I am sorry but if Calgary signed him for under 1 million that is a great deal??? I support Jim Benning and his mistakes at start and the very good moves he made in last 2 yrs, drafting 'B" grade!!!!

I am not happy about Leivo signing......

Leivo 6'2, 195,  - Really like the grit he plays with and he can play in top 6 with injuries and solid 3rd line guy...

So disappointed  we could not resign Leivo...I see him as 15 Goals -- 35 points - 13 mins -- 75 games... Very gritty solid 200 foot game..

Great signing Calgary flames...Big depth signing....

He shattered his kneecap there is a high probability he doesn't return to form next season. I like Leivo too buuut we're at 15 fwds without Hawrluk and Lind on the roster. and likely Hoglander and or Podkolzin being available towards the end of the season.  Sooo even if Ferland goes to LTIR and JB manages to offload 1 or both of Sutter Eriksson we still don't have room for Leivo.

Maybe Toffoli was asking for too high of a salary from the Canucks.  And when he got out there in free agency, he realized the market was soft so he took what he could get in Montreal.

His last salary last year was $4.8 on an AAV of $4.6

His salary in Montreal is $3.25 next year on an AAV of $4.25 for 4 years

By all accounts, he liked it in Van

Yaa he likely turned down a deal from the Canucks and when he realized what the market would bear his pride likely stood in the way or JB had moved his sights to schmidt. I mean Smitty for a 3rd or toffoli I'm taking Smitty.

I get your frustration. If you give him a real chance in the top six, he might surprise you!

He maybe did not earn it but maybe more responsibility will help him mature.

Not every player grows the same way.

Nobody grows by being handed a fish.

As I said I wouldnt want to subject Pete or Bo to having a linemate that shows up one night and disappears the next.

I hope not! Virtanen needs this chance to fill that spot in the top six. If he doesn’t put it together look for other options.

Why. Did he earn it? Did he put in the work? Is he partying in kelowna rn? Did he show up in the playoffs? IMO Baretschi is more deserved of a chance to come back.

Virtanen can waste in the bottom 6 until he gets his act together or washes out. I wouldnt want to subject Bo or Pete to having a linemate they cant count on night out.

    Nope.

He has had plenty of opportunities to let his one-timer rip since his rookie year and he has held back. Something is ailing him. With that said, he definitely needs to get quicker on his skates and raise his intensity level.

Think he bulked too much after the Clifford hit. Hopefully he comes to camp more lean the twins were some of the most durable players to ever lace up and they were never overly bulky and owned the corners down low.

Have you looked at their D lately?  It’s far from the worst. In fact it’s one of their strengths.  They’re huge, mobile and mean. They punished the a penguins and Flyers in the playoffs. And thst was before they added Edmundson and Romanov

So back to my original proposal then.

Sutter at 50 Virtanen and a pick/Juolevi. IMO Wrathbone Offence and possibly even Breezer defence are passing Juolevi on the depth chart left D.

I am trying to make sense of all this.

I'm confident Benning hired TT because Boeser was out and we were not likely to make the playoffs or make quite the impact IN the playoffs without help. Fine. I get it. Mission accomplished.

But that is a lot to pay for a dozen and a half games if he wasn't going to re-sign him. 4.25 wasn't possible for what was effectively our 1st line RW? Petey said he wants to play with him. So this was all for... playoff experience? Sorry, that falls flat with me. I don't get the about-face.

Benning did say he wanted to revamp the D. I believe that is indeed his focus, and I imagine he is comfortable that between our current wingers and some excellent prospects in Podz, Hogs, and maybe Lind that we don't need wingers for the future or to take on cap with term. (I don't think he believes in Virtanen any longer either, and expect him to be traded soon.)

This off-season has been the most uncomfortable one I can recall. Benning making a bunch of head-scratching moves so far. (Tanev and Marky I can maybe justify)

I'm not full panic yet, and I know there is plenty of time still, but he better come through somehow because right now this is not a playoff team.

Edit: And the fact no dead weight has been moved? I realize the flat cap sucks and teams want a premium but even moving 1 bad contract (LE) makes all the difference... even if its costly.

When TT was acquired the cap was set to increase. Covid hadn't hit.

Circumstances changed. I believe at the time the intention was to sign him.

I think also how the team performed while TT was injured also showd that our biggest weakness was on D. Quinn shouldnt have been put in the position he was and him getting ground to a pulp night out was unacceptable. We need a legit 1b back there. JB is going to have to move salary before he can make the splash nessicary to land the big fish.

Because you've maybe seen him play a few good shifts?

Jordans one of the worst skaters on the Wild and is more one dimensional a player than Jake is.

    Ill take Jake anyday.

Because he has good work ethic his play is consistent. He brings the physical aspect night out can put up points playing w skilled players or put some hurt on the opponent's skilled players. Would rather a player I know what I'm getting each night than one plays hard 1 game then goes invisible for 3.
