-Vintage Canuck-
Sharks Sign Braun to Five-Year Extension: SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed defenseman Justin Braun to a five-year contract extension. The extension, which will commence next season, places Braun under contract with the Sharks through the 2019-20 season. "Justin has emerged as one of our most well-rounded and dependable defensemen," said Wilson. "He's an excellent skater who excels in matching up against the opponents top players on a nightly basis and fits in well with our core group of younger players. We feel Justin has just scratched the surface of his talent and we are excited to have him under contract for the next six seasons." Last season, Braun was second on the team in average time on ice per game (20:59), tied-for-first in shorthanded ice time per game (2:11) and set career-highs for points (17), goals (4) and assists (13). He was one of four Sharks to play in all 82 games in 2014-15. In addition, he tied a franchise record with eight blocked shots on Nov. 29 vs. St. Louis. Braun also added two points (one goal, one assist) in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games. In 217 regular season NHL games, all with San Jose, he has posted 46 points (eight goals, 38 assists) and 51 penalty minutes. He has added three points (one goal, two assists) and 22 penalty minutes in 24 Stanley Cup Playoff contests. The native of Minneapolis, MN, represented the United States at the 2012 World Championships. Braun was originally selected by San Jose in the seventh round (201st overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. http://sharks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=730781&navid=TW
