[proposal] DET-TO

Bure.10

Recommended Posts

To DET:

Kessel, 3rd 2015

To TO:

Anthony Mantha, Teemu Pulkkinen, 2015 1st and Stephen Weiss (cap dump)

Red wings top 9:

Nyquist-Zetterberg-Kessel

Tatar-Datsyuk-Franzen (when/if healthy)

Jurco-Sheahan-Abdelkader

This would also give the leafs 3 1st round picks this year (their own, Nashville, Detroit)

Why not? Detroit's two best players, Zetterberg and Datsyuk, aren't getting any younger. Their best chance to win another cup with them is now. I think they would roll the dice

1. Overpayment. Giving up your 2 of your best prospects and a 1st rd pick in a strong draft year is ludicrous. Detroit hardly trades it's prospects. Also Mantha at 6'5 is a goal scoring machine. Very rare.

2. Cap hit. Kessel comes in at a pricey 8 mill cap hit. He's not worth that much.

3. Fit. Babcock likes guys that play hard on both end of the rink. Kessel is completely a scorer. Defensive liability.

You make good points. Maybe take out Pulkkinen and go with Mantha and 1st. It's going to be a late 1st anyway. Kessel is atleast worth that much.

As for the cap hit, don't forget Weiss would be going the other way. That's a $4.9M cap hit coming off the wings' books. Weiss has 3 years left after this year and kessel has 4.

As for your third point, I think Babcock can change that.

Yeah Kessels worth a 1st and a top prospect but Detroit isn't the type of team to make that move.

Kessel has 7 more years 8 mill. That's harsh!
