Scatchard was an underrated beauty! Talk about a blast from the past. We gave up on him way too early. In the seasons after we traded him to NYI he popped in 21 goals and 27 goals while fighting anyone who messed with his teammates. I like Madden’s feistiness. Fighting’s obliviously not nearly as necessary in today’s game, but grit still is, and I think when Madden physically matures he can add that element to our team, as well as skill.

That’s a solid list. Very close to what I had as well. After watching Hughes fitting right in at the World Championship I moved Hughes into the 3rd spot ahead of Zadina. Also, I love that you had Miller in your top 20. I definitely would’ve picked him in the top 20. I think he has an insane amount of raw talent and that with his swag personality and confidence on the ice that he’s going to shine in NYC.

So you’re saying that you hope he has better feet than Foote... sorry that’s my dad joke for the day lol

I really like Woo’s game. If there’s one word to sum it up it would be “Solid”. He’s obviously physically solid, laying hits effectively and often, but he also often makes the solid plays such as clean outlet passes. I really think he could be an ideal defense partner for Hughes as his game can compliment Hughes’ game; he can skate well enough to hang with Hughes, he can go into the corners and come out with the puck more times than not, and he has crisp passes. Woo’s subtle game (although there’s nothing subtle about his explosive hits lol) can work well with Hughe’s flashy game.

Just finished watching the game (it’s so awesome to have this level of hockey in the middle of summer). Quinn was unbelievably entertaining to watch! He completely steals the show every shift. I can’t wait to eventually watch the magic that he and Pettersson are going to conjure up!

I would’ve loved to have watched Hughes with the big club this year (although he probably will play the last handful of games this season... fingers crossed). Nonetheless I’m a little relieved by his decision because I want to see what Juloevi brings in camp, and I also think that Pouliot and Hutton are both too young to give up on quite yet. I might get flamed for saying this, but I think there’s a decent chance that Hutton has a bounce back year. Apparently he’s training like a beast and is hungry for redemption. Knowing that Hughes is waiting in the wings, Hutton and Pouliot will be motivated to bring their A games. This year should determine which of the two (if either) is a contender and which is a pretender lol

I was listening to NHL network on Sirius radio today and they were talking about Woo potentially playing on Hughes’ right side one day if all goes well. If Woo can become what we all hope he can, that could be a deadly pairing. Woo using his speed to close in on an attacker, then blowing him up with a hit. Woo retrieves the puck and feeds Hughes who uses his edges and dangles to make everyone look like pylons. Ahhh, one can dream lol

Oh I totally hear you. I’m so sick of being a bottom feeder. Now that we’ve got a probable #1 defensemen in Hughes and a probable #1 Center in Pettersson, lets start winning again. While I’m dreaming though I might as well dream big; how about we win the cup but still manage to draft first overall by trading Tanev or whoever to a contender in the offseason for their first rounder which isn’t lottery protected. Then they flop and we win the lottery lol!

Listening to this interview with Jack and Luke Hughes, towards the end of it the reporter asks what Jack thinks about playing against his brother in the NHL on day, and Jack replies saying that his “preference is to play with him.” Oh please hockey gods allow that to happen. If we’re draft high again, but not first overall, I say offer them every pick we have in that draft and even sweeten the pot if we have to reunite two great brothers in Vancouver again.

He wins puck battles and makes great reads in the defensive zone, making him difficult to play against. Despite his reputation for throwing big hits, Woo avoids penalties, with just 33 penalty minutes last season. To top it all off, his name is Jett Woo. Jett Woo, people. His name alone should move up up five spots on your draft list. Why he might fall: Woo is already just a borderline first-rounder. The various draft rankings are widely split on where he belongs, from 21 in The Hockey News all the way down to 66 according to International Scouting Services. That’s right: ISS doesn’t just think Woo isn’t a first-rounder, but suggests he shouldn’t even be a second-rounder. Some scouts question his hockey sense and whether he’ll be able to make decisions quickly enough at the pro level. An even bigger concern might be whether he can stay healthy enough to continue playing his physical brand of hockey against bigger players. His season was plagued with injuries, from a separated shoulder to a strained oblique muscle. Why the Canucks should pick him: If the Canucks get a point-producing offensive defenceman with the seventh overall pick, grabbing a steady, physical defensive defenceman in the second round would make a lot of sense, particularly since Woo can still skate well and move the puck. Also, Woo may have some untapped offensive upside: on a deep Moose Jaw Warriors team, Woo didn’t get a lot of offensive opportunities. He’s also on the younger side of the draft, as he doesn’t turn 18 until late July.

This kid is underrated hilarious. He’s going to provide even more entertaining interviews than Bieksa!

I remember watching the world juniors two years ago and being so excited to see Rasmus Dahlin play, only to annoyed because the coaching staff hardly played him. And to make matters worse this Ottawa prospect with the same sounding name (Dahlen of course) absolutely dominated and seemed to be everywhere on the ice at all times while Rasmus spent far too much time warming the bench hahaha! Even though I was childishly bitter with Dahlen at the time for no fault of his own, I remember thinking how exceptional his work effort was and how his game would likely translate nicely into the NHL. Needless to say, when we traded Burrows for him I was ecstatic. I really think this kid is one of our top prospects and will be a solid NHLer soon. Now if we can only land Dahlin as well, I’ll look back at that world juniors with such ironic retrospect lol.

I love the honesty of this kid. Check out this excerpt from a Hockey News article written a couple days ago: Pettersson is, of course, aware of the hype. Though many players claim they don’t look at social media, he admitted he’s not above the pleasures of Twitter and all the yearning Vancouver fans have toward him. “When I have nothing to do, I like to see what they’re thinking about me,” he said. “I’m excited that they are excited about me.” Even though he’s referring to Twitter, I’m sure he takes a peak on here from time to time. Neat to think that possibly our positive words and excitement might give him a little extra motivation. Absolutely. Many people were actually doubted Boeser was going to make the Canucks this year as well, despite showing so well in the final nine games of last year. I vividly recall reading at least a handful of posts with fans saying he was going to spend the year in AHL before being a regular. I think many Canucks fans have become jaded by being disappointed so many times over the years (or maybe Elliot Friedman was right and there’s just a ton of negative people in this area). It’s understandable to be jaded in my mind, but if this year has taught us anything with the emergence of Boeser, it’s that we can indeed get lucky sometimes and land a gem. And we all should have every reason to believe that Pettersson is a gem as well. I’m going to make some people sick with my optimism here lol, but I truly believe we might just be transitioning into the greatest era of Canucks history ;-)

Another amazing game by Elias! He laid hits, back checked with tenacity, and created so much offensively. And my goodness what a shot! It’s not even going to be fair next year when we have him on one wing on the power play and Boesser on the other! He seemed to be kind of a pest to the Americans as well. I noticed them honing in on him physically, even after the whistles. I like it! He kind of plays like a Fin but with Swedish skill. It’s hilarious that Nylander (the selfish player where the power play goes to die) got named one of the three top players for Sweden over Pettersson. There might be some sort of old boys club going on with the management of that team. I really like that Ferraro made a joke about his amazement that Pettersson didn’t make the top three.
