Bo may be better this year but as a scorer, which the Rags were looking for, winger is fine and his pedigree is far better than Bo actually. I would think there stats would be similar down the stretch, maybe Tarasenko even outscores him. He's had a couple down years due to injury but far more skilled than Bo. Also @The Lock is right about Tarasenko being a rental ... the Rangers don't have the cash to re-sign if he does well.
I guess it would depend on Tara's injuries
Bo is fully healthy in his prime,
Tara may have peaked and the injuries may be debilitating, like Boeser's.. IDK tbh
one would think that Bo not being a rental would increase his value
so if Beau is a real wanted piece, great, if he is just there for cap purposes the extra year stings a bit
So, far, (2 games) I haven't seen anything to get me excited
seems like a guy that will start on the first line (Hope hope hoper)
and finish on the 3rd or traded

You could also look at it this way though:
Beauvillier is a pretty consistent 15 goal guy, 35-40pts per year?
The one piece of track record he has that would intrigue a LOT of contenders is his playoff performance. He definitely seems to turn it up when the playoffs roll around.
So now it is 2023-24, the Canucks are not surprisingly still a bottom 10 team in the league. TDL approaches and Beauvillier is a pending UFA with a typical 10 goals and 20 to 25ish points so far. Canucks decide to offer his services to the highest bidder while retaining 50% for the remainder of the season. You now have a $2M cap hit on a guy that appears to become a much better player in the playoffs (equivalent of a 25g 50pt player). What's that gonna be worth? I reckon we'll get at least 2nd round pick out of him next TDL.
you could,
I'd call that a glass 3/4 full type view of things
you may well be right
I suppose that sooner rather than later the Canucks need to start amassing picks
that second at TDL day 2024 might be a 2025 pick
or it might be a 3rd
but you are correct, his playoff numbers do look good

Again, it's because the Rangers can only afford taking in money for one year. Had Horvat gone to the Rangers, he likely would have also a rental just because they need to sign RFAs and wouldn't have the cap for Horvat. They wouldn't be able to sign Horvat to the money he'd want.
Keep in mind too, we got Raty and a 1st (from a team lower in the standings than the Rangers) out of the deal. We also only gave up Horvat. We didn't give up Mikkola at the same time. You seem ultra-fixated on Beau's contract and Blais' contract while ignoring the big picture in all of this.
pretty sure I'm not fixated, let alone ULTRA-FIXATED
I'm just working thru this like everyone else
I like the pick and the prospect that we received
however in taking Beauvillier we 'weaponized cap' that we do not have to spare on another middle 6 forward
we could not afford Horvat next year at $8M but spent $4M on a player we don't need
Granted we might be more able to shed Beau and his $4M easier than Boeser
but as of right now, we shed $5.5M in Horvat and replaced him with $4.1M in Beau for next year
that is not a lot of savings for a cap strapped team

St Louis retained half of Tarasenko's salary.
Rangers also give up the later of theirs or Dallas' 1st round pick.
I know that Beauvillier has a year left after this one, and that's the big difference here, but we got a much better return then St Louis IMO.
that is true
but we also gave up the better player, this year

How out of touch with reality can you be. The landscape of the league is the single most talked about topic for YEARS! Like I said every GM and analysis say it's mostly dollar in dollar out
but it is not
B HOrvat was almost $ in $out but Beau is signed til 2024, so the canucks have $4.1 M spent for next year
StL sent out $7.5M and brought / retained $5.275M for a saving of $2,25M til seasons end
$2,25M could be used in future deals

Tarasenko = Rental
Horvat = Not rental
Some people understand this better than others.
how do you know this?
it took a day for Horvat to be signed
what difference does that make to Stl or Van?

People really have no ability to google capfriendly and realize nobody in the league has cap space. "JuSt WeApOnIzE cAp SpAcE." Contending teams can't just take 5-6mil a year players without sending cap out, hell Bo is nearly a 9mil a year player. The dollars have to make sense, but these armchair GMs on CDC don't have any sense.
Blais $1.25 M til 23
Beauvillier $4.1 M til 24
Some GMs understand weaponizing cap better than others

I’m not ashamed to say that I’m hoping someone like Miller checks Horvat hard in an open ice hit… just to remind him that 6’0”+, 200 lbs+ leaders on teams are expected to do that once in awhile.
I wanna see a Horvat,.<> Miller fight
Nice knowing you BOi , its my team now, I was only pretending to be budz

So besides Kuzmenko who are the other 4 guys
Have to think by some sloppy D play Stillman, OEL and then possibly Myers and Boeser even though he was bumped to the top line.
I like his explanation that if a player is off his game, just make sure you make the simple plays, stay in position, get pucks in deep and don't worry about your offensive game.
Hopefully by the end of the season they bring consistent play whether they win or lose.
If we get a top 5 pick , perfect
I like Tocchet
I liked him as a player and I think I will like him as a coach
and I couldn't care less about his legal issues
I think he says the same things as Green and Bruce
but Green was too arrogant
and Bruce had his feet cut out from under him by JR's comments
Bruce was never going to have a say in who stays and who goes
I think Tocchet will have that say
He seems honest without throwing guys under the bus

wouldn't it be amazing if the NHL hired someone smart to design the points system
instead of someone 'smartish'
the NHL points system, like many rule changes in the NHL, reminds me of the Victoria Transit system
designed poorly from the start, and fixed and fixed and fixed again

Most likely not alot of people scouted those 2 Russian goalies. Sorokin was the 8th goalie drafted that year and Shesterkin was the 14th goalie drafted. They hung around the KHL for several years prior to coming to the NHL.
Getting a Vezina trophy winner in Shesterkin in the 4th round is the reason most teams don't pick a goalie in the 1st round. It's such a hard position to master and most goalies need years to develop before they can make the jump to the NHL. Then you have the opposite and the Islanders take Rick DiPietro 1st overall and he is a bust.
yes, but isn't that the reason we got Benning, because he could find us gems in the later rounds?
right now, Demko is the star of the later rounds and the legacy of Benning's later round drafting
we are now calling the 2nd, "Later rounds" haha

Bo will be hacked on by NYI fans as early as next year when the honeymoon is over and they have an 8.5M player who gets 60 points a year.
it is funny and kind of sad
that the Canucks traded for OEL just so they could stay in cap heckdarn for another 6 or 7 years
Bo comes into the league onto an old team that struggles for 9 years, then gets traded to an old team ready to tank
I just watched Groundhog Day, will the Canucks, Islanders, OEL, Horvat or the Canuck fans ever wake up beside Andie McDowell?

What sticks in my craw a little, though, is TankNation's unabashed glee after a loss ... revelling in Martin's 0-9 record last 9 games, glorifying the mistakes that e.g Myers or Stillman make that results in a goal against, posting silly gifs of tanks skidding, crashing etc.
Sure, we think the season is a write off. ... do the players think that? If they skated round in circles, giving just 50%, accomplishing nothing but loss after loss, would TankNation be elated?
We know when Petey signed his bridge deal that he stated he wanted to be with a contender, and thus was leaving his options open. My fear of "embracing the Tank" is that it will drive Petey away, followed soon therafter by a Hughes request for a trade. Thats 10 more years of mediocrity, with or without Bedard. Is that really what we want?
you wanna know what sticks in my craw?
fans defending the Ericksson signing with statements like, " It isn't a great deal now, but I understand why Jim did it"
or defending the Miller trade or the OEL trade or Boeser signing
there are so many gullible fans who support bad GMing and poor ownership, they deserve the bad team that we have
if the team decides to give 50% great, at least we know that the whole team needs to be replaced, that is what Tocchet is looking for
if the whole team gives 50% except 2 player, those 2 are the guys you keep
If Petey and HUghes decide to leave, that is too bad,
either it is because the management is too incompetent to build a team around them, or they don't have the heart to stick it out
If it is because the team is too incompetent to build around those guys, you won't be able to say that Petey didn't warn you/them.
the Rangers played tonight with 5 players drafted since 2017 (Petey's year)
for the Canucks to play 5 drafted players either Demko (2014) needs to come back or Hoglander does.
and here is a tidbit about Demko, if the Canucks lose to Sorokin and the Isle tomorrow, they will have lost to 3 goalies drafted in 2014 after Demko on this road trip
actually we could end up playing against Ville Husso in Detroit, from the same draft
Demko is good, but there were other good goalies in that draft

Bobby Orr shut out that night but 2 fights against Rosie Paiement
and Setting the bar for many a Canuck game in the future
Canucks jump out to a 2 goal lead in the first period only to score 1 of the next 9 goals
That is Canuck hockey from the early days

[Trade] Blues trade Vladimir Tarasenko, Niko Mikkola to Rangers for Sammy Blais, Hunter Skinner, conditional 2023 1st-round pick, conditional 2024 4th-round pick
in Trades, Rumours, Signings

maybe I am nit picking
but at some point we need to start shedding cap
and it can't always be 2 years down the road, nor at the cost of a second round pick
call it nit picking if you like, but I am just mentioning moves done by Allvin this season
some folks here believe that we can't trade anyone or Petey will bolt
I do not agree with that, however, I do believe that the pieces coming back need to be useful before Pete signs his next contract
hence the 2 year stip
FWIW I don't hate the trade, I think of it as a rookie GM getting his feet wet against one of the best in the biz
If Raty becomes a solid #2 C and the pick becomes a solid #2 RD, then its a win
but by #2 I mean #2s on Tampa, not #2 on Arizona or the Canucks circa 2016-2020
Or you know maybe Raty turns into P. Bergeron, Beauvillier turns JT Miller, (but not so grumpy) and the pick turns into Shea Weber, and we laugh alll the way to a cup.
But unrelenting positivity is not my thing
