I don’t think he’s there for us at 11
You’re probably right unfortunately. Nonetheless if we’re going RHD then ASP would be a solid consolation prize. He looked so good at the U18’s and that’s not just because Button couldn’t stop gushing about him lol.

Wouldn’t the Caps take Michkov? Russian connection. Next great Russian. All that PR stuff. Plus, the kid is a great player.
Absolutely. I don’t see anyway he gets past the caps. I can’t believe they were only five point out of a playoff spot and then sold key players to tank this year. It’s looking like a pretty smart move right about now, and will look genius if they manage to land Michkov.
True story; when they sold at the deadline I told my bud that I thought they were tanking for Michkov. I really hope that doesn’t work out for them lol

My opinion is smaller guys are the really mispriced commodity. The NHL is getting smaller, faster, more skilled. A guy like Benson is an elite talent who gets punished because hes short. Look at so many of the huge steals in recent history - DeBrincat, Caufield, Point, etc. all small guys with elite talent who got passed over because "muhhh small".
I don’t know, from watching him closely in a handful of games at the U18 tourney, his ceiling looks sky high to me. The guy was absolutely lights out; great compete level in both O zone and D zone, a solid shot, slick hands, and his IQ seemed good to me too.

I’m excited to see Reinbacher at the WC. I hope he plays well, but the problem is that if he plays too well then he won’t be there at 11 lol

Just curious if you could rank these players in highest ceilings, how would you rank them
Dvorsky
Sandin Pellikka
Sale
Stennberg
Danielson
I would go:
Dvorsky
Sandin Pellikka
Sale
Danielsson
Stennberg

This mock draft seems a little out to lunch IMO. They have Moore at 6 (he might still crack the top ten, but I definitely don’t see him being selected as early as sixth).
And they have us selecting Cristall when Dvorsky and Reinbacher are still on the board.
I feel like whoever put together this mock draft forgot to watch the U18 tournament lol

The audit at the end of this new mock draft makes for a fascinating read:
https://theathletic.com/4500204/2023/05/08/nhl-mock-draft-2023-connor-bedard-blackhawks/?amp=1
By the sounds of it Benson might just be there when we pick. Also, at least one scout said “There’s little chance (Michkov) goes in the top 10 picks”
There’s no world where I could possibly see him not being selected by the capitals, but if he did miraculously fall to us that could be the biggest draft day steal since Bure.
-
My gut is telling me that we’re drafting either ASP or Moore.
This is such a stacked draft though that I’d personally be more than happy with about 15 of the top players in the rankings. The only guys I’m wary of are Cristall and Perreault.
Even though Hoznek and Willander are further down in the rankings on most boards, I would be happy with either of them too.

Not a bad list at all...
I would say that Montreal might want to take someone that can help sooner rather then later.
Even though Philly is starving for centers, I can see them taking someone like Reinbacher, and if not Philly then Detroit.
I can't shake the feeling that St Louis will take one of the US National Development players or a player from the CHL. If you look at their draft history, they tend to favour the North American junior leagues.
It's really sad what's all happened with Michkov, but I see him dropping all the way to Washington or Detroit.
I'm curious if we see an Arizona trade. They have the 6th and 12th overall pick.
Montreal has 5th and 17th (17th could slip much further if Florida beats Toronto).
If you're Anaheim, do you take 6th and 12th?
If you're Columbus, do you take 6th and 12th?
Great post. I agree with basically all of it.
In regards to the your questions at the end, usually I would say no, neither team to should make that trade, as IMO it is all about quality over quantity and the team that lands the best player in any given trade is the team that wins the trade. However, if I’m Columbus I do think I wouldn’t make that trade. As good as Carlsson looks, walking away with Leonard and ASP for example would be just too sweet to pass on (Reinbacher and Danielsson, or Dvorsky and Sale, etc etc). Man the coyotes can really expedite their rebuild this draft!

A comparable I've seen for Sale is Matt Boldy. Somebody who is good at everything and teeders on the line of elite production. He would provide a significant boost to any team's offensive corps. He would make a good pick for just about any team that drafts him.
Oh wow, I like that comparison. I’m big Boldy fan and with that comparison I’ve now officially bought a ticket to get a seat on the Sale bandwagon lol.
I’ve only ever seen him play twice, both times at the U18’s but I really liked what I saw.

I got a feeling it's going to be like the 2018 draft. Alvin will be the one ecstatic that an elite player dropped to us. Remember how excited Benning was when Hughes dropped in our laps, that's the feeling I'm getting with this draft.
I literally cried tears of joy when Hughes miraculously fell to us. Lol. I needed to tell someone about the grand larceny we had just pulled off and so I called my wife at work but I was so excited that I couldn’t even articulate complete sentences lol.
I have a feeling that Benson is the one player that could miraculously drop to us this year. If he does that’ll be another highway robbery for us.
PS During the 2019 draft when it was our turn to pick I thought we were going to pull off another massive heist and nab Matthew Boldy. I was on the edge of my seat, getting ready to go nuts, but they regrettably passed on what I strongly believed would’ve been an amazing winger for Pettersson. I really like Podkolzin, but I fear that he will never be quite the impact player that Boldy has already become.

Wood shot up in the draft rankings before the u18 tourney, he looked like cemented his spot in the top 10 as an elite power forward. Todd Bertuzzi's are rare and hard to come by. I think Dvorsky, Wood, and Pellikka will push Benson out of the top 10. Benson had fallen to 8th before the u18 tourney in some mock drafts. I still think Cristall is the sleeper in the draft though.
Cristall is a sleeper alright… he slept right through the U18 tournament lol!

This article seems spot on. I feel the same way, that Willander took a big step forward, and Cristall took a big step back.

Reinbacher. Dvorsky, Pelikka, and Wood would be my selections, whoever is available in that order.
Surely at least 1 of them will be available…………
For me I would be ecstatic if we landed any one of Leonard, Dvorsky, Reinbacher, ASP, or Sale (in that order for me). The great thing is that there’s a decent likelihood that one or two of them will still be on the board when we make our pick.
PS I don’t see us picking him with the 11th pick, but I absolutely loved Willander’s game. He’s solid and skilled. If there’s anyway we can package our two third round picks to get him I would do that in a heartbeat.

According to this board the following people will be gone before our pick:
1. Bedard
2. Fantilli
3. Carlson
4.Mitchkov
5. Smith
6. Benson
7. Reinbacher
8. Leonard
9. Axel Sandin Pellika
10. Moore
11. Dvorsky
12. Danielson
13. Barlow
14. Sale
see what I’m getting at?
I listened to a Detroit podcast the other day with Tony Ferrari and they were very high on Moore and Danielson.
There description of Danielson made it seem like the perfect 3rd line RHC for the Canucksrealsitically it could come down to
-Dvorsky-Danielson
-Moore
-Reinbacher
This works for me! Dvorsky is incredibly entertaining to watch and I’d love it if we drafted him. However if he can finish up with a strong game against the Americans tomorrow then I’d be shocked if he didn’t go in the top ten.
I’m really hoping we can land either Reinbacher, Dvorsky or Leonard. All three fill Canucks needs; a big talented RHD, a skilled two way C, and an explosive Power Forward. Having said that, Danielson or Moore would be a solid consolation prize.

Brock Boeser eat your heart out. What a shot from Barlow.
I dunno kinda looked like interference on the Wood goal that was quite the accidental on purpose pick on the defender from Celebrini to give Wood all of the space. Count it!. Wood's having himself a good tournament.
Yeah Wood’s stock is soaring while Cristall’s must be plummeting. I love it!

Yeah pretty interesting prospect. I put him in that category of extremely skilled forwards who may have difficulty translating to higher levels. I mean he was already a 2 p/g player in about 20 games against NCAA DI teams this year, so at least he's more tested than a junior player. I said similar things about their pro translatability in Cole Perfetti's and Kent Johnson's draft years and I'm happy to admit they're both looking great. Just saying there is greater risk, so you have to balance the potential reward. The thing with Johnson and Perfetti and the same could be said of Perreault is, what they're doing works for them up to the point they've needed it to; they would skate into traffic or try to force a pretty pass a little more often than an NHL coach would like to see, but it has worked very well for them so far (again, 2 p/g for Perreault at the NCAA DI level), so who's to say how well they will adapt to different circumstances when they need to. I'd probably rank Perreault somewhere in the mid to late teens.
6 hours ago, Herberts Vasiljevs said:@HighOnHockey what's your opinion on Gabe Perreault. He's obviously smaller in size, but I can't help but find him to be one of the most intriguing offensive wingers in this draft. Not that I think he's a Nucks candidate or anything, but I just wanted to know what your thoughts were.
Thanks!
It would be interesting if Detroit takes either Smith or Leonard with their earlier first rounder and then Perrreault with their later first rounder. Those three players have amazing chemistry and I could see it being tempting to keep two of the three of them together. They likely won’t, but it would be neat.

Every time I have taken my son to games, and he tries to get autographs, Cristall has had such a prima donna attitude; like he's a superstar already or something. And, the rest of the players are his grunts, while fans are just peons. Huge character red flags in my opinion.
That is definitely very telling. We do not need a player like that.

If both ASP and Reinbacher go in the top ten, that will likely mean that a solid forward will fall to us.
Having said that, I would love it if we picked either of those defensemen.

(Rumour) Canucks Blackhawks at the draft
in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Posted · Edited by YearoftheNuck
It’s funny, the very first name that came to my mind when I heard this rumour was Willander. I think this guy would be the perfect target with the 19th pick.
There’s going to be so many good players to be had in the second round. Walking away with Willander and possibly Bonk or Minnetian for example could really help us shore up our lack of RHD depth.
PS I’m also a very big fan of Reinbacher and Dvorsky. I really like ASP too. I’d be very happy if we landed any of them with the 11th pick.
