Bedard you'll complain?
but that is the thing
you have only so many spots for small guys
we have Quinn, makes Rathbone redundant
we have Garland and now Bouvillier, Bedard makes them both redundant
or we continue on this Team Smurf adventure we have been on

I'll say yes he makes it past. With another year on his contract he's not the type of player a contender trades for at the deadline.
Oh well
we need more wingers

Canucks don't need a 6-7 D... we have 5-6-7 D's coming out our ears.
OEL can play as a 5-6-7, Myers can play as a 5-6-7, Bear can play as a 5-6-7. If Schenn is still here, he can play 5-6-7.
Canucks need #2, #3, #4 D's to complement Hughes at #1.... preferably with size and mobility.
thank you
I didn;t know

I dont think anyone is trading a top 5 pick.
IF we pick 1-8 we are drafting that pick and we have 13-18 we are taking that pick Im pretty confident. We need more prospects.
Hopefully will be a C and a D Man
what,
you don't think we trade that 13-18 for a 6-7 defenseman with potential to play top 2 in Van?

He’ll go UFA. almost guarantee it.. once he gets the numbers coming back he’ll want to return here for 7m per.
We’ll off load cap where we can and see if he’s available.

the absolute best thing about this trade is it happened before Bo got injured
Full marks to Alllvinie for that

are Bouvillier and Raty fast?
Raty is ok, but Bouvillier is smaller and more redundant winger than I'd have preferred
glad we got that D situation sorted

That is true in the perfect world neither Boeser nor Mikheyev would be signed and neither the OEL / Garland trade.
Having said that I wanted to move on from Horvat. Love Horvat but it killed me how he was stuck in this bottom feeding organization for his entire NHL career. I'd rather he move on and find the success he deserves
I too wanted him traded
I have been preparing for it for years
nothing he has done through the last 2 negotiations said to me that he was a lifer here
I think he will flourish when not burdened with the C
in Boston

the question now is
can the 13-18th and Canucks 1st
get you 1st OA?
I was watching Hey Burkie earlier today
so far, there is no Hey Allvinie

When the factors are deadlocked sometimes it's the only way.
Adding to this my main point is there was no straight forward decision here Horvat is a 30 goal scorer and Miller has been 70 or over point per second player since joining Vancouver and neither are actually Defensive studs
that may well be true
but I never saw it as an either/or question until after Miller was signed unnecessarilyhow would the Canucks look right now if they got the same return for Miller?
other than being way overstocked at F.. haha
cuz D? who needs em?

Do you think FA will care where this team is located if and when he puts it up for sale? Especially when its a city who whines at him...
It depends on the money. There will be no clause stating the team stay in Vancouver. He could sell the team to Nebraska if the Money was and granted there are regulations and stipulations on moving a team. 3/4 rule etc.

maybe its Jimmy P's turn
I'm sure we need another Jim in management

99 pts in a season will do that
I don't blame management picking Miller over Horvat last season the Miller and Horvat camps were split pretty even.
So it's not like it's managements fault for basically flipping a coin to decide.
Edit I am not arguing against you just making a point on this topic in general
HOw long will you support a management that uses the coin toss for important decisions?

I never had in my consideration us trading Bo to a team that wouldn’t even make the playoffs. Yet somehow that’s entirely possible.
We knew Bo’s camp didn’t like our latest offer and he wanted to test the market. And he’s earned that right. But if he ended up in say Boston I could see him resigning and being a core piece there for years without ever getting to free agency. Now we secured some assets and have swung the pendulum more likely in the direction of Bo becoming a UFA and ending up in Boston, anyway. Unless the islanders tear it up over the rest of the season which certainly could still happen.

Isn't it better if they finish like some said something like 13th?
they are pretty much in `13th right now
1 point up on 13th with Nashville having 4 games in hand
basically the Isle are protected from any fall
interesting that they couldn't pry a defenseman away from one of the deepest Ds in the league
rookie GM doing rookie GM things I guess
Maybe a defenseman will fall from the sky
right onto our top pairing

The United States GDP increased by 2.9% in the fourth quarter. But they also saw a record number of layoffs and a record increase in the price of food and basic utilities. Something is just not right
I think there will always be a struggle between the "Money" and the "Not Money"
currently would say that the "Money" is winning
the backlash will be the re-rise of the union
how are the things you are describing different from the struggles of Ginger Goodwin, et al?
after the WW2 came the rise of unions and the middle class.
Unions did not start then, they started in the dirty 30s
As a casual observer of history, I wonder if the 30s are a regular occurrence?
it seems from where I sit, that the 2030s might look a lot like the 1930s

So, this becomes a what is commensurate conversation.
If my employee DEMANDS I be in the office and I have no choice but to drive some distance. Let's say Penticton to Kelowna daily. With gas prices; wear and tear on my vehicle and the knowledge that I will be spending 2 additional hours driving to a job that I did capably from my own home; should I not be compensated for the time, cost of gas and wear on my vehicle?
I'll go one further. My wife works for Telus corporate doing billing/accounting. She now has to use our home internet, power and heating etc to do her job at zero discount for using telus internet/phone to do so. Should she not be entitled to some level of tax break for this as well?
I would suggest that yes. employees SHOULD be compensated for some amount of utilities they use to work from home. But, employees that have demonstrated they can do their jobs at and from home or from a mobile platform, who are being forced to return to the office should absolutely be compensated for that time and wear on their vehicle.
For reference I used my sister, My sister works for interior health in the Okanagan. She has done her job from home since Covid happened but has been forced to return to work in kelowna. She drives a Kia soul and it costs her almost $120 a week in gas and an average of 2 hours of driving a day to get to and from Penticton to Kelowna. She is not entitled to compensation or any expenses or even a raise in pay for this. There is a great number of people wanting to take employers to court for this and I would argue they are justified.
employees want to track your time and work habits but will refuse to give you even the smallest amount of help to do your job and that's wrong.
all good points
re: your wife, there comes a point where she becomes an "independent contractor". An independent contractor uses their own tools for the job, that is the difference from being an employee. It she is using her own apparatus she is crossing that line. I am sure this will and should come up in court/gov't regulations. There are tax breaks as well as regulations for these situation.
Now your sister is a different situation, my Lovely GF works in the BC Min Health, there is mounting pressure for people to return to the office because there is not proof that the job is better performed by remote staff. There is a belief that more can be accomplished with "In Person" staff. There is value in looking in a co-workers eye, and having a conversation in person. The measure of that has not been defined as of yet. As fans of a team sport, we recognize the value of "The Room", but in the business world that has not ever been an issue until COVID came about. I believe living in a different city than the one one works in is a choice, a choice with consequences.
last line: I think you mean "employers..." and if you do, then I completely agree, and as I said above, there will need to be court/gov't involved regulation. Some of this is corporate, (your wife) and some is gov't itself, as seen by your sister and my GF.
I believe there is the need for some give-and-take. Taken to the nth degree, is it fair to expect to be paid from the moment you rise in the morning, until you slip off your shoes upon your return home?

Kuz didn't seem to have an issue with it.................
Maybe some felt that towards the previous group? It appears this regime is cleaning up after what was left for them by JB and co.
Kuz is not the best example though,
its not like he has been around and knows a lot about the league
He does not have the experience from being with another team
his only comparative would be his KHL team
If he had gotten injured like Tanner Pearson, he might feel differently

[Trade] Canucks trade Bo Horvat to Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, 2023 1st-round draft pick
in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Posted
This Organization has made lots of mistakes this owner, 2 Prez/Gms, and coaches, Smyl, Linden, there is lots of blame to go around.
But Bo has over-valued his services, and for the most part his play through a lot of his time here.
He signed his last contract one month before the regular season started
He never became the game controlling Selke candidate we expected
He is/was great on faceoffs
Gone are the days when he was considered JToews #2
He brought a balanced outlook, but rarely the fire that this team desperately needs
Orland Kurtenbach was here from the start, I'm not sure what start date you are using to say Bo Horvat was here from.
Bo was/is a good guy, a good family man, but he rarely if ever had the answer to the problems that the Canucks have faced
The team showed too much loyalty to the Sedins, and that is where this downward spiral began
