  1. I love this kid game an compete. I kinda think he has bumped Subban down depth chart .Kinda reminds at times of more skilled Gath Butcher but just has not arrived at Butcher abrasiveness grit levels yet but ,compete an skill levels are real good . The D prospect list is starting to look good , real good.

coach Green effect is totally evident here with young stars tourney.

One thing is clear the D situation at camp just got very interesting .

If this does not excite you about our D upside potential nothing will in the western Conference.

cannot wait for camp to start this year.

Looking on generalfanager doesn't look like any ntc or nmc. If this is true great job JB.

Signing bonus could be construed as a detriment to moving down the road at future date. Sounds like as much as half contract is signing bonus.this may sour potential teams from grabbing him later on . But , knowing JB he will just give up A second as he tends to .If he performs for at least two years I think it will still be $$ well spent on retool on the fly ala Aqua man style.

Boedker , Vanek an Martin are my list to go for now

martin would be great default grit addition to add.

Happy Canada day Canuck fans !

I no longer have that empty feeling I had on Draft day.

ps now it really seems to bad we did not buy Burrows out . We could now use that cap cushion right now

    probably 3 years 3 million

If they could lock him in at 3x3

i think they try pull trigger but I still remember his TDL move to Montreal a few years ago they considered him a bust pick up .he would be great value for couple years if he can maintain production an does not  go into WD dog pound .he needs second line minutes to thrive an could see that with our current batch  of tweeners

    That sounds correct.

I don't see him coming over this spring. If he comes after April 30 I suspect he will want a one way contract.I can't see JB doing this either so suspect he will play another year or two in the KHL. That would not be a bad thing as, JB has somehow hemmed himself into a corner with over loaded LD side . JB has pride an I can see him resigning Hamhuis for another 2 years at least.

Unless trader Jim can trade a couple D out which I cannot see either we are stuck out another year with a sad Soft D an will compete for next years mediocre draft lottery for real.

How do coaches reward poor play

Would that be limited minutes, no pp , pk , very little play time at crucial times of games

Well it would seem Coach Ron Wilson has a similar assessment.

Put it this way.  If I'm a coach playing against the US in this WJC I'm putting my player with the highest percentage of winning battles on the boards against Boeser as from watching every one of the Americans games they have few weaknesses, but Boesers line looks like the weak link which can be exploited.   I believe that's an opportunity for teams like the Russians to beat the US

Boesers compete level along the boards is clearly suspect and if you have watched you cannot deny.

He looks lost without Schmautz doing all the work to set him up as he stands still waiting for a pass.

Like I have repeatedly said Benning failed to pick the best player at pick 23 as Travis Konecny is clearly the better player of the 2 as I'm sure you can now see, even know Konecny is playing on a younger weaker team he has the compete level and well rounded game to play in any situation.   I am sure Konecny will be playing in the NHL next year.    Boeser well lol  he better get his degree.

yes for sure Konecny has shone bright so far his compete is consistant, an exceptional. He probably will go on an have a NHL career with numbers that make one green with envy. another lost pick that was overlooked by real expert eyes, OVersight? or just dumb luck again?

  8. Well as a prospect some of his highlight videos caught alot of folks off guard.

Just how far off he is as a prospect is light years away yet.At least he is playing in the Worlds he gets to see the passion of other world class juniors spin their trade on the ice ,Hopefully he can grow from the experience an take away more than a good hair day.

  9. I am gonna call it as 2015 ends here I have a gut feeling the kids gonna be a bust for JB ,Its just my gut he is a bigger project than Bearschi . I am not drinking the JB coolaid ,Unless he can get coaching in the AHL for at least 3 years cannot see him making it to the big show in the NHL. Where is his character?

  10. seems slow an does not display hunger other team mates have does not chase down loose pucks for a winger this is a must he has stayed away from the tough areas an on the perimeter player.

He will be a big project I see his development delayed by at least two years playing in the college game in his case not applicable to all drafted players but here it would seem he is not moving forward but side ways.

JB drafts Character players not just talent so both items are missing after three games and a few exhibitions.

He has a long long way to go to get a sniff at next level

Yeah this team doesn't need any more of those guys.

I am happy we picked Boeser,Konechey is kinda a smurf player we have enough of these type players over the years already, he offers nothing spectacular that stands out other than his skating an enthusiasium

Does it not make you just a bit sick knowing it's Higgins who is playing in the spot where Guance deserves to be?

yes an no really I see a silver lining here as a strong draft pick may drop in our lap this is a good trade off an offset an can live an complain till june .

  13. he is viewed as a liabilityby the league an refs have targeted him an easy touch to give other teams a power play against us.

it is some what more he is $4.5 million dollar expensive liability with very little chance to be traded he is locked in with us for the duration.

  14. so the "experiment" is over because he shelters their mins in close games, against teams with experienced superstars on them?

"Thats horse $&!# an you know it". call some when else out who cares about your base attitude .When are you gonna call the experiment off after 9 games?.There appears to be a problem an its not you or I.an I think that WD is part of it an is to conservative to try right out at home games to steal a game with young guys shortening the bench for vets an gassing them resulting in losing leads is par .for the way he coaches. So right now it is a depth issue an the team seems to be struggling with lack of successful depth.rolling 3 lines down the third period makes for a painfully long year ,scoring is gonna be outstanding issue . I presumed that some scoring issues might be mitigated with the young guns but if they dont get to play an grow its a moot point. So it would be better to add some of the seasoned vets that are in the AHL system that can play 2-1 games an nurse leads WD style. An let the first line run after all it is still their team too.

A differing point of views only can confirm the contrast in aproach an ideoligy so its ok with me to send them back now an not let any more momentum slip away from this team . We have the velvet glove in WD an had iron fist in Tortorala maybe the velvet glove has yet to convey the message well enough to be understood by all the players not just young guns.

  15. I still believe management has the right idea with theVirtanen project, his game can better be refined an cleaned up on the big club 4 th line an it wont hurt with good coaching. From what others have said that they are leary about sending him back to waste a year with hit men If he achieved the success Horvatt an Vey had last year it would be considered a successfull season in his development. It seems his only focus is to hit like a bus anything that moves right now he needs to be paced an continue to develop his fwo way game delicate balance of all atributes he has an can evolve to be the player of his full potential.

The Hutton Gaunce situation allows some flex in sending them to Utica right now until some bodies are shipped out injured or traded for picks.

Sadly would like to see McCann stay but the numbers game may not allow it this situation is not unlike Horvat last year.I do think keeping him would not be as challenging as say keeping Virtanen. as McCann can play both ends an is a center.

Out of the three forwards Virtanen is only one that seems with some coaching an a adjustment time period would be required but the other two are game ready with their skill set an play center would slide in fairly seemlessly with more instant productivity with instant gratification with what they already bring to the team.

Its not that has played badly but has been out performed by other players mainly centers which is another topic.
  16. I think the category Mac is probably game breaker type of player with impact to change games an hence the high values attributed to his skill set now .Boeser may well be a game breaking scorer for the canucks in the future ,but all indications are he will have to win his way onto roster with a two way game to point of not being a liability on D side of the puck.He may prove out to be a pure sniper once all the skill sets are molded to the NHL game style the canucks play, scorers,an snipers are an important element to the mix an composite make up of the team.I love Mac but at this point the team direction supercedes his atributes at this time an he will be successful but may need a centre to help him arrive there. To me the important thing is Boeser is in the fold an his upside is up to him an this may surprise more than a few.I think Bo is a future captain of the team down the road.no need to say anymore just more up beat this year about reloading to prospect pool with capable potential that could prove itself out to more than flash in pan rebuild.

  17. I must say has plumber written all over him If he is an above average skater an can pass in tight confined space perhaps there may be some upside I would say on surface he may be overrated by many of the evaluations on him should have been a third rd.Not sure I think this is a crap shoot pick with marginal upside perhaps a filler for the farm system? really not sure why we did not scour the WHL for a good western hockey bred player? just my first impressions as I do not have enough knowledge of him other than others opinions from and judgement .We In Van always seem to overvalue an hype what we pick up.
