Van-Wpg (proposal)

Recommended Posts

Why wouldn't Winnipeg do this? It clearly fits their needs, right? Their 2nd line winger that has yet to play more than 2 minutes this season, due to injury, so obviously they'll throw in the towel on him. Then, they'll get rid of arguably their best defensive d-man and shot blocker in Stuart.

And what do they get in return? A third liner and an overpaid 4th liner and a prospect that won't crack their lineup. What's not to like?

Well Kesler got Bonino a first and Sbisa.

In all fairness, they get a young 3rd liner with a ton of potential to be a force in the top 6 in the future. Hansen only gets paid 2.5 million and he's a 4th liner than can move up the lineup when need be. They also get an excellent young goalie with lots of potential as well, and on top of that they get a 2nd rounder in a deep draft. They might still not do it because their GM is frugal as a mofo but it's not nearly as lopsided a proposal as you're implying. In all honesty I don't think the Canucks would do it either because it handcuffs them cap wise for next year's FA market and secondly management might not be so keen on welcoming Kane and his issues into the locker room.

I think the problem is from the Canucks' point of view. Kane would have to become one heck of a player to make this worthwhile for Vancouver.

Firstly, what is the goal of this trade? Is it for the future, expecting that Kane is worth that much? Is it for present gain, to try to make the playoffs? Pretty clearly what comes back isn't nearly enough to make the Canucks a championship contender. It is enough to improve their chances of making the playoffs, but that's about all.

Giving up a 2nd round pick and 2 young forwards with potential, plus a depth forward, for another young forward with potential (though he may be a present upgrade) is in my view the wrong direction for this franchise to take.

If one looks at the deal long term-say in 2018-2019, it becomes Kane for Kassian, Lack, Jensen and a 2nd round pick. Ugh.
