No, not really. Although last game there were similar mechanics, though I don't remember the details of them now.

Okay. I don't believe that a game designer would put a pure RNG role into a game, wherein the role does not choose its targets or effects. That doesn't make sense to me. Is there someone you can say to reassure me?

Basically I get to choose a player and they get a gift (a one-off power). But it's random - players are unknown to me, identified only by letters (A, B, etc). Powers are also random (1, 2, etc). The mafia could be included among those recipients. It's possible the gift turns out to be nothing.

I randomly chose player B in R1 (it's a day role), and shortly into R2 lucky posted about receiving a contraband phone. Naturally I assumed he was player B, and he seems town to me, so I sent him another gift today.

Okay, that's what I thought. Do roles like this typically exist?

I try to force reads out of people, and if someone doesn’t explain fully, I want to be the guy to get an explanation.

That was a one time thing. If I play even remotely similar to that, it’s an easy lynch on me. It really just showed that gameplay and style varies from game to game, so there’s less value in drawing from past contests than most think

I want to be the guy to hold everyone accountable for what they do. Going back and reading the thread, thinking of other, less conventional ways to find scum (angleshooting is an example, the “a-ha!” moments are another), and forcing reads out of people.

I haven't been able to do that as much because of the personal stuff, but that’s what I strive towards.

I see, thank you for responding.

Regarding the middle, I suppose that means it would be in my best interest to completely disregard your prior post describing your previous scum game, and your claim that it being very different from here is a good look. Sounds good to me :)

Keep in mind that in my last scum game, my second one ever, I was incredibly thoughtful and had calculated risks with every post I made. Here, I didn’t even think about the vote count when I unvoted, or how the lynch would play out. I just knew I couldn’t vote for either of the candidates, and voting for anyone else that close to nightfall would look even worse.

You're a pretty new player. Can you describe yourself to me so I can better understand you? I just have a couple questions in that vein.

Do you think you've found a style that you're comfortable at this point? If so, what is it?

You mention that you had a good scum game last go around. What lessons did you learn that game that you think will help you be a better player in the future?

You talk about your scum game here  but not your town game. What's town you's MO?

    Thanks :)

    On falc,

There's a very good chance he's been pocketing me.

He is less aggressive and paranoid than usual, his posting is a lighter and slightly more cheerful as well.

Quite a lot of how I read players is how their words make me feel, impressions. His wording is positive, but I might have had the wool pulled over my eyes.

    Hollow and forced

I'm not sure. Sometimes I'll read and be left with a feeling of emptiness, but I'm not getting that vibe from falc.

    MR

    Z

    Stammer

    MH

    DM

-but to fair, I always read those two as scum. MH didn't bite on a little trap I set for him, but maybe it was just a poor attempt.

@DarthMelvin - you asked about the phone -

I went back into my pm with AV and prodded him for a more clear answer. The reality is, BJ didn't move at all in R1. Not towards anyone or anything.

If you want to be super paranoid I suppose you could tinfoil your way into believing BJ somehow knew there'd be a contraband phone, he'd be targeted in R1, so he didn't get involved in the maf pm. Would take a whole $&!#load of tinfoil though.

3 players have brought the validity of my claim into question - MR, toews and DM.

    Is there something there?

If you,  yourself,  have to double check the validity of your claim, does it stand to reason that a sane person, too, would want to follow up on it?

Well that's a disappointment. Lynched in round 1. Not sure how I let that happen, but part of the reason is that discussion seemed to die down close to nightfall and no serious cases had been built, so you guys sort of just let me die. This is kind of like what happened to Lewitelli last game. But last game it only happened once, and we won, so here's hoping the same thing happens this game. Good luck.

    DPS pls

Are bah posts an integral game mechanic or just sort of a thing?

It seems as tho you're saying that if you felt pressure, you'd play a different way.

I also find it odd you dont feel a target for a MK, which all true TP have to consider. Your confidence is a tad scummy

I have played a lot of werewolf, so I know lots of ways to play the game. Think of it as, say, playing basketball. You can play aggressively, you can play defensively. You can play fast, you can play slow. Any individual player can play in any number of ways, but each player has a way that is most their own -- a play in which they want to play the most.

I want to play slowly, with an eye for observation. This is one of my, say, three? Three or so most commons means of playing.
