L'Orange
Gragnani was a wild card that Gillis talked up in lawyer like fashion but proved to be multiples less than what Gillis promised. Rome is gone.To me it is like losing a wild card.Plays bottom pairing, strikes fear deep.Similar to the Torres loss. Knock Sami if you want.Nobody has replaced him.Garrison is younger and bigger, but not a physical force like Rome and does not have the offensive abilities of Salo. Lost two -gained one. Without Hamhuis Bieksa is a three ,four d man. Tanev is not going to hurt anyone and Alberts is not talented enough to play top six. Ballard has to be relied upon and used effectively. K Con is a disaster defensively and his skating ability is suspect. Sauve was almost NHL ready before his accident and concussion.Let's hope he has healed sufficiently to become depth at the NHL leve.
Hugemanskost
That's rich. Really. He lays out Nathan Horton and he's a physical force. Wow. If he'd taken out Chara or Lucic, maybe I'd agree with you. Edler, Bieksa, Ballard, and Hamhuis flaunt more physicality than Rome.

L'Orange
Bieksa and Eddy were kind of MIA down the stretch, not to mention the issue of salary vs Rome. Rome had a 750k cap hit.Bieksa is swimming in champagne and Eddy will be shortly. A shot in the dark says Bieksa is not seven times the physical d man that Aaron is. Red Light Racicot
Imo we still have an Ehrhoff-sized gap to fill on defense. I dont think this group can move the puck well enough, and I certainly dont think they intimidate anyone. The powerplay aint what it used to be. Thats where Weber comes in (I wish)
