Lacey Spears: Mum who killed son by poisoning him with salt in "bizarre bid for attention" jailed 18:36, 8 April 2015 By Sam Webb Lacey Spears blogged about her son Garnett's poor health for years - but it emerged the 27-year-old force fed the boy massive amounts of salt through a tube in his stomach A mum who killed her son by poisoning him with salt in a "bizarre bid for attention" has been jailed for 20 years. Lacey Spears blogged about her son Garnett's poor health for years. But it emerged the 27-year-old force fed the boy massive amounts of salt through a tube in his stomach. Spears, from Chestnut Ridge, New York, wrote on a personal blog called "Garnett's Journey" and other social media about her son's "mystery illness" as his health slowly declined. The sentence was less than the maximum penalty of 25 years to life requested by the prosecution. It's not often that words fail me but now is one of those times.
