b3.
All prospect threads have been reserved guys, same system as last year. I wouldn't waste your time.
Gnickers87
Prospect reminds of Rinne With comparisons to Pekka Rinne, David Honzik wants to prove he can play at the next level. It didn't take long for scouts to find the correlation. Pekka Rinne was busy pulling rabbits out of hats in the National Hockey League playoffs, carrying a young, overachieving team in an unlikely run to the second round. A few weeks earlier, a young, Czech goaltender revealed those same rabbits by carrying his junior team in an unlikely first-round upset. David Honzik, a 17-year-old rookie, was simply every bit as special during the Victoriaville Tigres' run as Rinne had been with the Predators. read more at http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/juniors/2011/06/23/king_hoznik_feature/

ballsdeepfreeze
Can you say, USELESS PICK?! I guess this goes to show we CAN'T successfully trade down like Detroit, and make use of multiple picks

Gnickers87
The Goalie Guild - Beautiful choice by VAN to take my sleeper David Honzik. Was excited to see where he would go. Knew he would go fairly high. Great pick. David Honzik never had a goalie coach before this season. Stronger second half, posted second highest save percentage in QMJHL playoffs. http://twitter.com/#!/TheGoalieGuild

Gnickers87
To those that will complain that we took a goalie... If all goes well with Honzik, he will be ready in 6 or 7 years for the NHL, our goalie situation could be anywhere at that point.
Gnickers87
Red Line Report had him as the 2nd best goalie behind Gibson http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/columnist/woodlief/2011-06-20-red-line-report-nhl-draft-goaltending-prospects_n.htm Next up is huge Czech David Honzik, who took a while to adapt to the North American playing style with Victoriaville in the Quebec League. Come playoff time, though, he was a force who stole a few games and nearly a series against the eventual Memorial Cup champion Saint John Sea Dogs. He finally began to trust his superior athletic gifts and allow his natural instincts and competitiveness to take over.
b3.
We needed another goaltending prospect anyways, he sounds like a pretty solid pick. We have some solid goaltenders behind Luongo and Schneider now, Lack, Cannata, and now Honzik.

avelanch
It’s not hard to see why David Honzig is attracting so much attention from scouts heading into the 2011 NHL Draft this month, as the 6-foot-3, 194-pound goaltender has tremendous size to go with an abundance of raw talent. The Czech netminder went 20-12-1 this season in 36 games for the QMJHL’s Victoriaville Tigres, and posted a 3.54 goals against average, .884 save percentage and one shutout. Those totals put the rookie among the top 20 goalies in the league, and solidified his status as a highly touted prospect. Honzig was very solid between the pipes for the Tigres in the playoffs as well, going 5-3-1 in 9 games, with a 3.28 GAA, and incredible .919 save percentage. Along with having good size, the 17-year-old is technically and positionally sound, has a quick glove hand, moves well for a big guy, reads and anticipates the play very good, works very hard at perfecting his game, and won’t give up on a puck. He reminds me a little of a young Roman Turek in size and ability, and has some real potential to be a stellar pro. Last season, Honzik suited up for HC Karlovy Vary U18 squad, going 24-10-4 in 38 games, with a 2.62 GAA, and .906 save percentage. He also represented the Czech Republic at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
The Kassassin Train
Compared to Rinne, fits Melanson goalie style by playing deep in his goal. This just sets us up for success in the future when we're ready to trade Schneider. Face it, Schneider will never play as a Starter in Vancouver. Luongo, Schneider (all but gone), Lack, Cannata, Honzik, Weimen. NHL has him at 6'3" now.
