Tampa is about five years away from decline, fear monger much?
Nothing mentioned about Tampa except they’ll be picking with our lottery pick.

I will enjoy looking back on this thread in 18 months time.
So many people will be walking back their comments for good or ill
I’d like to see us look back in 2 years from now when Tampa is picking our lottery pick, we are not at the time in our franchise where playoffs aren’t a guarantee. If we were lets say the Penguins, the trade isn’t as bad. Playoffs are a coin flip and a 1st rounder for this team for a non superstar isn’t worth it.
I’d only trade a 1st in a trade where a top player is coming back in a bigger deal. JT Miller doesn’t qualify

That is hopelessly oversimplified.
Please identify these easy UFA targets.

Well let's look at JT Miller. He's had 22, 22, and 23 goals the last four years before his 13 goal season last year. I think that he'll be improving a bit more since he's 26.
At 5.25 million/year, he's on a fair deal. In fact, if you look at how much guys like Hayes (7 million) and Brock Nelson (6 million for 6 years) have gotten, you could argue that JT Miller is on a good deal.
He's not your Marleau or PK Subban type bad deal. So this was a hockey trade.
We will most likely be giving up a 20th overall pick here. 3rd pick is negligible and Mezanek going back to them is a bit of a plus on our side as we shed a contract.
I don't feel strongly either way with this trade. Could be a bust of a draft next year and we could be looking at a middling prospect being drafted by Vegas that never amounts to anything. Not thrilled about a 1st though.
I dont think there is any evidence that we will be a top 10 team in the league in the next 2 years. Evidence would tend to suggest we have more likelihood picking in the bottom 1-10 rather than 20-31. No evidence at all to suggest we are a playoff team. Most likely the pick will be 10-16

The POINT IS BABY BABBA, He was compared to Kelser and Dubinsky because of his style of play and physical edge. You then say he's compared to Raymond and where you got that from who knows, but CLEARLY, Kesler vs Raymond are two very different players right? And if you took the friggen time to read about his STYLE of play even back then when he was drafted, you see, that he CLEARLY does not play like Mason Raymond. Then add in his size and ask yourself, would be saying he's a perfect fit for Petey if he was a 6'1 219 lb mason raymond?
It seems you're on here just to bitch and moan - grow up
I didn’t compare him to Raymond, he was compared to Raymond, I didn’t say I agree that he’s Raymond. I said JB got fleeced on a terrible trade that doesn’t make us a better team at the cost of what we paid.

There is a silver lining here guys; more GMs are now going to want to make trades with JB

Aquilini should’ve let Gillis see through his plan/rebuild. We would have had Larkin instead of Virtanen. Brackett would still have had his guys he favoured (Boeser, Demko, Gaudette, Madden), and Gradin the same with EP.
Firing Gillis has literally cost us 10 years and soon to be 15-20.
And would have won a Stanley cup if it wasn’t for Rome

Have you watched him play? 6'1 218 is Mason Raymond? Going to the net hard, making life difficult is Mayson Raymond?
Your lack of knowledge on this player clearly explains your soiled pampers all over this threadRight because he was 218 when the comparable was made at the draft.

Miller Pettersson Boeser
Baertschi Horvat Pearson
Miller is 6'1" 218 and will look after Petey and can score. No more body slams by the likes of Matheson.
Yea Miller is so intimidating, he’s really going to scare people off

If we make the playoffs, we give up our first for that year (2020). If we miss, we draft higher obviously and keep that pick but give up the 2021 1st . Which makes complete sense.
If needed, it gives us time to recover any picks to satisfy the souls of all the armchair GM’s that are crying over the fact that we just picked up a good young 50 point player that plays Centre or Wing.
We have our franchise players in Petey and Brock.
Its not a video game, so you can get at me and tell me it’s “just a first” or you can understand the situation or the condition.
Right and both years we are likely a lottery pick. 1st and a 3rd for a 3rd line center or mediocre 2nd liner on a non bargain contract = Fail

If we needed to get rid of Horvat because of cap space, we probably wouldn't get a first round pick from a $&!#ty team. And Horvat is a better (and younger) player than Miller.
Ok that’s crazy, Horvat is clearly worth a 1st +

And I’ll ask this. Would you rather get help now? Or bank on someone who could help the team in 6-7 years? I think the answer should be pretty obvious.
Not against a 1st rounder but not for mediocracy

relax mate. You’re that trench-coat smoking guy in the corner at the party.
Just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean I’m not entitled to my opinion. JB got fleeced.

We’ve been stock piling first round picks since Bo was drafted. That was 6 years ago. It’s time to surround our young core with good solid mid to late 20 year olds. Next up is to give away LE for some spare change.
Stock piling 1st round picks by not acquiring any? Sounds logical

Giving up a 1st is a bit tough, but considering it should be in the 20s the next couple years it’s fine for a guy like Miller, who’s perfect for Horvat and Pearson.
Don’t get your hopes up, we are not a playoff team.
