    did he have a choice?

I thought teams could sell contracts/players if they chose to?

I'm pretty sure he did. The transfer system in European football is quite a bit different than in US sports. Players do have the choice where to go. Teams can't force a player to transfer to a specific team, even if it's the highest bidder.

I think that would be the case for transfers out of the MLS to Europe as well.

Would Bayern not worry about Davies playing his games here on turf though?

Well, yes and no. But these kinds of transfers happen all the time in football. Tough luck if it happens. But I think they'd rather have him playing than not. Playing time is key at his age. Turf or not.

Way to over-interpret a 20 year old transfer. There are a literally dozens of flops and positive surprises between Hargreaves and now who give a better indicator.

It's done. Interesting to note that Davies will be allowed to play out the season here:

Too bad he chose the dark side...

Should still be eligible for Bayerns youth team. Think he's going to play there until summer but train with the first team. Should ease his transition.

Hard to say. It may be part of the negotiation. But I’m not sure VWFC should play him even if they can. Bayern could probably void any transfer if Davies got injured. Wouldn’t be official until he’s 18.

That kind of contract would be quite unusual. Don't think Davies will play a lot of games in the beginning. So I doubt Bayern would worry about that too much. They will want him to play as many games as possible.

  5. I think the problem here is mostly his contract, which runs out at the end of this year. It's the choice between 12m now or nothing next year. Price would probably be a lot higher if he had a longer contract.

Haven't seen a lot of him, but it would probably benefit his development if he stayed at least another year in the MLS and then look for a upper-mid table European side to set foot in Europe.

Wow headed to Bayern Munich for 12 million US.

Wonder if they would loan him to Borussia Dortmund to play with Pulisic?

Could be great for his development. Dortmund has a reputation of providing a good developing place for young players.

That wouldn't make any sense for us.  Thankfully, we are not in the position anymore where we have to develop players for one of our biggest rivals.

Hearing we're considering an offer ourselves. Though Bayern is the favourite to sign him according to German media. Don't think a move would be the right thing for him now as both Dortmund and Bayern are pretty stacked with wingers.

I'd like to see him at Dortmund but I'd welcome a bidding war for purely financial reasons. The English in particular tend to look down on the Scottish leagues and offer lower fees as a result. The overall standard isn't great obviously, but after the success of Van Dijk and Wanyama in recent years you'd think they'd change their tune a little bit. At least Celtic instill a winning mentality with the constant pressure to win.

Oh. Believe me. I understand.

Something between €17 million to €20 million would probably get it done, plus a 10% cut of the sell-on fee.

It would be higher but for a very frustrating stop start season with injuries. He was outstanding his first season with us. Holds the ball up really well, can finish and has a natural confidence about him. Can't believe we got him for half a million.

That would probably be doable for us. Bit surprised actually about the sum. Especially if you consider the prices those kinds of players go for these days when the EPL is involved.

Wacken is brilliant.   Nostalgia bands like Nazareth and JP and massive acts like Arch Enemy and then lots in between.    If weather is good, which is usually is, more beer sold per square metre than Octoberfest!

Will be my second time after 2015. Another great thing about Wacken is you hardly ever have to worry leaving something valuable inside your tent. Some other festivals in Europe where you can't do that. Can't remember any fights there despite so much alcohol.

    Super friendly people.

Will do.   Mark is very good live....I am a massive AlterBridge fan too and have seen them on both sides of the pond many times.   Funny thing, I never really got into Creed.

Will get to see him in 6 weeks at Wacken Open Air. If I'm not too drunk to make it to the stage in time, that is.

Maybe it's a young player quota? They already have Werner and more than enough attacking talent.

Was surprised Alvaro Morata didn't make Spain. He is a goal poacher like Thomas Muller but as a center forward. Seems to play well in big matches.

I suppose they like what they have in Asensio and Costa and Isco etc attacking wise already.

What's the deal with Benzema being left off France again. Still good enough to play for Real Madrid but not enough for Les Bleus?

I like how Brazil is positioned offensively. Neymar finally has some attacking support from Coutinho,Firmino, and Gabriel Jesus, not to mention the blistering pace of Douglas Costa off the wings and the all round ability of Fred in support of Coutinho.

I am still not sure if they can hold up defensively.

Felipe Luis and Thiago Silva would a solid CB defensive pair but one without much pace at their age to close down space and  help in transition.

Alex Sandro curiously not selected but Danilo and Miranda were.

Will be interested in Tites starting squad.

Nothing to do with young players. Löw told the press Sané had not found his place in the team yet. Weird explanation. But if you watch a couple of games of the national team you can understand where he's coming from. At City he has the role of receive ball, accelerate, run over/around/through defender, shoot/pass in box. That role is not there in Löw's system. And Löw's system is the most important thing for Löw. Has always been that way since he took over with Klinsmann in 2004.

Benzema I think tried to blackmail a team mate a few years ago? Not 100% sure though.

    @Lateralus91 Scotuing report on Sokratis?

Very stoic, tough as nails defender. Probably will fit in better in England because of that. Bundesliga refs tend to award more free kicks than their English counterparts imho. Also quite an underdog fan favourite for that same reason. On the other hand he's not very vocal on the pitch. Our officials were expecting leadership qualities from him, which he definitely is not the person to do that. I think they realized that by now.

Pretty quick for a CB, although he has slowed down a bit this season. But he needs a good ball playing defender at his side, preferably with very good positional play. Sokratis can be very shaky and a bit over agressive in his positional play. Likes to attack the opponent rather than wait for support which can result in awful situations if he doesn't win the ball. His build up still leaves much to be desired but got a bit better the last 1.5 seasons or so. Hence the suggestion of a good ball playing defender at his side.

Was quite good when paired with Hummels because Hummels has those qualities Sokratis is lacking. Plus that was mostly under Tuchel who found ways to take those build up duties away from Sokratis and assign them to other players.

I'm happy to get rid of him. Not because he's inherently a bad player. But I just don't like his style of football. I'd rather we had kept Bartra instead of him cause he's a way better football player. But there are probably enough people in Dortmund of the opposite opinion.

The fee (allegedly 18-19m €) is probably fair. The contract you guys want to give him (4yrs, 10m € I heard) is too expensive imho.

  13. Karius was diagnosed with a concussion. Wonder in which situation that occured.

Ramos just should not be in football.

Where is the World Cup thread?

Nobody else is excited? So what there is no Italy or Netherlands...:P

Still have heavyweights like Germany, France,Brazil,Argentina, Spain,Portugal,Belgium, and England.

Those 8 vs the field who you got?

Yeah, usual suspects really. Maybe Russia can surprise at home. France and Spain the big favourites for me.

Any thoughts on the omission of Leroy Sané? Was fun to follow the press on this.

German press: Ok. A little weird, but understandable.

British press: What the hell? One of the best players of the league not on the roster? U mad bro? ::D

Sergio Ramos making a mockery of the sport all match long, all while saving the match on multiple occasions for Real Madrid.

    Vintage Ramos.

    Right before Karius first blunder.

I can't even begin to describe what I feel towards Ramos. People like him shouldn't be in football.

Can't wait for VAR in Champions League.

There was one play in the first where Sweden was on the PP and EP made a bit of a risk move in his own zone when he was last man back. That could have got him in a bit of trouble with a coach that isn't in love with him as much as EP's Vaxjo coach.

3 PKs in the 2nd will have played a role as well
