  1. The kicker is as bad as these trades were the very worst Benning trade never made the list. https://thehockeywriters.com/cancuks-5-worst-jim-benning-trades/
  2. I'm seeing a tier forming with a lot of mock drafts after Michkov/Smith and that's the Leonard, Dvorsky, Reinbacher and Benson tier not necessarily in that order but they're the names that pop up the most in that bracket, which brings us to 9. Between 10-14 is where Willander, Moore, ASP, Barlow, Simeshev and Danielson. Unfortunately the Blues will get the first crack at that next tier but we will at the very least get one of these players. I wouldn't be surprised at all if 5`11 and under players dropping in the draft. Players like Ryan Leonard aren't a guarantee to be picked in that tier. But like I said before scouts don't draft players they just scout. It's the GMs that pick the player. Anyone after Smith can go anywhere.
  3. It's funny, only a few weeks ago some were saying there would be no defenceman in the top, now with Willander`s stock skyrocketting there could be as many as 4. There can be only 10 in the top 10. If Willander goes before our turn we could be looking at a Dvorsky or Moore being available. Something's got to give.
  4. Danielsons rock bottom is a great 3rd line centre. I could see him making the lineup next year and be a solid 3rd line centre for the Canucks because we're so thin up the middle and he'll get a ton of ice time. He'll be a Tocchet favourite. Moore on the other hand, his rock bottom is 2nd line centre. He'd enter the league as a rookie as one of the fastest centres in the league. Like Danielson his numbers were also suppressed with his pp ice time nowhere near the pp time Smith, Perreault and Leonard got. Moore's even strength production was very impressive and he didn't get to play with anyone good until he got paired with Eiserman and his production went up pretty good. So Dvorsky, Moore, Danielson in that order. All 3 will be fine at 11.
  5. What Will Smith did against his peers in the U18's was impressive but I do t think it compares to what Fantilli did agAinst men in both the NCAA and in the Worlds for Canada.
  6. Canucks need players that can make the team in a year. Benson, Danielson, Moore, Dvorsky, Willander, Barlow. I don't think they need to draft a project that will take 3 years. Hopefully Dvorsky or Moore drops to 11, if not Danielson is a great consolation pick.
  7. Absolutely, anyone from #5 to #20 is anyone's guess. For example Button has ASP 5th but The Hockey News has him 14th OA. It's all over the place once you get past Smith, nobody has any idea where Michkov will end up and he's arguably the 2nd most talented player. All we have to go with is the consensus but scouts don't draft players GMs draft players and it doesn't matter where players rank all that matters is the 10 GMs that pick before the Canucks. We don't know what they're looking for or how the scouting staffs of each team assesses talent. SomethIng tells me the smaller players will fall because of the bar Vegas has set.
  8. I think the Canucks want to see what they have in 23 year old Filip Johannson who is also a very agile right handed 1st rounder, the Canucks have options there. Raty is still very raw this year was a right off for him. He had a pretty dreadful season with the Abby Canucks. He's not close. I think Johansson makes the Canucks next year.
  9. I've heard some think Danielson caps out as a Brandon Sutter type player. When healthy a very good 3rd line centre. But I feel he has alot of untapped potential and can easily see him as a second line centre if given the chance to play with better players.
  10. I'd be surprised if Benson falls past the Redwings. They need someone dynamic
  11. this one starts off with Willander showing his agility
  12. I've heard comparisons of Brandon Sutter. When he was healthy he was a great #3 centre for the Canucks. Maybe there's more potential if he plays with better players. I see 2nd line potential with Danielson. Moore has McKinnon tier speed though, he'd be hard to pass up over Danielson.
  13. When Bob McKenzie comes out with his final rankings that will give a much better feel for what scouts are thinking. he takes the consensus of many scouts
  14. The Canucks most pressing need is centre depth. At one point is was a rhd but with the additions of Bear, McWard, Hronek and Woo taking a massive step and Johansson playing well in the SHL, it's not our #1 urgency anymore. The Canucks desperately need some blue chip centre depth in their prospects pool. My targets would be Moore, Danielson or Dvorsky in the 1st round and Wahlberg in the 3rd round
  15. I like Pods and Klim too. I think Klim took a massive step this year but draft prospects aren't a sure thing, it was just a few years ago the Canucks boasted one of the very best prospect pools in the NHL with sure-fire up and coming stars like Johnathan Dahlen and Adam Gaudette. Palmu had just won rookie of the year as did Dahlen and Gaudette won the hobby Baker. Mikey DePietro was named Most Outstanding Goaltender in the CHL in 2016-17 and won OHL Goaltender of the following year. Out of our highly touted prospect pool only Hughes and Petey have panned out.
  16. That would require something this organization has lacked since seemingly it's inception. Patients
  17. If the draft went down like that and we're at 11 with Barlow and Moore still up on the board I'm taking Moore.
  18. seems like every scouting org has a different ranking. here is Dobber Prospects Final Rankings and it's pretty interesting
  19. Juolevi filled a need as well and he didn't work out. Everytime a team drafts out of need it ends in disaster. Remember when the Canadians drafted KK? That was a need pick and it took him 5 years before he started showing promise. Over the years the Canucks have benefited from other teams reaching for off the board players. Thank you Arizona and Montreal for Quinn Hughes. Let other teams reach and let the Canucks pick bpa.
  20. Taking away the cannibalism was Jeffery Dahmer really that bad? Of course I jest but it's the same line of logic only to an extreme degree.
  21. I like Willander but he's just too risky at 11. And though Willander covers some of the Canucks immediate needs there are more talented players available at 11, possibly star core players. I wouldn't gamble it away on a Defenceman that didn't put up very good numbers in his J20 league. I like a lot of what he brings but it's not going to be alot of offence. At 11 you expect them to excel at both offence and defence. I see ASP and Reinbacher as the only 2 that have shown they excell at both sides of the ice. This would be the safe way. but.... There are players that maybe worth taking the risk for. Take Simashev for example he didn't put up any numbers in his pro league and yet you look at his raw skill and you think if we could develop this he could be an absolute unicorn. His combination of size, speed, physicality, vision and defensive range on the PK is insane because he has a defensive mind as well. Same as Wood, with his hands were looking at a Nash, Bertuzzi type rarely ever seen player. They both just need so much time and typically teams don't want to invest 3 or 4 years into a player. With Willander I just don't see any of that potential at 11.
  22. I think ASP's rock bottom floor is a top 4 defenceman on his skating, passing and defensive hockey iq alone. nevermind his offense
  23. What if Simashev, Cristall, Sale and Perreault are all taken in the top 10? You could make the argument all 4 could be there after #5 depending on what teams want and the rankings they have. I can see Dvorsky, Benson, Reinbacher and Moore all available at 11. I see a lot of final rankings that still have Cristall and Perreault in the top 10.
  24. Yeah, some made the excuse of his injuries but that can only account for so much. There's no excuse to be so horribly out of shape that you're rolling on the ice sucking wind. You can do cardio you can work out, there's lots of things you can do to stay in shape even if you're injured.
  25. When Button has ASP ranked so high at first i was sceptical. Then I went back to the things he said about Quinn Hughes and everything he said was bang on. Can ASP be a top 2 Defenceman? Button seems to think so. In the 2019 draft he has Victor Soderstrom ranked 25 and he was taken 11th OA after Podkolzin. I think he was also correct with his assessment as he has struggled to make the NHL. I think when it comes to scouting smaller defencemen Button has a proven track record and I'd be more inclined to side with his analysis of ASP and he has him ranked 5th. I don't think I'd rank him that high but it's something to ponder. I see Makar and Byrum for the Avs and they're not big defencemen. The Canucks should focus on talent first and size second, but if the Canucks scouting staff has identified a pick that has both maybe they take Simashev. I'd rather they take the safer pick though and ASP is a righty, and the Canucks need that.
