Not sure what rankings you're going off of, but the two rankings that best reflect what NHL teams might be thinking are NHL Central Scouting and Bob McKenzie's scout survey. Obviously Bob McKenzie's is by far the best indicator because it is an actual survey of NHL scouts. NHL central scouting's stated intention is to support NHL teams, so they tend to value the things NHL teams value - size, pro-translatability, safe picks. Also, they have actual scouts who formerly worked for NHL teams, vs. the media scouting services and bloggers, which are lower quality scouting amateurs.

We'll see what Bob McKenzie's final rankings say, but his mid-season rankings had Beniers 4th, and Central's final rankings have Beniers 6th in North America, so I'm not sure where this idea comes from that Beniers is consensus number two.

Sorry some of the ones I was recalling were older some were mock but these I just looked at and they all had them above the others McKeen's final , draft analyst , the hockey writers and sportsnet . when is McKenzie's final coming out I thought he said it would be out early last week

  2. Powers , Beniers and Johnson having the three all play at U of Michigan will that skew how teams might look at each of these players one way or another . Keep recalling how OJ was talked about by many his draft year being on the powerhouse junior team and should have been a lower pick . I am an OJ fan and I am still hoping he gets a full summer in gets to where his talent level could be .

I expect anybody listed on most ranking Could go 3-9 in any order but 1&2 look like that would stay top 2 . Long winded is there any chance either Powers or Beniers start dropping and how far .  Still remember them showing Vilardi after every pick as he just kept dropping

  3. Problem with trading the pick this year is just about anybody worth trading for will be hard to keep under the cap . trading up I really would hate for the Canucks to use two top picks only move up a few places . I don't really like the idea of trading out of the top 9 but if it was still a top 12/13 pick and the Canucks  get back say another 2 rounder Baa would need a 4th rounder as well . OK I still don't like trading down either . So keep the pick Hopefully Hughes , Clarke .Johnson or McTavish are there

  4. reading all the comments about draft picks Busting . Hockey is based way more on projecting what a teenager will become as an adult as compared to the NBA and NFL who draft the majority of there players after collage/university .  So much goes into drafting these days as compared to in the 70's . when the europeans first started to get drafted I read one time that many of them had never been seen by the teams only . Scouting was done by statistics . I think DET drafted a prospect who had passed away before the draft .   Now you always hear about a players Floor vs his ceiling . Is he a good teammate , so much about how well he skates and thinks the game . I am sure some of the prospects that we think will go top ten could drop 4 or 6 spots .Seems to happen every year . remember Vilardi was rated 3td and the kings took him in the teens . we got Hughes and Podkolzin that way

I hated when JB traded the pick for Miller Not because I didn't want Miller just because it took the interest of that draft away for me .

  5. My friend is a Habs fan so I hope that now that they are in the Final they win . As a Canuck fan I want the Canucks to build a team that will compete year after year not "one&done " . Had that in the early 80's

A lot of things have gone right for the habs since the playoffs started . All lower talented teams that get this far need that and the best teams need to stay healthy most of all . I have No idea what happens to Vegas , they hit a good goalie and there forwards disappear ?

Question ,,would you rather win the Cup once [ knowing they will probably not win it again in your lifetime ] or have a top team that is one of the favorites. completes for it for the next dozen years . I am old now but I would still like to see a competing team every year that entertains me and hopefully wins one

  6. You're Nuts ...Nuts I tell you !!! I watched the first ever Canucks hockey game on a giant 21in color console TV at my uncles house and I have been waiting since that day to see a defenseman as talented as Quinn who can have me to the edge of my seat every time he touches the puck ! At his age he is only going to get Better and better and I for one want to watch him do it in a Canuck uniform . would love to see Dobson in a Canuck jersey someday but not for Quinn . Really hoping Rathbone is the real deal but how many games has he played ? Trading away the most exciting Defensemen the Canucks have ever had is Crazy .

  7. I would be Happy with any of the top prospects in this draft class if you count Wallstedt there are more than 9 top picks and if three teams ahead want Centers than a top D or a great winger should be available .

Have a hard time reading all the talk about trading the pick . OK if a great deal comes along to clear someone's cap space or to help out in the expansion daft sure , But to get rid of LE contract for one year after the last 5 years of having it makes no sense to me . He should be in Abbottsford showing all the young players you know all the Little things and penalty killing it takes to make the NHL . They say he has a great attitude maybe he can look towards coaching or something for after this season . Trading a top 9 pick for an already established 3third line center also makes no sense to me I would definitely want someone with more upside for it . just my thoughts

Why would Seattle take Holtby ? They have better options . I think we loose a youngster , Two players I would like to see added , Wennberg and Granlund at Center position and a third Rutta at D.

That was just a " what if " not that I think they will . I think the Canucks will probably lose " Lind " . but I hope not

Who are the guys most likely to be left for us at 9?

    Power is no chance.

    Beniers is no chance.

But after that, couldn’t any of these guys fall?

Edvinson, Clark, Eklund, McTavish, Hughes?  I’d be happy if we got any of these guys.

If all those guys are gone, and we are left with Johnson or Gunther I’d hope GMJB trades the pick.

Agree with Powers and Beniers also think Eklund is gone for sure . McTavish , second best center probably gone .Clark top RHD also probably gone [ I would like him as a Canuck ] . Have no idea where Gunther goes . Edvinson  seems to be all over the map when it comes to Rankings could be the steal if he drops . Johnson keeps getting compared to a young EP so that would be nice and Hughes with his injury and that fact the Jack didn't hit the ground and run away with the league and Quinn's  defensive troubles early this year might keep some GM's from making him there first choice . I would be Happy with any of them as well as Wallstedt  if he is considered their BPA

  11. RD or 3C but if Seattle takes Holtby than maybe a backup goalie . if Ian Clarke thinks MDP isn't ready yet ?

But any improvement would be good under the right circumstances , even though JB said he was going to be aggressive [ hopefully meaning 2 buyouts ] . heard somewhere that JB said he would only trade #1 pick if it involved a top player under the age of 24 . I think unless it is he can grab another deal like or better than the JT miller  deal .

I think It will be next year for any real big changes . I want to see more of what the young prospects they have now can do with a decent look . I am OK with signing Elder  1 year as long as OJ and Rathbone play hopefully one or both will take over Elders role as the year goes by .  Harmonic should get signed if the $ are right . Like to see Woo get a chance if he is ready for a look see as well . Hope they Keep JT Miller with EP and find a 3C line center this off season Just don't break the bank or trade away too much of the future to get it

How many months different? Watching how extremely mature he is in the interviews ive watched of him and the size already of a NHLer i see no reason why he doesnt get a good and educated look to make the team.

Reading you're guys discussion on McTavish have they changed the rules ? if the Canucks drafted him and he came to camp and showed real well couldn't they play him up to 10 games and than send him to Junior after that

  13. Love reading Mock Drafts on here and and elsewhere and comparing how close they are to what I think . the fun part and I do this all the time is the minute I read or do a mock draft I pretty much throw out BPA and go sometimes with team needs [ I don't follow any other team so I have no idea what they have in there pipelines ] But sometimes just who I want them to take . I know they are not supposed to just be a top 10 ranking but mine sometimes are nowhere near what I read elsewhere . Oh yeah I change mostly what I think about other teams needs based on things and articles I see on here .

I know some of you put a lot of work into yours . I don't just do it for fun and Have time off this week . so here goes

    1 Buff   powers

    2 Sea  Beniers

    3 Ana Edvinsson

    4 NJ  Guenther

    5 CBJ Clarke

    6 Det  Eklund

7 SJS Johnson hope either Det or SJS take Wallstedt instead

    8 LA  Hughes

9 Van hope somebody falls to the Canucks if not than McTavish

  14. If the 9th isn't traded I like any of the top 10 rated picks in most rankings hell I wouldn't jump off a bridge if they saw something in Raty that they thought they could Improve . Personally I want Clarke or Hughes most . McTavish seems to get the most attention on here but as probably the second best Center in the draft I think he will be gone before #9 , Is Ian Clarke more likely stay if they take Wallstedt ?  Demko DePietro and Wallstedt Lots to work with next few years . I do see a pretty good trade piece a few years from now with anyone of them and a sure fire starter for the next decade

  15. If Nolan Patrick wants a new start and they are willing to trade him of course it would be something to look at . Sure they would ask for Too much but the Canucks  need centers and if a new home turned things around for him [ Bryan Allen had a really bad time with injuries but ended up with a decent career yes lots of injuries but played 13 years in the NHL  . I would wait till after the ED and Seattle has picked a Canuck . really don't won't to lose both Lind and Gadjovich this summer not even sure I would trade either . Still hoping OJ keeps improving and becomes the player the Canucks drafted and I don't think anybody would trade for JV this summer but he does need a move if he Plays in the NHL . [ caution once he is away from his hometown he might become more of the player everybody expected . he did well when in Calgary and Utica ] So he would be the one I would look to trade . I really like JV as a player and am not trying to run him out of town just think it would be best for both and would like to give Nolan a  shot .

It will be interesting to see when TBL get round to Foote's contract. He has to be a prime target for an offer sheet.

Any team could offer $1.439m and TBL likely couldn't match that. They will be offering him close to $1m max. The offer sheet compensation would be....nothing.

And he also has to see the long line of Dmen ahead of him, all with NMC and NTC, which indicates that he is going to be nothing more than a bottom pairing guy for another 3 years at least. Maybe he would like a shot at a decent career and the opportunity to get paid for it...

Of course being on a contender is great, but if you aren't able to contribute to the success and you are on minimum wage, where is the personal reward?

Question...unless it is Florida Dallas or another No tax  state the offer sheet would have to be higher to equal his Net pay , No ?

I guess due to my lack of experience, I'm wondering which leagues produce inferior or over-valued prospects?

sorry It wasn't an meant as an insult and or maybe I misunderstand what you are asking . I just meant that what might be true one year may not be the next

  18. If recent past drafts are any indication on Draft day teams tend you go with the forwards over the d men in there tiers from what I've observed . I do see a very good chance the one of the LHD is still available at 9 [ Not Powers] and an outside chance of Clarke on the other hand I don't see either goalie going in the top down unless some trades down which hardly ever happens near the top of the daft on or near draft day anymore .
