  1. No offense or anything but your review is useless because you were unfamiliar with the novel that was being ruined by Luhrmann's usual over the top gaudy bull****. I'm thoroughly convinced this is one adaptation that should NEVER be attempted again. I'm digging your handle though...one of my favorite shows on TV and I've seen every episode at least five times. My favorite character is Dr Krieger.
  2. Mamas got a squeeze box she wears on her chest and when Daddy comes home he never gets no rest Cause she's playin' all night...and the music's all right...Mama's got a squeeze box, Daddy never sleeps at night

  7. I'm indebted, Olias. (I refuse to call you Twilight Sparkle) I had never heard that Oasis tune before...and it's a very hauntingly beautiful one...if you have any other deep cuts from them you'd like to share, PM me or post them here...I gained a new appreciation for that band with that song. Eminence Front holds a very special place in my list of Top Who songs...just for that same reason...it's much easier to don a facade or a mask to protect yourself from the real life horrors and judgmental looneys in this world...it's far more difficult to accept who you are, with all your faults..all your quirks..your inconsistencies..your flaws... Some of my favorite Who songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4BBQMjbX3c and Eminence Front..which was in the last post. The Who were the first classic rock band I ever took a great liking to. Not the Beatles or the Stones even though they were definitely more popular. Pete Townshend's lyrics just spoke to me in a way that no other band had up until that point..and Keith Moon was just a wild man...a loveable one..but a menace to that drum set..lol The Seeker is definitely my own theme song.
  8. Pete Peeters one of the best hockey names IMO
  9. I don't think you and I were watching the same movie. For the record I much preferred DiCaprio's performance in Django Unchained to this one. He was passable as Gatsby but he's nowhere near the Gatsby Redford was and Redford's wasn't all that great..and Bruce Dern was much more believable as Tom Buchanan than whoever the forgettable actor was who portrayed him in this adaptation.
  10. So..you gave an otherwise abysmal movie a 9 because of the music? Is that what I'm reading? Are you kidding me?

  13. Familiarity with the 1974 version starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow helped out quite a bit with that review. If I was a gambling man...I'd swear up and down Luhrmann simply copied that script....tried to serve two masters...both Fitzgerald and himself..with his gaudy, tacky glitz and overtly aesthetic style. With a story of scandal and spice such as The Great Gatsby and at least that Roaring Twenties setting..Luhrmann could have turned this into something memorable..for positive reasons. He tried to stay true to the book AND make his "own" movie..and he failed miserably at both, IMO. For example...a slight alteration in one of the movie's opening lines Luhrmann's Nick Carraway (played by Tobey Maguire): This was the opening from the original novel, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. "In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since. "Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had." In the movie..Maguire's character, Nick Carraway's line is much more generic.."always look for the good in people". From that point on it was difficult for me to accept this adaptation as anything more than I described in the previous post. This is now the fifth attempt at turning The Great Gatsby into a movie..and neither of them have been very good. It may just be that this novel is one of the ones that can never be successfully adapted for film.
  14. The Great Gatsby - 4/10 DiCaprio was the lone bright spot in this film. He played his part effectively...however the lead actress was not very believable in the role of Daisy..I will however admit a bit of bias as Mia Farrow is one of my favorite actresses of all time..I digress...the music was atrocious...the script I felt at times stayed way too true to the book, which left little to interpretation...and it was quite long...a bit too long for my liking. It was fairly entertaining when Gatsby was present on screen...when he wasn't...it became dull and once you strip away all the glitz that is Baz Luhrmann's style..this effort is nothing more to me but a Roaring Twenties soap opera. I'm not a Luhrmann fan either though...only got through a third of Moulin Rouge and even less of Romeo + Juliet
  15. Excellent choice. Here's my favorite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ituP5X7kP64
  16. and of course Chain Gang led to this...she's special...so special...
  17. I had the BIGGEST crush on Joan, Lita Ford, Samantha Fox, Chrissie Hynde, Pat Benatar...those chicks rocked...they had attitude...and smoldering sexuality about them. Hell man...they still do.
  18. Much too high I think. I only saw it as average...and Morgan Freeman's character was the only thing saving this film from getting under 5. Ending was predictable and it was sort of cheesy.
  19. lol. I seriously considered joining the Fruit Menagerie...for about an hour. haha. I should start the Soy product revolution. Killer Tofu has a nice ring to it. ;)

that it is...that it is...though I will confess I've never had horchata made with breast milk...unless you count milk from the udder of a cow...which is also technically breast milk...
