Well, I know nothing about Simashev. Haven't seen too much Reinbacher either. The others I've seen all quite a bit.

Apologies because I know you're a ASP fan, but from what I have seen and heard, basically everything people want Sandin-Pellikka to be, Gulyayev actually is.

Be a good year to develop a draft board

What do we pay em for though? Regardless of our track record with prospects, there is only one way to change that. I think organizationally we need to turn that corner.  I'd like to see Silvos Hog's, Pod, Wolly and the rest go on a nice run here in the playoffs lets start changing that reputation now.

Already been established. I think it is a 300 grand buyout. Someone can correct me.

After the draft lottery, assume we finish with our 5th pick and NYI's 14th.

Would you trade them together for the 3rd overall pick?

It would be tempting but I think you are overspending for the third. Depends on the pick valuation and who you are selecting.

I ditto @Ilunga I'm curious of your commentary re Swiss pro league as a dev program good or bad. We have seen quite a few very good players translate from there recently.

Sure, but it has nothing to do with the actual pro league itself. It comes down to coaching in the youth ranks and their emphasis on the game and systems instead of skills or the basics.  Swiss prospects tend to come out more behind in development if they stay in Switzerland instead of jumping to the shl, chl etc. I keep thinking that to get good competition for them and actually improve the league itself is that they go the usdp route.

Welcome to the team. I'm with you too I'm on the fence but like...... The building blocks are there. We can control his dev in the AHL. I've described him as a shrinking violet before buuuuuuuut I don't get the feeling he will go the way of Olli Juolevi. I've seen him compared to Shea Theodore  and by yourself Dobson and honsetly I don't think those are outlandish comparisons. Do I think we left the best player on the table if we take him ......? Yes probably.... But this isn't a Tkachuk situation where we miss on a guy we have needed for like ever! We might miss on a PPG finesse winger. If we are reaching for a Barlow/Moore we may as well take Rein.

It would be closer to dobson then Theodore. His gap control and how he controls his stick in the defensive zone is superb, but he has worts like you or I said. But it worries the hell out of me when we go for need. Just hoping smith or Benson don't hit if we go this route.

40 NHL scouts watched defensive prospect David Reinbacher (RHD) in yesterdays game against the top team EHC Biel. Unfortunately Biel, currently ranked second in the league lost it's home game against a bottom feeder team on Sunday and bounced back in yesterday's game against Reinbacher's team. EHC Biel brought their A-game and had a 5:0 lead after the first period. Was one of the most brutal first periods for EHC Kloten.

10 NHL scouts watched Reinbacher in November 2023. and now we're at 40 scouts in February 2023. That demonstrates that he has drawn significant interest from lot's of NHL teams over the last couple of months.

one a side note I would like to mention that Reinbacher as a 18 year old is the only D-Man on the team with a positive +/-. That's quite impressive although it's just one stat amongst many other stats. A positive +/-  as a top pairing D on a weak team is IMO more impressive than a positive +/- for a defensive prospect playing for a team that's currently sitting on the top of the standings in the SHL.  I don't like to take anything away from what Axel-Sandin Pelikka has achieved so far.

While I am not the biggest fan of reinbacher, I do think we might have to take him in the five to seven range cuz he won't be there if we get the isles second. The market for rhd is like lhp in baseball. Absolutely bonkers, even for average players.

How good is he at playing Defence ?

I see he is ranked in the 120ish area NA skaters.

If he can play D he is definitely worth a flyer on in the 6th or 7th round.

Love how you keep pulling these kids outa your hat.

He has good gap control and positioning. He can play with a bit of an edge and is not afraid of getting his nose dirty. I love his shot. Yeah, he is definitely worth taking a flyer on.

Nice good call.  Wow what a meteoric rise. Looks like he lost some weight and exploded this year. Wonder if he can skate. 5g 2a in 4 games at the WJAC is pretty spiffy. Leading all D in the USHL.

Yeah, he is not bad still needs a bit of work on the skating, but the stride has improved alot. I like that he committed to Bemidji.

I think this is it. If you don't draft em you won't get em. It sucks when one doesn't work out but that doesn't mean you stop drafting them. It means you can't put all your eggs in one basket and instead make like LA and fill your pipe with em.

Beauvellier is working out great and he was a toss-in for cap reasons. We can find wingers on the market. Heck Brock's career 0.8PPG even this year he's 0.75 can't flippin give him away. Garland was top 30 in the league last year in 5v5 production 7th in penalties drawn differential. We are discussing buyout.

Not gonna hold my breath on Livingstone but I'd be very happy if we got him. Get him or not I don't think it changes anything. The house that Benning built has no foundation. We need to pour some concrete before we discuss finishings. As much as I like Benson Smith we can get those guys in 2025. We aren't ready to be adding those players right now.

I like Simashev, Reinbacher, If we could convince the Blues to trade us their 9th and one of their late 1sts to move up to 5/6 that would be ideal.

    9th Reinbacher/Simashev

    14th Ritchie/Danielson

27th/29th Hrabal time to get a G cooking deffer to Ian

    37th Bonk/Akey/Strbak/Minnitian

Fingers crossed Lekkerimaki turns into a top 6 scorer and we can forget about passing up Benson Smith.

Keep an eye out on Eric pohlkamp. Wjac all star who is putting up some numbers good numbers for an rhd in cedar rapids.

  10. On reinbacher. I think people got to lower the expectations a bit. He really isn't josi or he isn't a physical freak like a Hedman or a seider.  A good comparable for him if he absolutely hits is a Noah dobson.

What he does well is defence. Reinbacher uses his size and hockey iq well in this category in that he knows how to close the gap very well. He just seems to look big and it kind of intimidates forwards to keep to the outside. He doesn't hit, but like dobson, he uses his stick superbly, in checking opposing players, often making them looking foolish by breaking up the passing lane or just taking the puck away.

However, one of my biggest gripes is he is not good along the boards yet in puck battles. Teams generally exploit this on him alot in kloten in that they dump the puck into his corner knowing full well that they can take advantage of him physically and generally win the puck battles. This can be fixed, but he will need to put on more  size.

Another good thing about him though is his outlet passes on the transition. He is going to give teams nightmares and our forwards quite a few odd man  rushes.

One thing I would like to see more though, is taking the puck out of the dzone himself more. He doesn't show enough of that cuz he could be quite exceptional if he did.

Anyways just some info on what you are getting. Anymore questions just ask.

No. Maybe Reinbacher makes a late season push, but if you look at the most trusted scouting outlets (because they're in regular discussion with real NHL scouts), Bob McKenzie, Sportsnet, THN, they have Barlow respectively 8, 8, and 9, while they have Reinbacher 20, 11, and 15.

So I guess not that far off actually, but not just as much. Personally I'd definitely take Barlow over Reinbacher from what I've seen of them. Love the way he plays.

It's is gonna be tough. The whc is gonna be big for Rein and right now, I can see our management group surprising alot of people by picking Barlow cuz of our history.

I hope you're right. I'm by no means saying I have him at 5 or even the best D on my board I have him around 9 which puts him in no man's land. If our scouts decide to shoot their shot I'd support it because there are a bunch of great other targets for the 14th pick.

I'd rather come away with Rein + Danielsson than Benson + Cristall

Will talk about rein tomorrow. I do have some problems with him and the swisssystem in general.

Wouldn't that be as much of a reach as reinbacher though?

I think we can get reinbacher with our second first. I tend not to trust pronman or cosentino cuz they do a flavour of the month ranking.  Unless he moves higher on Bob's ranking, we don't use our top 6.

It was I. I still prefer Simashev and think he will be the best D in the draft. Highest floor vs higher ceiling with a right shot though. My eyes tell me Simashev is better. But how many more years are we gonna wait to get a RHD in the system?

I would go with you on that. As for rhd, livingstone will help plus I like the 2024 class better. I like your bonk idea for our rhd. The more I watch, the more I like
