I disagree entirely. Beauvilier or Myers are easily worth a 3C
What seems to be the hang up then? Moving either of them would certainly help our current cap situation. (Although it does absolutely nothing for next year but that's a whole different can of worms)

And it’s not even close. Devils will miss the playoffs this season and Hack Hughes will be laughed at.
Nobody even thinks about NJ enough to laugh at. If anything people will say "oooh yeah! Remember him?"

You need to try this first on a Devils forum and see how much the pendulum swings.
And then you have to find a neutral team and do another vote there. Like... Chicago or... Tampa?
You're right of course. EP has home ice advantage here.
I can't speak for anyone else but I genuinely tried to take bias out of this. I still end up picking EP.
If they both played on the same team, I would be more comfortable putting EP out there against the other teams' top forwards. He's easier to utilize in any situation if you ask me.
Speed seems to be the only advantage that JH has. It's a big one for sure but is it enough to make him the better player? Not for me.

I'll take the one who plays on the defensive end at an elite level
This is how I feel as well. Defense is the difference.
If the question was "who is the better offensive player" it would be close. If you look at their overall game then you have to go with EP.

He just makes the most sense for so many reasons. Idk how to say this without offending someone so I'll just say it. QH hasn't (to my knowledge) slowly sulked his way off the ice and then turned around later and freaked out at the backup goalie when they didn't get off the ice fast enough (due to confusion not attitude)
In JT Miller, I see similar qualities as Jovo and Bieksa. Were they not also leaders? This team absolutely made the right call!

Ain't that most NHL teams nowadays though, seems most teams don't really have one, they just have a few guys who seem willing to step up now and again
Guys like Schenn who've made their bones regularly going are few and far between, and even guys like Scenn and Reaves are throwbacks to the time they'd have grown up in
Feeder leagues were different when they were coming up too and have changed alongside the NHL
It still weirds me out that guys like Reaves, Schenn, Lucic, Wilson etc. are considered heavyweights. Just goes to show how the league is changing.
When there were still legit heavyweight enforcers, Lucic was terrified of them. He wanted no part of those guys. Yet now many considered him to be the top "heavyweight" lol
I dunno if I'll ever get used to it.

Do they even have any players we need? They’re not giving up Doughty or Kopitar. Doubt the Ducks would give us Terry or Carlsson.
John Gibson!!!

How about October 11 when the Oilers are in town to open our regular season?
I don’t think this team and its fan base require much extra-curricular marketing. Just name the captain and get on with it. I miss the days when there was less hype and fanfare over every conceivable event and milestone. Too much of it imo.
They could invite these dudes in for the ceremony.I demand that our new captain enters the arena like this.
Especially if it's JT lol

Nothing wrong with going with three "A" for the time being (imho). (Hughes, Miller & EP).
Nothing wrong with it at all. Especially if it helps the team to make a smart decision. My gut feeling is that they have an idea of who they're going to pick but want to see what the room is like through training camp/pre-season and make the final decision then.
My guess is that we'll find out on either October 11 (game 1 of the regular season and home opener as well) or October 14 (It would be pretty special to be announced on Saturday night HNIC and perhaps a tad less pressure being on the road for that one.)

I don't think it's the media as much as "social media" that he avoids.
He seems to be fine with interviews.
Fair enough. I've never been 100% clear on his feelings there.
I still think that JT can be the leader that we need him to be without being named captain. I'm not locked in to that opinion though. RT has gained my trust and I think he'll make the right call.

I think the C would weigh on JT and possibly affect his game. He seems to have hinted at the fact that he prefers to ignore the media. Well that's not happening if you're the captain. He gets frustrated fairly often. I don't think we should compound the issue.
He would be a great captain in terms of the example he sets and the things he brings on the ice. His leadership certainly benefits the team. If RT was to put give Miller the C I'd definitely support the decision. Tocchet is much better positioned to make an informed decision than any of us. Quinn just feels like the logical choice both on and off the ice. The arguments against him seem to boil down to "he's small" or "he's young" lol. That's pretty weak. (hockey DB has him listed as about the same size as Sakic and Yzerman. Quinn is also older than either of those guys when they were named captains)
It seems like those in support of JT are a little less reasonable. Looks like a lot are ready to be mad if they don't get their way. Or am I reading that wrong?

Or maybe Horvat was overvalued as a player. He wasn't great defensively and was padding his stats at the end. His play came back to reality when he went to NYI. Thank god we never signed that boat anchor contract. He'll be lucky to ever put up 60 PTS again
You forgot to add “I’ll tell you that for free”

RT has been complimentary of Hughes, as for JT who knows
That being said, I'd take any media soundbytes regarding either player with a grain of salt, Vancouver is a fishbowl and RT likely knows that by now
Management has kept their cards to themselves, we don't know what their preference is
Agreed. At best you can say "I don't know who they prefer"
Anything else is just personal feelings/emotion.

Just because some fans want JT as captain doesn't mean Hughes isn't a legit and viable option
If Hughes is names captain it's likely because the parties involved think he's the right choice for likely numerous reasons
Same goes for JT if he's named captain, regardless of how much I'd disagree with the choice
We cam argue til we're red in the face but we've just gotta hope they know what they're doing at the end of the day
As for Pettersson, we simply don't know, we just have to wait and see, but management making rash moves isn't going to help their case if they want to retain him
That entire post was based on emotion imo. Has RT ever given any indication (at all) that JT is his preference?
Honest question. Not trying to be a smartass.

JT would be the perfect Captain but I understand if they go Hughes.
Petey should be stripped of his A. The guy has demonstrated he is not invested here and will leave if the team does not meet his expectations. That’s not leadership.
They won’t do that because they want to try and keep him.
What makes you think this? RT has heaped a lot of praise on Quinn for his leadership.
I think it's fans that want JT. Not unlike when fans wanted someone other than Naslund. Burke was on the radio recently and said that everyone from the coach up to management felt like Nazzy was a no brainer. (His words)
JT gets frustrated enough as it is. I don't think the C would help with that.

Perhaps, if mikheyev doesn't play to start the year, the hits balance each other out?
Dhali says that he’s 3-4 weeks away from being “100%” so I ruled out that possibility. But I agree that another injury is probably the only way.

Well happy if he’s back as he brings something our smaller wingers don’t.
However this kind of complicates the cap situation a bit. Is there any way we can be cap compliant without any moves?
If there is then someone will need to explain it to me. It sure doesn’t look like it.
