Baertschi and Goldy really seem to dominate the pace in the o-zone together. Sven looks far more physically engaged in the past few games. seems like he is finding his game again.
Hard to see what happened there but Baertschi picked off the pass which he does a lot and made a gorgeous, quick touch pass to Goldy. Just a gorgeous play all around. Total dagger in the heart for Charlotte.

Holy crap I went to this one and Comets are pretty good. Baertschi Gokdobin line is totally unfair. They literally toyed with Charlotte. Macewen Bailey are monsters. Boucher sneaks in and is just sniping. And then Kole Lind who had a goal and assist and could have had three goals. Wow. Wait til we get Sautber and Gaudette
Back.
DiPietro was excellent tonight. He is going to be a good one.
Juollevi looked very good. One on one totally solid, moving the puck well and is well matched with Chatfield who is lightning. He has taken a step forward this year.
Brigan Rafferty is also a sleeper. He is a good skater has some size and has good judgment out there. High IQ player.
Fun year so far. And Octoberfest before the game was great. Another big party before the game tomorrow too.

Don't discount Sutter who leads the team in PK time on ice/game or Beagle who is 4th.
Beagle playing 60% of zone starts in D-zone and Sutter 73% so far. Freeing up our stars offensively.
They are doing a lot of the heavy lifting for sure. And they occasionally threaten to score too. Both are playing well.

And DiPietro was excellent winning his first AHL game in Utica. Silovs is having an excellent start. Life is tough.
He is a great great kid. He looked sharp too despite average numbers. He is going to be helpful here in Utica

OT showed how much faster we are. They looked like they had a step a few times but just got tracked down by faster Canucks from behind.
They are are big and block a lot of shots and no 3 on 3 in playoffs so I get it doesn’t hurt once you are in the show. But they won’t beat us 3-3 without a lucky bounce.

We weren’t sharp and Edler is reading his own headlines after scoring a couple pp goals. Let Pete and Boeser shoot it for god sakes.
Great experience for Demko to step in and get these wins. He is streaky and when he is on forget it. We were just missing with passes maybe it was the bad ice. Hughes is good but a little nonchalant first half. Myers too. He fumbled it a few times. Ferland didn’t play much late but he was ok as was Virtanen except for a couple bad turnovers.
Motte is like Beagle. He just refuses to let you have him sit.
Great win keep it rolling boys. See you in the city this weekend.

Yep, Boucher is so amazing at this level, it is a wonder he can’t crack the NHL. He started last year like this until other teams started going after him and he got injured. Hope there is enough toughness on the team this year to act as a deterrent. Most exciting player to watch, though? I vote for Bailey - 6’4” 215 - ex Sabres draft - unbelievable skater - just needs to get some finish - 54 GP 15g 13a 28pts.
6-2 now for Comets - Arsenault scored - third assist for Goldobin.
Another Bailey fan here. He is a sleeper pick. Couple years ago he scored on the Canucks in a close one I went to see. Caused us a lot of trouble in that game with his size and presence.

Green does seem to be getting the best from the team now. I think part of it is he gives everybody opportunities. I just noticed that every single skater got some powerplay time this game; I've never seen that before. And not just a few seconds: Ferland got 20 seconds on the PP, Tanev got 30, and every other skater got over 50 seconds PP time. The guys must like that.
Good catch.
Green would be be a good dog trainer. Do what I want you get rewarded. Don’t do what I want you’re in the dog house.

Green maxed out the last substituting advantage tonight. Beagle and Co held up their end so everybody else could attack.
Tanev looks like he is having fun. Sutter too. Playing much more freely. Don’t have to carry quite the load as in the past so they are much more dynamic offensively.
Leivo Boeser Ferland didn’t quite have it. Ready for Rousssel and Baer to come back. Not sold on Ben either.
Motte did what he does. Pretty good first outing. Loui must be going stir crazy although he has time to count his money now.
Good to see Biega do well out there. One of the more noticeable Detroit players. Hope he sticks w Red Wings and gets regular TOI.
Demko shaky at times but still good and got the result. Nobody panicked so team must be confident in him after first p, unfortunate goal. Depth.

Amazing to think we have Roussel, Motte, Erickson, Baer, Goldobin, Macewen, Boucher, Ferlander, Brisebois, waiting in the wings, and Demko to give Marky some rest. Still think a little more creativity on offense is needed so Baer should be back up, but the message is clear. No more pretty stuff even if the advanced stats say it is better. Fore check and hit or you're gone. We will worry about scoring later. The Edmonton and Calgary results were somewhat unjust really. Not saying we should have beaten Calgary but 3-0 did not reflect what happened on the ice that night.
Tanev from Quinn and Boeser was a stake right in the heart. Such a Travis Green play. Get the D up in the play, attack, pinch whenever you can, and challenge them at the blue line. Edler went back to WIlie D days on the second LA goal.
Hutton played pretty well for LA.
Jay Beagle just won't let you sit him down. He won some clutch PK face-offs when things could have started to go a little sideways.

Hope everyone had an awesome summer, I had the best one ever and it is a glorious 78 degree day here in God's country today. I went to both games this past weekend and glanced at half a dozen prior pages of comments. We have a LOT of talent this year but I am still a little nervous about our back end. Sifers/McEneny are reliable but you're not going to win the Cup if they are your best d men. Sautner looked better than ever on Saturday, Chatfield remains a bit of a mystery. Every once in awhile he puts on a burst or makes a play and you can see why someone will always want to take a chance on him. Graham? I am not a fan. The big issue is Juolevi, the third youngest guy on the team. Saturday night he was rock solid and boy oh boy he is miles ahead of everyone else on the ice when it comes to seeing the play. That puck isn't on his stick long before he zips a good pass to the open player. He will be fun to watch this year and if Canucks fans are patient he has a world of potential. But, as one famous coach said, "guys with potential get you fired." If he had a little more explosiveness in his skating (like Chatfield), or occasionally blasted someone with a hard check, he might be more impressive out there. But I think as he acclimates to the AHL he could become a real impact player.
Boucher was best player on the ice Friday night, Gaunce the best on the ice Saturday night. I thought Kole Lind, the youngest guy on the team (by 4 days over Gadjovich), looked very good physically, skill wise, just got caught a couple of times where he didn't belong. He is going to push some people during pre season eventually but not this year. After that? Who knows. An interesting prospect. Gaudette played well on Friday I thought. Full 200 foot game in him. Woods was helpful last year but was injured and out long term. Not too sure about that fight but between him and Archie and Macewen you have some ass on the ice.
Dahlen is very small. He is very skilled and shows up on the ice when you don't expect it. He will be fun to watch but he better eat a lot of chicken riggies while in Utica. Macewen is his usual hustling self. Big, strong and fast. Cant teach that.
Palmu is surprisingly effective out there. My god he is short but he doesn't get pushed around like Dahlen.
Kero and McMaster are ok didn't show a lot this weekend.
Would have been nice to see Ganger regularly but on the theory that he is closer to the end of his career than the beginning, he would just take up some space that a real prospect might use. Hope they can unload him this year.
With Demko back eventually the Comets could be a tough out again this year. See you at the Aud.

First time seeing Dahlen last night. Super slick player. Very smart. Needs a little more beef on his frame, thicken up a little and he will be a find.

The biggest cheer of the night, and the loudest all season, was after the 3-5 penalty kill at end of the first. Guys were diving all over the ice to make plays. Fantastic atmosphere in the first period. No Lucas Jasek last night and no Megna. But that is a small, fast lineup. Toronto is way bigger and tried to assert themselves in the first to no avail. They are very good though with a nice mix of players.
At the D end we might a bit shy of the mark for the Calder Cup but Sautner looked very confident out there. Time in Van did him some good. Chatfield really played hard last night too. His last month has been very good getting up the ice.

7 hours ago, stonecoldstevebernier said:Yeah, just the one I believe. He's not out there steamrolling people but he goes to the tough areas and doesn't shy away at all from mucking it up in the corners or in front of the net and like hobart said, he can be a real handful when he does that. Whereas Grenier always tried to be a playmaker/dangler and generally avoided the physical play... although strangely, Grenier fought fairly often. Maybe its just not MacEwen's thing.
Macewen doesn't get in fights because he is honest out there. He just grinds away with no extra curricular stick stuff, nothing late, no grabbing, no yammering. He is just moving his legs when he is playing well so the other team can't really complain. Unlike with Cassels who enjoys agitating.

Puts in the effort like Biega, but in a 6'3" 215 frame. Needs seasoning, but reminds me of a bigger Burrows without the cheap stuff. A real handful to play against. He is right where he belongs, especially with Archie, Boucher and Goldy up, and Megna, Bancks, Molino hurt.

big loss for the already deplete D. Hope he has a good outcome and rehab and comes back strong.
-
So true, and "slap stick antics" is inspired stuff.
-
smart move, he needs some more time in North American rinks as he was inconsistent, though showed flashes, this pre season. He will pass through waivers too, whats that tell you. He is still a project but I think he will get a call up and then we will see. So glad I will get t see him in Utica again. Just a joy to watch with the silky skating. AHL should allow him to get some confidence carrying the puck more.

I wondered if we could have another shot at Try since we have a new coaching staff and Green likes his d to pinch and join the rush. More fun for the D guys. Not sure if Try fits that style. He was kind of suited to Willy's back up and clog the middle D. And Travis Green is super blunt and doesn't cater to any players, so if Try is sensitive to criticism he wont get along with Green, and he just sent Goldy down and Pedan is soon to follow so no Russians.

Making Benning look smart tonight for sure. Now get him a cheeseburger. I mean Pettersen not Benning for the cheeseburger.

Didn't see that coming. He was unhappy with his ice time. Someone needs to tell him his ice time was going straight up over the next couple of years.
-
Willie took a shot at Goldobin today? Said he needs to up the effort?
Please send him for some Greening we need him down on the farm.
