METRO VANCOUVER - One man is dead after a shooting in the parking lot of a Maple Ridge mall Monday night.

Police and paramedics were called to Haney Place Mall at 11895 226 St. around 8 p.m. The victim was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to RCMP Staff Sgt. Konrad Golbeck.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in to take over the investigation, and few details were available Monday night.

Golbeck said it was too early to say whether the shooting was gang-related, and no arrests have been made.

"There are some persons that were spoken to at the scene but it’s unknown what their relationship is to the investigation at this time," he added.

Police have not released any information about the victim, or a description of any suspects.

It's the second fatal shooting at a mall in Metro Vancouver in a week.

Last Wednesday, 28-year-old Craig Widdifield was gunned down in a brazen public shooting at the Morgan Crossing shopping mall in south Surrey

IHIT is also investigating that case, and authorities say the shooting was a targeted, gang-related hit.
