  1. Wow. Not that surprising when you consider the odds of those mid to late round draft picks actually panning out, but a draft like that will come back to haunt you for sure.
  2. Yikes. That's the first I've heard of this. It's actually unusual how you don't hear about more players testing positive for coke. Maybe they don't really go after guys for it? You know they test for it though and the numbers can't be pretty. Edit: Throw a handful of pain killers and sleeping pills in while you're at it.
  3. This. I haven't caught any Comets games this year. Can anyone speak to his defensive side of the game? The scoring is nice, especially in his 1st year pro. But seeing Pouliot at the top, coupled with Rafferty's age, I'm cautiously optimistic. Love Stetcher and his dedication to the team but that's a trade you have to make. Adds some much needed speed and another top 6 option. I don't think Stetcher alone gets it done though.
  4. The new TV deal will be signed by then as well, so you have to think the cap will go up by $5M, maybe more in the next few years.
  5. If Quinn can't get it done, I hear Tanya Harding is looking for work.
  6. I mean, when you win an MVP award, that's as close to carte blanche as it gets in my books. Hischier isn't even 21 yet. Jack Hughes is still 18! They'll be fine.
  7. Well that's not good news. I would imagine Edler will be out until after the Christmas break at this point, especially if it's a back injury.
  8. I definitely wouldn't trade our 2nd round pick for Barrie. We're already down our 1st rounder this year (most likely). Stetcher and Goldobin, sure. But Benning needs to hang onto those draft picks. With the coaching change in TO, I don't see a Barrie trade happening any time soon. My guess is that Keefe will want to get a good look at Barrie.
  9. Lowkey post of that day. +1 Tanev is a leader on this team. Name another guy in that dressing room that has the respect of his teammates like Tanev. Don't worry, I'll wait....the broken bones, missing teeth, this guy bleeds blue and green, it's all he knows. He's the most humble, team first guy. Reminds me a lot of Burrows. No way we trade him for Barrie and that's not on some homer $#!+. Like you said, the proof is in the pudding. Just ask Mike Babcock.
  10. Fair enough. Are you also going to make me google if the substance abuse/behavioural health program is now defunct or can we just hire you as head of CDC HR now
  11. Part of me wonders what Ferland is going to be like if he returns. Would he even drop the gloves again? A big part of the value he provides is just by being present and other guys knowing they'll have to answer to him. Has the dog lost his bite? I hope not, although I would totally understand. Concussions are no joke.
  12. It's been 24 hours since I tuned into this thread and I'm wondering if you've even taken a break Heff
  13. People saying they wouldn't trade Troy, I get it. He's a fan favorite. But in Green's eyes, he doesn't play the PP and he rarely kills penalties, so he's expendable. Barrie would instantly be one of our best PP options from the backend. I don't think Stetcher alone gets it done though. Barrie is off to a rough start but he's one of the top producing defensemen over the last 5 years and is still only 28. So he holds a decent amount of value around the league IMO.
  14. If we didn't have Gaudette to fill in for Sutter I would put in a claim.
  15. Breaking News: Loui Eriksson has retired. In other related news: Canucks ownership has announced a 3 year $18M contract with Loui Eriksson as professional locker room fist bumper. The club has also announced the creation of a Little Things department, which Loui will head. When asked if this department had anything to do with hockey operations, Aquilini was quoted as saying "No comment". More to follow.
  16. I look at Leivo as a slightly less skilled, but bigger, more well rounded and durable version of Sven Baertschi. There's almost always a spot on an NHL club for a guy like that. Even after today's loss, he's still on pace for 36 points. As ugly as it sounds, he's one of the best bottom 6 players we've had over the last couple years and can fill in on the 2nd line in a pinch. 35 points isn't out of the realm of possibility if he stays healthy IMO
  17. You do realize every player in NHL history has had a "1st team that played them in significant games", right? Leivo is a depth piece that makes $1.5M on a 1 year deal. What do you expect out of him? He's on pace for what, 35 points?
  18. What's more likely to happen by year 6 of his contract? A - He regains his scoring touch B - Fans learn how to spell his name correctly
  19. Yup. We all remember that series against LA where he was a human wrecking ball. We remember that 50 (49?) point season he had. But Edler didn't turn out to be the player many of us Canucks fans thought he would...and that's ok. When Tanev first became the Tanev we know, there was a constant debate on CDC who was better. At the time, I was a pretty vocal supporter of Tanev. This was before all the injuries. Before we really knew his offensive ceiling. But give Edler credit. It seems like he's caught a 2nd wind in his NHL career and has regained the right to be called the Canucks best defenseman. Maybe it wasn't even in doubt in the first place? But Edler seems to have adapted to the league, regained some confidence and there's no doubting his value to us. Right? Edler on the point on your 2nd PP is a luxury. Who did we have on our 2nd unit a few years ago? Matt Bartowski? Are we watching the same games? Edler is anything but low IQ. All players are prone to mistakes. But the Edler of today is miles ahead of the Eddie 3 years ago. He has seriously limited the old classic brain cramps. I know one timers look dope on your XBOX but not everyone is Ovechkin. Get bodies to the net, get your shot through the crowd. Rinse and repeat. Did you watch the game last night? Check out Quinn's goal.
  20. If Ian Clark was our goalie coach and I traded places with Newell Brown, THAT would be a wash. No idea what they paid Clark but he's worth 7 figures if you ask me.
  21. Every NHL team does it. We probably did it more than normal because we weren't exactly a top skating team in the past. I haven't checked the stats but I'd wager a guess that McDavid doesn't do a lot of drop passes on the PP! With Quinn in the mix, there's more options for breakouts. Edler is a lot of things but powerful skater is not one. He relies more on his hockey IQ and size than his skating ability (can you think of a time he ever tried to go end to end? Ever?).
