Clifford is a rental UFA he brings that nasty.  He's a poor mans Ferland in that he can play with skilled players or line up in a pure checking role for us. Kings should be looking early and often to unload vets for picks. I don't think they will be doing much better than what I have presented a replacement NHL player and a 3rd round pick for a rental of Cliffords ilk. Schaller opens up a spot on our roster and fills a hole on theirs and fits Clifford under the cap for us (we'd probably still want to send Gaudette down to play with Baertschi and Goldobin).

Pearson Bo Leivo - There are 3-4 guys chomping at the bit to take Leivo's spot here healthy competition.

Ferland Sutter Virtanen- I wouldn't want to be a puck carrier playing against this bottom 6

Roussel Beagle Clifford

Depth:

Bae Gaud Goldy- This could be and NHL 3rd line having them dominate utica together and gaining chem could pay huge dividends 

Motte Graovac Loui

Boucher ZacMac Bailey

 

 

I think with how Green wants to run this team a move like this makes sense.

Don't get me wrong - I would definitely rather have Clifford over Schaller!

 

However, I don't feel like it is worth paying a 3rd rounder for that swap.

 

The main reason is that Clifford is on the final year of his contract, so we are spending that just to have him here for this season (a rental UFA - which you did mention).

 

I think I would rather keep the pick and keep Gaudette in the NHL.

 

I would do a 5th rounder + Schaller for Clifford.

I might pay a 5th rounder to dump Schaller's 1.9m alone.

 

As for Gaudette I feel like he would benefit more from playing on a scoring line in the AHL more than logging few minutes playing on a checking line in the NHL.
