I think so too. Russians are gonna drop. Simashev and Michkov have the highest ceilings of any players who could be available at our pick. We don't really have anything to lose.

The More clips I see of Simashev I’m just so impressed by his skating. Especially at his size it looks silly.

i do really like Willanders skating too though he’s incredibly quick / mobile is always in guys faces pushing them to places they can’t make plays

    Here's a theory...

The Canucks know buying out OEL will be easier b/c the worst years of the penalty will be the years Simashev steps into our top 4 on an ELC.

Button ranked Wood ahead of Benson and Dvorsky?

Not a rank his mock draft.

like when he ranked virtanen in the 40s or whatever but mocked to us cause he knew we were high on him

so maybe he’s got intel Zona is high on wood.

We're all but guarenteed one of those guys if and when Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov, Smith and Leonard all go before the 11th pick. And with chatter about guys like Danielson and/or Honzek going in the top-10, then that would leave us a choice of at least two of them!

I really like Danielson too and she F we took Honzek I’d be supportive but not as excited as I am for the guys I listed or others even. But yea gonna be super exciting draft day after Bedard at 1.

can’t wait to nerd out with y’all and watch it haha

I could see that happening.  Nashville has 15/46/47, we could likely get 15 and one of those.

Wings have 17 and 41/42/43.  Not sure I'd go down that far, but I'd push for 17/41 and of the other 2nds or at worst their third.  Not sure I'd go that low though.

Detroit would be weird cause we traded that pick and I don’t think we’d go out of 15 from the sounds of it PA said the team has a top 15 but if 2/3 in surplus of 15 are there based off how the draft goes maybe! Would just be weird optics with Detroit hard for me to accept as possible

Nashville seems most likely since they are the draft host too but who knows Arizona might be easier to trade with pick 12 for them

For sure.  I think we will have a few really good options at least.  If the top10 goes forward heavy, we will have the choice of a all the D aside from Reinbacher.  If a few teams reach for D, we will get a crazy talented F.

We really need everything in ourr prospect pool, so unless we go off the board, we can't really lose here.  I just hope we keep the pick.

Im okay dropping to 15 MAX depending on who is there at 11 and who is left on the board.

IF we could still get a solid player at 15 like Willander / Simashev / Danielson and then pick up another solid D prospect in the second round with it I would be very okay with it.

I doubt we move up, and staying put at 11 is most likely I agree.

Craig Button's Mock draft has us selecting Willander. I'd be good with that. Even though he didn't have Simashev in his top 32 ranking he has Nashville drafting him at 24th.

I like Willander A LOT. But we can safely say the pressure on him to shake or OJ fear and have a monster draft +1 year in the NCAA will be mighty strong if this draft scenario became a reality with:

    Dvorsky / Benson / Danielson / Yager / Perreault

    Getting drafted right after.

Seems like the year a top 10 pick gets moved on the floor.

Washington & Vancouver interested in moving up, Montreal & Philly considering moving down.

Wonder if teams want to move up for Michkov. With his immense upside & also uncertainty you gotta think some teams would want to make a play for him while others in his range would be looking towards taking another player. Rare situation.

I heard Montreal wants to move up too.

I see CBJ taking Smith (the American) over Fantilli, who could go to SJ

There is definitely a mystique about Michkov. The phenom who is careful who he talks to. I have him fairly low on my list (#11), due to the risks. But, could be Big Risk = Big Reward. What if this guy turns into a 50-goal scorer? Feels like he's going to Washington at #8. Hmm, Ovechkin wears #8.

I wonder if MTL will just sit at #5 and take the guy they want (Leonard)

Really hoping for Simashev, for some reason. The way he skates and the size, he could be a beast down the road. If they don't get him,. I'm hoping for a C (Dvorsky or Danielson)  I think any one of these players will be a good player for the Canucks one day.

The left side would look real good:

    Hughes

    Simashev

    Pettersson

    Hirose/Rathbone

    Kudryavtsev

    Jurmo

Be great if they could also pick up (RD) Strbak or Sotheran

So in your scenario Anaheim takes Carlsson?

I think with Rick Nash in Columbus its pretty hard to see them not liking Fantilli over Smith. But I could be wrong for sure. I dont know how loud his voice is but I could see them really liking Fantilli.

I could see them taking Smith over Carlsson though easier than I can see over fantilli.

I could very easily see Dvorsky as a top 5 player in this draft, he has all the tools.  Benson has insane upside.  If those 2 are their at 11, they would be the BPAs for sure.

will be interesting if Perreault or ASP push into the top 10.

I think I can see Willander ahead of Moore or Danielson (I’d be fine with any of those 3) but, yeah, leaving Dvorsky on the board would sting.

    It just wont happen.

Kid is a physical monster. Hes the youngest in the draft and has a very good development path in front of him. He really showed at the u18s he can dominate his peers too.

I just dont see him getting out of the top 10 and if hes there when we go up I could see our scouting group being very high on him but we will see how things shake down.

My most wanted on draft day now in our draft range:

    DVORSKY / WOOD / REINBACHER / WILLANDER / SIMASHEV

Reinbacher and Dvorsky likely gone though.

I really want one of Wood / Willander / Simashev.

Not sure how I’d feel us going Willander over Dvorsky.  Or Moore.  Or Danielson.  If the top 10 goes C heavy let’s pivot to D but if not, I hope we take one of the C’s.

Id struggle with passing on Dvorsky big time.

Willander I am comfortable taking over a lot of guys but not sure about over him.

I highly doubt Craigs mock is accurate here but sometimes he gets strong reads on players / team aligned interests.

Wood to Arizona I had not even considered but it could make a lot of sense. And they do scout the NCAA heavy,

Not yet. but their current 3rd pairing LD is either Brad Hunt or Kurtis MacDermid.

Landeskog LTIR saves them 7 mill.

Maybe they won't spend as much on a player like OEL, but he could provide good insurance for a 2nd pairing if/when Byram goes down at any point.

I can’t even imagine him in their sweater for some reason but if it happens cheers to the call!

Bo Horvat reincarnate ... very similar in how Danielson always attacks single mindedly straight forward to the net, and has that one move to get through defenders. His passes tend to work a little better than Bo's when a teammate is able to get into the play.

I disagree, the only comps I see between them at the same age is that they are C and most public scouting reports say 3C potential.

Bo wasn't a playmaker for us and he wasn't for the Knights. He was mostly a finisher.

He also wasn't a great skater in his draft year.

Nate does drive the net but he also makes space for his line mates by using his speed and size and makes great passing plays regularly. He plays to make space for his wingers an creates opportunities for lesser line mates regularly. And I think that should be really of note. Hi passes you say work better, and he has lesser line mates. It says a lot about how he elevates players around him in how he plays the game you know.

If you are comparing Bo in the NHL with his toe drag rushes sure I can see that but its not Nates only way of creating offence.

All for adding Soucy if he's game, and if it's a sensible contract for a player who is really a number 5 defenseman, depth wise.

The gamble will be can he be second pairing guy when partnered with d the level of Hronek. Where Hronek leads the pairing and he just makes the simple/physical plays etc

if our management projects it I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt since for the most part their pro scouting has been pretty good

much better then we are use to lol

Yeah Miro was the captain at YOGs. Maybe at Hlinkas too, although I don't quite recall. I don't think I'd heard anything about Michkov's attitude, although it wouldn't surprise me. Hard not to be cocky when you're that good at that age.

Given the climate even in North America in recent years where political discourse is so prevalent in everyday conversation, I wondered if their beef may have been related to that. I can only imagine how heated things are in Russia in recent years. If Michkov is more of a nationalist, while we know Miro has been trying to come to North America for years. Remember he was set to go to the USHL his D-2 year when covid hit and they wouldn't accept new international transfers. He sat out most of the season until January hoping to play USHL before finally playing MHL. He went to Germany for his cancer treatment. I dunno man, I kinda hate this gossipy speculative shit, but I guess I might as well share some things I've noticed, whether or not they mean anything.

Ya all the stuff circulating Michkov you wonder hoe much truth there is to it.

OR if its scouts slandering to try and help him fall to them, or michkov trying to go to a specific team, or bitter scouts upset they wont get him trying to slander too lol. Or media people just trying to make something into a problem.

Its hard to know when he wasn't at the combine and didn't do interviews too,

    BUT

I just saw this ^ for what its worth
