 7 years of pro or 27 years of age. Whichever comes first. Unsigned college players can however force UFA after 4 years but that rarely happens.

So if we get bedard at 27 yo, we will probably have him till retirement. Bedard is/will be the same size and Crosby. Crosby is 35 and not talking retirement. If Bedard plays till he's 37, that gives us 10 years
