I was pretty happy with the contrast on the crow's body. I couldn't get photos like this with my compact (at least not with any regularity).

And some dice:

There are a few more in my Flickr. :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Oops...I started looking at lens rentals. I can get a 70-300mm (insured), tripod (insured), and remote shutter for a week for $109 (including shipping!). They have the macro lenses I want to check out too. Definitely something to think about...

While I was in Seattle, I picked up a new toy and got to test it out a bit. Nikon Speedlight SB-600 + Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible Diffuser. I never really liked taking pics of people so I didn't bother getting a flash right away. It was super cheap there compared to here and lower taxes so why not?

I don't know...cf00 might just be really busy.

My camera is going to be pretty busy this weekend, with the navy centennial stuff. I've already been out to see the aircraft carrier, but that's only one of 21 ships that will be taking part in the International Fleet Review this weekend. I just wish I had a better zoom lens (70-300mm VR would be awesome) for the event.

The 70-300 is a very good lens. Even though it's not one of nikons pro lenses it take extremely good pictures is very sharp and is probably nikons best value for money lens. I have it and the 70-200VRII.

Yeah I've read a LOT of great things about the 70-300VR. I think that's the next lens I want, followed by a macro (looking at the VR primes) and a wide-angle zoom. Somewhere in there I need a tripod & ballhead too. I think I'll just be telling my parents to contribute to my camera fund for my birthday this year.

I have the 70-300mm Nikon lens. For the price its an amazing lens. I just dont like that the minimum focus distance is like 1.5 meters... but the lens is for something far away, but sometimes theres something thats close so I have to change my lens. But I would recommend it!

Uh oh someones getting the bug! It's an expensive one. I had to promise the wife "no more lenses" for 6 months.

I don't have the 105vr and that's the next one I want to get. I have the 60 mm macro and it actually a great lens that I think is under rated. It not so good for bugs and little animals etc but for close up portrait stuff or close up elements of design it's fantastic.
