Does the HHOF keep track of which team the inductees are inducted as a member?

If so, did Bure get inducted as a Canuck?

retire #96.
That was the last number he wore here.

He actually switched back to #10 before the start of the 1997-98 season. #96 was bad luck for him, as he sustained multiple injuries whilst wearing it. He wore #10 for five of his seven years in Vancouver, and played a full season with the Canucks after switching back to it.

Posted Image

He then continued to wear #10 when he joined the Florida Panthers.

Posted Image

When he laced up his skates for the first time in seven years this past February, he wore #10.

Posted Image

#10 is Pavel's number, and always will be. While he has also worn #12, #96, and #9, no number is identified as much with Bure as #10.

Posted Image

In fact, he inspired an entire generation of hockey fans, some of whom have subsequently worn his #10 in honor of him.

Ring of Honour, but not retired

I don't think Bure deserves to be with true Canucks like Linden or Smyl.
Hell, I don't think Naslund should even be up there.

But I guess Bure deseves to be in the hall of fame of the greatest hockey players...The guy is going into the freakin HOCKEY HALL OF FAME!! Unlike Linden and Smyl, Bure will be the first Canucks in the hall and his number doesn't deserve to be retired?! wow

This is obvious, the very first Canucks Jersey to go in the hall of fame should be retired. The display case shows more than one jersey but the main one should be the first Canuck's jersey. #10 or #96

Honestly, I don't think Bure deserves a retired number. Retired numbers are for player you'd feel weird to have some 4th line rookie playing for us in the season wearing that number.

Now that he's inducted in the HOF, the next step is retire his damn number.. It's a shame that the best player to ever play for this Franchise doesnt have his number up in the rafters.

I think they should retire 96. (Still honours the player without taking a popular # out of circulation)
Great player and now a member of HHOF. Should be a no brainer imo

#10 should be in the rafters. I have always said this and Pavel's induction to HHOF makes the Canucks look silly.

It is high time bridges were built and Pavel brought back into the fold.

Perhaps one day we will have a player who is more exciting to watch and has better talent than Bure....but I doubt it.

He wouldn't show up to be embarrassed at the R O H ceremony. Only Canuck in the hall but not good enough for the rafters???? Only Canuck on talent alone who deserves to have their # retired. (Sedins may change that)

Canuck drafted. Most exciting player in Canucks uniform. Best raw talent player in Canucks history. Goes on for multiple scoring titles. Possible Hall of Famer? Yeah... Put #10 up there. If he's good enough for the game of hockey in general to honour, our lowly franchise should, too...

I didn't think this until recently, though, so I'm not a Bure fanboy or anything.

I couldn't agree more with this. His jersey should definitely be retired here in Vancouver.

Although Bure (arguably one of the best Canucks players of all time), his number should not be honored by the Canucks organization.

That would be a huge insult to Bure and his family to only honour him after he gets recognized be HHOF. It was a mistake by the Canucks organization not to raise his number to the rafters before his induction to the HHOF.

It's like, "oh hey you want to recognize me as part of your organization now just cause i got in the HHOF despite hating on me all these years for what i've done?"

Hall of famer as a Canuck. He very well should have his jersey retired here. Cheers.

TOML

agree'd

i dont know when i will see another player that could bring you out of your seat like bure did on the canucks

jersey should be retired , anything less is an insult and thats probably how he feels considering they probably already presented the ring of honour idea to him and he turned it down

You could make the same argument for Patrick Roy, however. Roy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006, but did not have his jersey retired by the Montreal Canadiens until 2008. He also left on bad terms with that franchise.

Nearly everybody in Montreal is glad now that Roy's number has been retired. Hopefully, Bure's number can be retired soon. His induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame only gives more reason for the Canucks to pay tribute to his contribution to this franchise.

How many former Canucks are in the HHOF? Sundin doesn't even count, since he only played here for half a year. Yes, Bure's jersey belongs in the rafters. He was by far, the most exciting Canuck to watch on the ice, bar none.

That's true but like you said, Roy's number got retired couple years later. If the Canucks were to announce retiring Bure's number, that would clearly show it being a kneejerk reaction due to Bure being inducted into the HHOF. And it makes it even worse considering that Bure and the Canucks organization have not even been keeping close ties.

Would love to see Bure's number get retired but preferrably at least a year later to show that they are fully honouring him due to his play with the Canucks rather than taking into account that he was praised in a higher organization which ultimately lead to the decision of the canucks praising him as well.

Have to admit though, it seems odd that Pavel Bure is not up there. I think he was the best player the Vancouver franchise ever had, arguably the best player in the world for at least 2 or 3 years.

Pavel should be up there.

Should be in the ROH but he won't be. And I don't think #10 should be retired.

Pavel Bure will always be remembered as a Canuck but I just don't think the team is interested in any sort of association with him at all. Minutes after the HHOF inductions were announced, the Florida Panthers send out a series of congratulatory tweets to Pavel:

Florida Panthers@FlaPanthers

No comment yet from the Canucks

I agree with you. ROH would be fine with me but I highly doubt that will occur. The relationship between Bure and the organization didn't exactly end well.

Reitred, without him our Franchise could have potentially folded.

Pat Quinn just made a great point on the team 1040, and he was talking about how our team coming out of the late 80's were really struggling/both on the ice and as a franchise, only drawing 7'000 people on average.

That young group of Linden, McLean, Adams and others really pulled this franchise from the brink and Bure was the biggest piece of them all, he gave us that big star and put us on the map.

It's possible that our franchise wouldn't be where it is without him, we could have turned out to be like Winnipeg and ended up losing our team halfway through the 90's without Pavel.

His Number should be up in the rafters.

Bure as a Canuck in comparison to Messier as a Canuck are two completely different animals.
