  3. We did a good deal of Shakespeare in our class too. I was fortunate enough to be a part of a production the Drama Club made of "As You Like It"...it was some of the most fun I had in high school. I used to make a note of all the books that the school wouldn't allow to be covered in the curriculum...stuff like The Satanic Verses for example or Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury..and I made it a point to read every single one of them anyway. I did more reading of the best books...the most memorable novels..on my own because the schools were too chicken **** to cover them. 1984 was one of them.... It became my favorite novel of all time
  4. Gandhi - 10/10 One of THE most powerful and memorable biopics of all time. I was so psyched after seeing Sir Ben Kingsley in a comedic role in Iron Man 3 yesterday that I decided to watch my DVD copy of this film. Sir Richard Attenborough's timeless adaptation of the story of the man who shaped India...who was a British trained lawyer that forsook all worldly possessions to take up the cause of Indian independence through passive resistance...very nearly swept the Oscars in 1983...and it is VERY easy to see why. In my personal opinion, one of the greatest movies, in any genre...ever made.
  5. I think one thing is painfully obvious...people today don't read nearly as much as they should...because if they DID...maybe when these stories are having an attempt made at adaptation...they'd understand a: what they are paying their money to see....and b: why those of us who HAVE read the books..in some cases more than once (Gatsby is on my Top 20 list of favorite classic novels of all time) are a little bit perturbed when such seminal work is ruined by the antics of a glitz-hound like Baz Luhrmann.
  6. ^^ lol agreed F. Scott Fitzgerald rolling in his grave at the thought of his masterpiece ever being labeled as such. Not a chick flick by any means...a tale of scandal, one of American literature's most powerful characters...insightful yet sometimes demonizing views of the Roaring Twenties' nouveau riche. A chick flick it is not.
  7. That's a shame...nothing of value is assigned in high school anymore...no more Vonnegut, no more Fitzgerald..no more Orwell..except Animal Farm...screw that...they should make the kids read 1984...cause that's where times are headed.
  8. Spaced is on Netflix in the US not sure if it is elsewhere. It stars Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes, Katy Carmichael, Julia Deakin, Nick Frost and Mark Heap...and it was created by Pegg and Hynes. It's about a slacker artist (Pegg) and a brooding writer (Hynes) who meet in a cafe and decide to pose as a yuppie couple in order to move into a nice flat they both have their eyes on...it only ran a few seasons but it may be the funniest I've ever seen both Pegg and Frost.
  9. Out of my brain on the train

  10. Tony Stark in the comic books was always sardonic and biting with his humor. You went to see Iron Man..and since the movie was based on a comic book that was written to be humorous as well as exciting and entertaining you got exactly what you paid for. I just got back from seeing it and Mud as well. Iron Man 3: 8/10 More magic from the Marvel team. Jaw dropping visuals and a very pleasant surprise at least for me, as I hadn't seen preview one or read a review before seeing it...in the form of a humorous and endearing performance by the legendary British actor Sir Ben Kingsley as the "face" of Mandarin. Kingsley is a living legend and his character only deepened my enjoyment of this film. Downey Jr as clever and sharp as always..and Gwyneth Paltrow may very well be the most beautiful woman on this planet. Mud - 9.5/10. Easily the best movie I have seen all year...the suspense was seemingly neverending..and a standout performance by young Tye Sheridan very nearly stole the thunder from Matthew McConaughey's finest effort to date. This to me was the firm validation of a career. I will always remember McConaughey most as Wooderson in Dazed and Confused..but this movie was enough to make me take him seriously as a bonafide star.
  11. I find Simon Pegg absolutely hilarious...have you ever seen the comedy series he was in called Spaced?
  12. Lol not to mention Romance and Cigarettes...or the Life of David Gale...two big time stinkeroos.. Example: I find Mila Kunis incredibly attractive..maybe one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen...but when she makes a bad movie...she makes a bad movie..and the hot factor doesn't overwhelm that.

I heard that dude, buddy rolled into town the other night and it has been really hazy the last few days :D

  14. A guilty pleasure of mine, that movie...Hot Fuzz is so goddamned funny.... And for the record...It has absolutely nothing to do with different tastes in movies...The Great Gatsby was a masterwork...a seminal novel by a great American author, F. Scott Fitzgerald. Luhrmann completely..COMPLETELY ruined this story. I was very generous even giving it a 4. You know what you get when you polish a turd? You get a polished turd. Jay-Z is NOT King Oliver, he's not Duke Ellington...he's not Kid Ory, he's not Louis Armstrong or Jelly Roll Morton...and his wife is not Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald. Neither of them should have been involved with this film in any way shape or form. I'm not vocal about a lot of things when it comes to movies but I found very little to like about this one. And anyone who sees the film but hasn't read the book is missing the bloody point.
  15. Crashing hard here...I've been going full-throttle all day and it's nearly midnight now. I'll leave you with another of my favorites from Quadrophenia.
  16. Giving Slade their proper due. This was one of their major hits..and one that Dubrow didn't even try to steal.
  17. Metal Health may have been the only "popular" song by the Riot that they didn't steal from Slade.
  18. Dude you know what...come to think of it...I think Quiet Riot just unapologetically ripped Slade's ENTIRE sound off...they also "covered" a song called Mama Weer All Crazee Now...that was also a Slade original. Dubrow's vocal sounds almost exactly like Noddy Holder's.
  19. Nice...here's the original..done by a very underappreciated English power metal band...Slade. Dubrow was a prick, just for the record. lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLsw668PVyY
