North and South Korea exchange artillery

All of what you are saying are realities. Though if they both sit back and look at the big picture, they will realize how silly they are and at the very least stop acting like they are puppets to foreign powers, whom have very little interest in them beyond buffering themselves from unwanted ideologies.

Well.... South Korea isn't really a puppet of the USA like during the 50's and 60's. They're one of the most vibrant economy in the world.

The North on the other hand is like the crazy little kid with a little Swiss army threatening everyone but only able to get away with it because they have big bro China in their corner.

As unpopular as it is, the US needs to "threaten" North Korea to get results. Using phrases like "equal response" or whatever is weak. Any aggression towards the South should result in Pyongyang ending up like the world's largest parking lot.
