Why do people think that if we trade guys we won't look to replace some of the skill sets they have...?

Trade Schenn..."Well we're never going to have another tough vet that can stick up for team mates".

Trade Miller... "Well, we'll never have another power forward, guess that's over".

    Like... What?

Nope, I am not one of those people. Despite hating to see him go, I am all for trading him. Like I mentioned in that post, I think we just try to either get him back in the off-season “or it at least some other serviceable muscle…”

I don’t think I’m being an irrational fan like it seems like you just made me out to be. Come on man, live up to your namesake and be a gent lol

It's a shame....if they get rid of our tough guys we're taking huge steps backwards....I know, I know "re-sign him later" but people also thought that we'd do that with Bo too.

Not only is "the future" dependent on what we get/acquire, it's also about the players in the here and now and how they feel. Luke and JT...the two who had Petey's back. That stuff's important too.

    Great points.

And if we happen to win the draft lottery then we better get Schenn back, or it at least some other serviceable muscle to help protect Bedard.

  3. Right shot, defensive D man Erik Johnson is out indefinitely. Of course Schenn is not the same caliber as Johnson, but he would provide a similar strong, stable veteran presence on the backend.

I wonder if this make the Avalanche consider him as a replacement?

I just took a peek and the Avalanche don’t have many picks in the next two drafts though (no 2nd or 3rd in 2023 or 2024) so I think they would have to offer us a decent prospect for Schenn.

No. Maybe Reinbacher makes a late season push, but if you look at the most trusted scouting outlets (because they're in regular discussion with real NHL scouts), Bob McKenzie, Sportsnet, THN, they have Barlow respectively 8, 8, and 9, while they have Reinbacher 20, 11, and 15.

So I guess not that far off actually, but not just as much. Personally I'd definitely take Barlow over Reinbacher from what I've seen of them. Love the way he plays.

Barlow is a straight up stud. He was so good at the top prospects game. I would be stoked if we got Barlow with our first first (lol) and Reinbacher with our second first. That combo would insert a lot of size into our prospect pool too.

I am ok with what you are saying, and only reacting to a ranking, where Reinbacher had moved up into the top 10, but i saying that, the final rankings are not complete, major scouting services have not completed their final rankings and won't until much later in the year.

I am reminder of McTavish and Seider who both were ranked further down the list until the final rankings, only to go much higher, in their final rankings. I am pretty sure this happens every year, so I caution everyone not to be too surprised when they change. (I remind myself too!)

Far too often we get focussed on a player too early in the process.

PS.........funny in both Mctavish and Seider, I started liking them before they moved up, and wanted Vancouver to take them, only to see them move past where our pick was, and we missed out. I get the same vibe off of Reinbacher.

I was in the exact same boat with you as McTavish and Seider. I remember some people busting my chops on here because I wanted us to target McTavish when he was still ranked much lower than our pick.

I definitely think Reinbacher will be this year’s Seider in the draft, and hopefully in his career arch too. I would love it if he managed to fall to our islanders pick. If we’re picking top six, I might even be tempted to take him over Benson, but not the rest of the players in that top bracket.

I’m so excited for this draft!

  6. If we can miraculously stay where we are, in fifth spot, that would be amazing as it would almost guarantee us either Smith or Benson.

It seems like there’s a big six in this year’s draft (Bedard, then Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov, followed by Benson and Smith) and if we could land any one of those six that could be a game changer for our franchise.

Of course there’s a ton of promising prospects outside of those six, but the way the rankings are shaping up, it’s truly beginning to look like a consensus top six, whereas the rankings for the players below them seems to vary considerably.

Yeah, this team has never recovered from not being able to draft Roland McKeown.

Lol true enough. Although, it’s not a matter of who they didn’t draft, it’s a matter of giving up second round picks in the first place for another team’s low impact players. Vey and Dermott were clearly never going to be home runs, yet a second round pick could be. Not the highest likelihood, but solid players are selected in the second round every year.

  8. Based on where we currently sit in the standings, this is my wish list for our first three picks in the draft:

    6th - Will Smith

13th - either Reinbacher or Sandin Pellikka

    38th - Aram Minnetian

It’s kind of cheating to have two names at the 13th spot there lol, but I’m truly torn between the two.

Someone posted in another thread that Hughes, in his last 13 games, has 18 points and is a plus 12. And our team has been bad, with horrid goaltending. Yet Hughes is amazing still.  I wonder if some of our fans really understand just how good Hughes is?

Absolutely! He is unbelievably good. He and Pettersson are next level talents that we should build around.

“There’s a lot of factors in play,” said Hankinson. “It’s ultimately a situation where I think Canucks management has to figure out, ‘this is a good return we could get’ and they’re almost crazy not to take it because the Canucks aren’t in the playoffs. They can trade him and get some value to help build and move in the direction they want to go."

“The ultimate possibility is he could re-sign with the Canucks next summer. He’s from Kelowna, he’s got a family out there, he loves it out there, and I think if you ask the players in the room, they don’t want to trade Luke Schenn."

The fact that his agent was saying this makes me think that this is a real possibility (trading him now and then signing him in summer).

They should definitely sign him again in the summer and offer him an A! He deserves to wear a letter.

  11. With the top ten picks likely being all forwards taken in this years draft, you can bet that a handful of the first picks in the second round will be defensemen. This hammers home just how badly we need to tank so that we can draft ahead of others and therefore still have some of these promising d men available to us when we make our second round selection.

Reinbacher might not even be the best rhd in the draft and hrabel might have something to say about best goaltender.i am ok with drafting reinbacher, but only in the 20s. You trade down and get some extra tickets.

This might be a loaded question, but if you don’t mind, in what order would you rank:

    Sandin Pellikka

    Reinbacher

    Dragicevic

    Bonk

    Wallinder

    Allen

I’m usually all for draft strictly BPA, however I feel like our franchise really needs to begin adding some high end RHD talent into our prospect pool and I’m hoping that they do so with either our NYI pick or our 2nd rounder.

Long story short, I’ve only watched half of these players and would love a little more insight into them or any other to RHD that I might’ve missed. Thank you

Hoglander has 9 points in 25 games and -4.
Podkolzin has 10 points in 49 games and -13.

Where are you getting these stats dude?

On a sidenote, when I went to Abby Canucks stats to fact check your whacky numbers, I noticed that Christian Wolanin was killing it down there… 46 points in 42 games! I thought he was great in the preseason and I was shocked when he didn’t make the cut. He might be a good option on the big club for next year.

At this point don’t they kinda need to ship out Miller if they wanna actually reset the leadership group?

If they try and make Petey captain Miller is still gonna be the “alpha dog” leader again and we’ll run into the same problems.

Only way to change the culture is to cut people out who were part of this leadership group.

    You nailed it

What if we win 2nd overall with our pick and our Islanders pick is around 14th to 18th overall.

Do we go with Fantilli and keep both picks, or do we trade our 2nd overall and our Islanders pick for Bedard?

Tough choice for a situation we'll never live through.

Hands down we trade the picks for Bedard, but I don’t think anyone would make that trade with us.
