To Van- Patrick Marleau, Jason Demers

To SJ- Roberto Luongo, Mason Raymond

Van gets a top 6 winger with great playmaking ability to play with Kesler + Booth or RW with the Sedins, and a desperately needed right side D who can play in our top 6.

SJ gets the elite goalie that they've really never had. Also they get Raymond who's having a good year and could play in their top 6. They are very deep on D so they can deal with the loss of Demers. Trade Niemi for a FW that can together with Raymond compensate for loss of Marleau.

Thoughts?

San Jose would be unstoppable if they did this deal.

San Jose's not trading Marleau, especially if he has been the mainstay of the team. Also, their goaltending has been quite good, so I don't see why they would try and acquire Luongo.

You think so? Marleau would be a big loss in there top 6 they'd probably go

Clowe-Thornton-Pavelski
Raymond-Couture-Havlat

Burns
Boyle
Vlasic
Stuart
Murray
Braun

Lu

we'd have

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Marleau-Kesler-Booth
Higgins-Schroeder-Hansen
Volpatti-Lappy-Kassian

Edler
Hamhuis
Garrison
Bieksa
Ballard
Demers

Schneider

Surely the leading Vezina trophy candidate is a massive upgrade on Antii Niemi?

My wish list would start with Clowe and end with Boyle. Crash n bang winger and a RH defender.

Clowe-Kesler-Higgins

Edler-Boyle

I'd do Weise for Demers.

San Jose needs forward depth and Weise is underrated defensively. We need right-handed defenseman (and San Jose has a glut of defensemen, Demers a healthy scratch regularly).

Your not getting a young top 6 D with potential for a career AHL'er with 5 NHL goals.

We would be idiots to trade MayRay + Luongo for that. Luongo alone is worth that and Raymond is a top notch winger that has a tiny salary cap. Dollars for Doughnuts Raymond is one of the best valued players in the league. Of course Marleau is an amazing player who is worth more then Raymond, but not so much as to justify throwing in Lu. Maybe a Raymond + Schroeder + Luongo for Marleau + Clowe + Picks or Demers (personally don't think Demers is a good fit here).

I would like to introduce you to Patrick Marleau, Sharks all time leading scorer and fan favourite. ; owner of 6 30 goal seasons in the last 7 years. And he had back to back 28 goal seasons prior to that. Plays centre / right wing, 220 lbs (gosh that sounds perfect) .

By my beer impacted addition, some 321 goals the last 10 years; I'm guessing that might be the most goals in the league in that span? In perspective, he would be our all time leader in points and goals ahead of Nazzy/Hank by a fair margin!

Plus he has more than double the goals of any Canuck this year, on track for 30 goals in a 48 game season. He;s playing great! Why on earth would San Jose trade Marleau, still just 33???

And who here wonders why we would get so little for Lou?

You realize that Marleau is San Jose's Linden right? You also realize that Niemi is 7-4 with a 1.96 goals against average and a .931 save percentage right? Oh, and his name on the Stanley Cup. Why would San Jose ever do this trade? If the Canucks wanted Marleau it wouldn't be for anything less than Kesler, Edler, and a prospect or a pick, that's what it takes to get a fan favorite and team captain.

So a Vezina candidate and 20 goal scorer(shortened season) doesn't do it? Btw Kesler + Edler would be massive overpayment for Marleau.

Two things:
1) To San Jose that is not overpayment for the most popular and productive player in the history of their franchise. He's unquestionably the fan favorite. There's really no player on the Canucks that is equal in status as Marleau is on the Sharks, so Linden is the best example, and Linden was not as skilled as Marleau. Even though Keenan was desperate to get Linden off the team, it still took Bertuzzi, McCabe, and a pick to send him to the Islanders. It would take more than that to get Marleau from the Sharks.
2) Luongo is not a Vezina candidate after 8 games. Corey Crawford and Craig Anderson are the frontrunners there. And yeah, they're both injured right now, but even so they both have more games played and more wins than Luongo with a very similar GAA and save%. Niemi has more wins than Luongo. Find me one hockey analyst who calls Luongo a frontrunner for the Vezina and I'll quit this board. No fooling.

No they wouldn't. Not at all. Their goaltending is fine, they just have trouble scoring. I don't think Mason Raymond can solve that problem.

If Corey Crawford is a Vezina candidate, then Ray Emery surely is too.

Pekka Rinne and Craig Anderson are surely the frontrunners. Not a chance that Luongo is even a thought.
