Kack Zassian
Gretzky was sold for a 1/3 of that. Does Wang and the Isles have an extra $40mil kicking around. A good trade package and paying off that contract may be worth it. Tavares, Nabokov (ufa), Visnosky/Streit (ufa), Dipietro (buyout) for Schneider, Ballard, Booth, Shroeder, 1st, 2nd IMO if money is still an issue in NYI, the Isles would take it. Aqulini would be the one with an issue.

sampy
Better trade: Take out all the garbage: Ryan Kesler + Cory Schneider for John Tavares + Rick Dipietro
Kack Zassian
Value is fair without Dipieteo, but I think you are underestimating the $40 mil owing. That is more $$$ than the entire 2013 NYI roster.

Kack Zassian
Still no way they do that trade, Tavares gets better each year and is already a top 10 player in the league, Kesler barely even plays anymore, and Schneider isn't going to take the Islanders anywhere. canuckfan85
That package gets you Hamonic and Okposo. Throw in Kesler and 2 more firsts and they consider Tavares.

The Kessing Booth line
But if he was NYI would want Schneider + Edler + Kesler for him.
Kack Zassian
ok , now that is funny- clearly you do not know the value of Hamonic and Okposo- of Gillis did that package for those 2 players, he would absolutely be fired and never hired again. Hamonic and Okoposo for schneider ballard 2013, 2014 1st and 2nds--- rip offf, you should be banned for this type of post Its More like Schneider+ Ballard + Booth + 2013, 2014 1st for Tavares and Matt Martin If I were Gillis, I would actually think about this, considering we are a veteran team with a "window" and Jensen and Kassian could grow with Tavares
sampy
That doesn't make Tavares any more or any less available. Maybe if you were trading for a guy like Nino, or Okposo... wouldn't have any impact on a Tavares deal. Period.
Gross-Misconduct
No way the Islanders are making that deal. But dangling Schneider in the mix to get Tavares would be a good play to get the conversation started. Nabokov's best days are behind him. And Dipietro is....well, Dipietro. Kack Zassian
You think Nino or Okposo is worth $40mil cash. I doubt Aqulini would pay a quarter of that. I doubt Aquilini would pay $40 mil cash for Tavares. At the end of the day, $40 mil is a rediculous amount of money, especially to a poor team like NYI. Kack Zassian
Says the guy who proposed a young rising star goalie for a 6.6 million dollar .5 pt a game(this season) 2nd line centre. Especially when the cap is going down. Even if he's not availible at least his trade proposal would be a good idea if he was. If your going to call someone's trade proposal "stupid", do it when you haven't just made one that is a bad idea for your own team.
thad
If a trade proposal involves Crosby, Giroux, Stamkos, Tavares, Datsyuk, Malkin, Karlsson etc... I think you can pretty much write it off as stupid.
Kack Zassian
That wasn't my point but just for the sake of argument, do general managers ever make extremely stupid decisions? I'll even answer that for ya. Yes, all the time and especially the islanders. Very rarely of that magnitude but it does happen.
thad
I just don't think Rick Dipietros contract has any impact on the availability/overall value on John Tavares.
Kack Zassian
Huh? I think your confusing me with someone else... Originally all I did was point out the irony of someone calling this proposal stupid when they just made one that would trade Schneider for an overpaid stastny.. Then you said a proposal involving any of the best players in the league is stupid.. I agreed but pointed out that general managers make really stupid decisions all the time. Your losing me with the dipietro part?
thad
Sorry, confused you with the OP. His idea is, by acquiring John Tavares AND Rick Dipietro it makes John Tavares more available, and the asking price is less because NY is desperate to get rid of the contract.
