This isn't on the talent or chemistry of the roster. It's on a coaching staff that is playing a grinding 'not to lose' style incompatible with the personnel, despite being given the most talented team since the start of the GMs 8 year tenure.

Imho, player execution is equally responsible for our slow start, maybe God forbid, more than our coach's systems. All teams have system and structure, how radically different can our system be from  other teams?

Why would our players struggle to play the system? Not executing on the ice.

Take a pass, make a bloody pass, place a subtle pick, get below your man in D zone, &^@#ing hit the net with your shot

    Go canucks go

It's normal for conversations to trail off a bit onto the topic of other players. It drives me nuts when a user feels the need to point that out. As if the only words to be spoken in this thread are "danila klimovich".

It drives you nuts??? OK then

There are a lot of things that go into scoring, including controlling the wall and the front of the net, two things that we don’t do worth a damn. We can’t forecheck effectively - which is why we try to carry the puck in on the pp, even when our penalty killing opponent strings all four defenders across the line. When we dump the puck in, we are unable to get it back. In our own zone we are running around all the time because we scarcely win an individual battle. These skills are strengths of both Gadjovich and MacEwen. Gadjovich has scarcely been given a chance to play by Green.

MacEwen, like Bailey now, had been schooled by Cull in the pk, but Green never used him there. Gadjovich still carries a reputation as a poor skater, an issue he has cured over the past two years, and which made him effective in the AHL. Considering the other things he does, he is a low/average NHL skater. But he is a very effective board player in all zones, and he is very effective player within thirty to forty feet of the net. Puck capture and recovery is the Canucks greatest weakness right now. A lot of that is coaching and system, but plenty of that weakness is caused by not having players that are effective in those areas and in placing no value on players that are. After Miller and Horvat, in the continued absence of Motte and Sutter, who among our forwards is effective at retrieving pucks? There is nothing wrong with MacEwen’s skating and it has never been a knock on him:

Here is the Elite Prospects scouting report on MacEwen: “A hard-nosed power forward that doesn't do any one thing to a particularly outstanding degree, but does the little things right. He skates well, albeit not with the balance or agility of an elite skater. He has a nose for the net and a quick release on his shot. Defensively active and backchecks hard. Wins a majority of his puck battles, but has to be a bit more consistent in his physical assertion. Must work on his vision, on-ice awareness, and passing as he continues to grow and become more confident. Lots of positive signs in his development and is starting to put the pieces together for a solid career. (Curtis Joe, EP 2017)”

Sometimes I wonder if our guys are suffering from what they call post-Covid syndrome.

There’s a general lethargy and/or a lack of mental sharpness, that can be hard to shake. It is said to take, 6 months to a year, for high-performance athletes…like a post-concussion syndrome, I kid you not. Can any medical personnel out there verify this rumour? I presume every case is different but…

how about we are being outplayed every shift

We dont have a hard forechecking system yet we give up odd man rushes like no tomorrow, bizarre.  5 guys back in the neutral zone defending the 1-0 deficit.  That's totally systems play.

ummm the Coilers have us penned in our dzone

Same can be said the other way. You’re pretty good at it yourself

Good statement, wallst, KingH and you know.... they hate cause they can, they've pick coaching as their enemies and use every post to name call and bash.

If it was constructive criticism I'm all for it, but name calling? Childish beyond belief

But endless bashing, name calling, accusations of sabotaging rookies, etc, is what makes them happy apparently.

    Go Canucks go

And if you watched it the guy let in two trash goals lol.

We act as if guys like Cheech never make wild picks for stars of the game lol.

Edit: arguably 3 bad goals. All 3 went right through him (1 went above him but a beer league goalie could have made the save).

Your right, we are all wrong. Thank you for correcting us with your OPINION

A beer league goalie could have done better?
