The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly speaking to John Tortorella about their head coaching vacancy.

RDS is reporting that the former New York Rangers bench boss is one of the strong candidates to replace the fired Alain Vigneault.

In recent weeks, the Canucks showed interest in Dallas Eakins; whom they interviewed twice before he was hired by the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

Tortorella was dismissed from the Rangers on May 30 following New York's second-round loss to the Boston Bruins. In 319 regular-season games with New York, Tortorella went 171-118-1-29. He was 19-25 in the post-season and reached the playoffs in four of five seasons after taking over as coach in February 2009.

For their part, the Rangers are believed to have spoken to Vigneault about their head coaching job.

Canucks general manager Mike Gillis told the TEAM 1040 in Vancouver on Friday that the team was still going to interview "four or five more" candidates for their head coaching job. He suggested that they wanted to have a new bench boss in place before the free agency period opens on July 5.
