Sure that's true ... we just have a difference of opinion. I mean a hinderance to having $5 mil available in cap space. I'm honestly not trying to be an ahole. It's just my honest assessment right or wrong.

I think you're both right to a degree.  If you can get something for Garland then you would be wise to do so.  If it takes any kind of "sweetener" then no thanks.  Hang on to him.  @canuck73_3 is right in that Garland is a solid player who has value on the ice.

If there's some trade value (and I don't think that there is) then move him.  If not then play him.  He's quite useful imo.

As a player, I liked him just fine.

My disappointment in him stems from him as a captain and leader. I always got the sense he just dreaded that role and was kinda put in that role by default. He just didn’t exude any confidence whatsoever. His personality just didn’t fit with being a captain and leader. He was the leading scorer and that’s why he was made captain IMO.  It also doesn’t help that he completely praised Messier’s leadership skills and how he taught him so much. That’s one of the reasons the Canucks never advanced past the 2nd round IMO. Of course, there were other factors that contributed to that, including the annual Cloutier playoff meltdown. I often wondered how their fortunes could have changed if they had true leadership though.

He and the team would have just been better off if he was just a top line player and not captain.

I’m sure you and many others will strongly disagree with this, but it’s how I truly feel.

All of that is valid criticism.  He certainly did have some disappointing aspects to his career.  That’s still a far cry from being the greatest disappointment in the history of the team.

    Hot take: Naslund :bigblush:

This take is almost impressively bad!  Top 3 all time scorer in our history.  Top 15 in the playoffs (higher if you count PPG).  What exactly did you expect of him if he's your greatest disappointment?

The correct (and obvious) answer is Messier.  I can understand if people are too young to get it.  (But no sympathy if you're just trying to be different lol).  It's Messier and it's not even remotely close.

  4. This is a case where I support the coaches decision.  Personally I do not think he’ll be picking Miller but if he does then that’s great.  JT sets an example (well… usually anyways) that I’d like the rest of the team to follow.  RT will select Hughes if I was to guess.  Seems like the most intelligent choice but again… I defer to the coach on this.  I like the way RT approaches things (so far anyways) and think it’s important that he continues to run the ship his way.

Caught the highlights this morning, looks like he dominated. Exciting fighter!

Also, anyone here know a good bar in Vancouver I can catch the Crawford/Spence fight this Saturday?

Did you end up finding a place to watch the fight?

I thought it was fantastic but I was cheering for Crawford.  Not sure how it was as a neutral observer.

  6. How about Naoya Inoue!?  I thought that Fulton would be a good test for him but he made it look easy.  Too much of everything.  Speed, power, timing, skill… you name it.

I find it interesting that he’s so close in size to Pacquiao.  I wonder if he’ll make a similar charge up the weight classes.

  7. Has anyone ever grabbed Lions tickets from Costco?  They look like a good deal but it's been quite some time since I've been to a game.

I want to bring my son (who is only 7) and my wife says that she'd like to come as well. (Neither of them understands the rules btw.  We're dealing with new fans here).

We're not looking at any particular game.  Just generally would like to get to a game.

haha, no... i got what you were referring to that sucked. I should have typed...'Isn't he good!' ...i used the wrong punctuation. I underestimated him too. Thats why I mentioned cerebral etc... I was once asked what attribute I would rather have...speed or power....I answered, timing. Hill has that in spades.

Yeah, I'm happy with that title scenario.  Would love to see either guy vs Jiri.

    BTW, Jiri is awesome too.

As a bit of a traditionalist myself, its fun to watch him doing the samurai thing...punching trees etc...lol/

    You're both warming my heart!

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast baby!!  Timing + precision (+understanding of range I suppose) > everything else!

I asked a while ago for the mods to change the name of this thread as the world of MMA is quickly getting bigger than just the UFC.

I try not to talk about them much anymore as I disagree with ALOT about that company. The latest being their use of UFC 290 to promote that last POTUS.

But for you, a UFC story. ...I might be giving the edge in the gimmick fight to Zuck now.

Elon has GSP but Zuck just joined up with two of my fav current champs...

I hear you and I do generally agree.  I just like the sport too much.  Bellator and One FC  are two promotions with some seriously world class fighters if people are looking for alternatives.  The 135 division in Bellator is particularly good as is their 205 champ.  (Imo he’s better than Hill in the UFC). While I haven’t personally gotten in to PFL as much, I can acknowledge that they also have some damned good fighters.

My point being that you need to support the individual fighters and not the UFC brand.  I still can’t help watching the UFC (even though I share your distaste for the company). Like it or hate it, they have the most world class events (this last weekend being a fine example) at this time.

  10. Wow!  I'm surprised that there's no discussion on UFC 290.  I thought that it was the best card in quite some time.  Fight of the year candidates, up and coming stars, retiring legends and a P4P performance to cap it off.  This one had something for everyone!

Sounds like they're going to box for real.  Not the "no knockdowns" exhibition that was rumored by Eddie Hearn.

I like this better.  Obviously Fury should be expected to dominate in his own sport.  There have been times when he's underestimated opponents and gotten sloppy however.  Would be interesting to see what happens if he actually got caught with a bomb.  Unlikely that it happens...  But yah never know!
