Heres another angle....hockey is a business...the Canucks want another home game because , not only is it about pride, but its over a million dollars in revenue...the farther they go in the playoffs, the more the owners make...its huge money !

no speculation...no opinion....just crunching the numbers...because its the way you measure performance. NHL goaltending awards are given out based on a goaltenders numbers !! Lou will not win one this year because he did not perform as well as the winner !! He played enough games...just not consistant enough..ie October

Twice he had contract trouble with Florida

" Set to become a free agent for the second consecutive off-season, he could not come to an agreement with the Panthers, having formally turned down a five-year, $30 million contract offer in January 2006.[52] It was also reported that among Luongo's demands were that backup goaltender Jamie McLennan be re-signed, his long-time goaltending coach François Allaire be hired[53] and that a public statement be released that he would not be traded until the no-trade clause of his contract took effect.[54]

With Islanders,

"Although the Islanders planned to have Luongo play in the NHL for the 1998–99 season, an inconsistent performance at training camp led to Luongo's return to the QMJHL that season.[12] Due to having failed to come to terms on a contract before October 1, 1998, Luongo was not allowed to be called up to the Islanders from junior over the course of the subsequent season".

With us the Luongo contract negotiations went on much longer than they thought and put us in a bind and led to a 64 million dollar albatross because if Canucks didn;t meet HIS deadline he wasn't going to sign until the end of the 2009-2010 season and would have been a UFA a couple months after the season.

From TSN

Luongo had originally set a deadline of Sept. 13 to complete the deal, after which time he did not want the mid-season distraction of negotiating a new contract. The 30-year old Canucks captain is entering the final year of a four-year, $27 million contract. He will make $7.5-million for the 2009-10 season, and now forgoes a chance to explore the free agency market next summer.

If we start Luongo, we are saying he is number 1 and we just started Cory to try and jump start the team. If we start Cory, we are saying he is now our guy and Luongo could be gone which would be fine with me.

one of the arguments for starting Lu is that he should go down with the ship. It's his to go down with... but that decision assumes LOSING. Therefor select Cory as that was the stronger overall game by the team.

Not sure why so many people care who is in goal when both goalies are perfectly capable. A thread like this is just a total waste of time IMO.. 6 pages of banter about pointlessness.

Its obvious goaltending is not the problem yet people still have some idea that the team plays better in front of one goalie or another. Honestly, whatever.. the problem is with defence and scoring and in some ways coaching. We've all watched, we've all seen it, and we all know it. Goaltending has been the one thing that's been our saving grace this series if there was one.

Put John Garret in goal for us for all I care.. so for unless our goaltenders would have kept it to under a goal, we'd still be barely winning and closer to losing anyway. And Shnieder did just that, kept it at only a goal and we still lost.

How bout we stop focusing on our goalies and focus on the real issue with this team hm?
