did not have to be signed for 3 years though.

Needed good quality D men more than another forward.

He's been a good pick up, but D is where the largest problem is.

And $4.75 mill per, for 4 years is big money- especially as- D is where the biggest problem is.

If they are bringing in MIk- then some other high paid forward needed to go.- preferably for a quality D man.

Accident tanks, when play offs were the expectation- is not a good look on management or the team.

The off season I consider sheer incompetence at addressing the issues of last season. I hope they get worse. At this point Bedard is all I find to root for.

It was. My response was a line that Ricky used in an episode.....IIRC, the line was "And they're not even a real country, like Calgary or Texas"....

I have to confess that I sometimes take part in the prairie province bashing, (specifically Alberta and Saskatchewan) but I come by it honestly. I spent the bulk of the 80s traveling around those two provinces with a band. I've seen the attitude first hand....^_^

Gotta say....the irony isn't lost on me that we're discussing TPB here in the Science thread. :gocan:

The theory of piss jugs isn't scientific?

Here in Aus like many places people are patriotic about their country, then they put crap on people who live in other states/ provinces.

I remember going north and being called a Mexican, I was like WTF, and the guy was like you are a Victorian, you live south of the border.

It was meant as an insult.

Queenslanders are like the rednecks in America to many.

Tassie people are told they have 2 heads.

I notice on this forum many people put crap on people from other parts of Canada.

I have noticed this in the UK and the US.

You can even break it down below a state level.

I wonder if the Dunbar number amongst other factors has anything to do with this.

I have often thought this would make a great topic for a study of this particular kind of human behaviour.

And just so we are clear my original post was a joke.

It seems one has to make that point now days.

    I love trailer Park boys.

Alberta deserves all the scorn it gets. Learn to drive around corner at more than half the speed limit for cryin out loud! :bigblush:

    Pressure growing to remove UFC head honcho;

"Dana White has long been the face of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and during all those years he has said nobody bounces back from hitting a woman.

In fact, he said exactly that during an appearance on FS1 back in 2014:

“There’s one thing that you never bounce back from and that’s putting your hands on a woman,” White said.

Well, over the holiday weekend a video emerged of White hitting his wife Anne during a dispute at a packed nightclub in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and now it’s time for the UFC owners at Endeavor to listen to White’s words and show him the door. As he said, nobody bounces back from putting his hands on a woman, and rightfully so.

White talked to TMZ  and gave a rambling statement that really made no sense at all. It was clearly just a way for the fight promotor to try to take control of the story and do his best to sweep it under the rug before it could become the big story that it should be..

Let’s go through White’s statement and try to make sense of what he said. We’ll start with how he started it – admitting that he hit his wife, Anne:

“I’m in Cabo, Mexico, for the holidays with my family and my wife and I were out with family on New Year’s Eve, and unfortunately that’s what happened.”

Then he went back to his message about not bouncing back from putting your hands on a woman:

“I’m one of the guys, you heard me say for years: There’s never, ever an excuse for a guy to put his hands on a woman. And now here I am on TMZ talking about it.”

Again, he’s right by saying there’s never an excuse.

Here he is bringing up how long he and Anne have been married, which really doesn’t matter at all:

“My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years. We’ve known each other since we were almost 12 years old. We’ve obviously been through some s— together and we’ve got three kids, and this is one of those situations that’s horrible.”

Yes, he’s right – it was horrible. If you’ve seen the video you’ll agree.

Here’s White again saying how long he’s been married to his wife and that this was an “unfortunate” situation.

“People are going to have their opinions on this. Most of the people’s opinions will be right – especially in my case. You don’t put your hands on a woman ever. My wife and I obviously love each other. We’ve been together for a very long time. We’ve known each other since we were very little and this is just one of those unfortunate situations.”

Not sure how “being together for a very long time” should carry any weight here so I won’t allow it to. Also not sure what he means by, “Most of the people’s opinions will be right – especially in my case.” Like, what?

Here is White not making excuses while also making an excuse by saying there was a lot of alcohol involved.

“There was definitely a lot of alcohol, but there’s no excuse. I’m literally making no excuses for this thing at all. It’s never happened before. It’s the first time that it’s ever happened, and people are going to say what they’re going to say. It is what it is. And whatever people do say, it’s deserved. I deserve it. It happened.”

Also, saying “It’s never happened before. It’s the first time that it’s ever happened,” are just more excuses that don’t really carry any weight, either, because it did happen. He did it.

And yes, White does deserve something for this – a severe punishment. Imagine if any other commissioner in sports was seen on video hitting their wife? This news would be everywhere and they would be out of a job in a heartbeat.

White isn’t out of a job. In fact, he has a new venture starting up this month – the Power Slap league, which is a league that will have people slapping each other in the face as hard as they can.

    For real.

White can’t be the face of that moving forward and he can’t be the face of the UFC anymore, either.

You just can’t bounce back from putting your hands on a woman.

    Just ask Dana White.

I honestly don't care. She slapped him..he slapped back. Not like he full on punched and beat her. Stupid drunken move and shouldn't happen but is what it is. I could see him kicked to the curb.

The most and least peaceful countries in the world (2022 rating) according to the Institute for Economcs and Peace (whatever that may be).

(Iceland is the most peaceful.    At #163, Afghanistan is the least peaceful.  Canada came in at #12.  US at #129.

Need to visit Iceland sometime. For a small country they sure produce a ton of great music. Long winter inside must be a factor :)

Big rematch, Czechia are probably favourites but they struggled to score against stingy Sweden. This will be an interesting matchup, top offence vs an almost NHL ready top 4 defence.

Goaltending might decide this game like the last one.

Giving it to Czechia 4-3 in regulation.

Canada controlled the first game handedly and had some weaker goals against while their goalie was top notch. I am not reading too much into that game.

Can't cancel, but I think it's distasteful for Canada to be hosting -- even moreso if they win.

The victims get no justice, and everyone will celebrate as if nothing happened.

WTF does them winning have to do with anything? These players had nothing to do with all that....

I could have seen IIHF banning us from hosting for a while if Canada hosting wasn't a ton of the operating budget....

I haven't watched a whole game in over a month. I'll watch parts of games and check the box score or pop in here.

I've never been like this until this year, I've always watched every game religiously.

This team currently is losing its die hard fans. Hard to watch.

I've turned off over 50% of the games I've watched and sometimes just don't bother turning them on. I watched almost every game for the past 15 years and at least 80-90% for the 10 years before that.

When I say I am done with this shit I will add that I've been watching this team since the 80s.

That is how bad things are and how much I dislike the owners and management. I'd bring in absentee owner McCaw in a heartbeat. I just don't have it in me anymore to tune in and waste my time. That is what the Canucks have become...a giant waste of time.
