  1. The Miracle of Morgan's Creek - 7.5/10 This 1944 film stars Betty Hutton and Eddie Bracken. Hutton plays Trudy Kockenlocker, a woman who accidently gets drunk with a bunch of soldiers the night before they leave and ends up married and pregnant. She does not remember who the soldier was and knows she used a fake name, so she has no means of tracking down any information. Hutton is good in her role, but the scene stealer goes to Eddie Bracken, who has been trying his hardest to win Hutton's heart ever since their school days. Teh film is a comedy through and through. My wife was busting a gut throughout the whole movie. It ends very abruptly, but the film is from 1944, so I can forgive some of its shortfalls.
  2. Celeste and Jesse Forever - 6.5/10 Written and starring Rashida Jones, the film follows Celeste (Jones) and Jesse (Andy Samberg), a recently separated married couple who still remain best friends. Jones and Samberg have remarkable chemistry. The script is very well done and the performances are very good from top to bottom (Elijah Wood, Eric Christian Olsen, Ari Graynor, Chris Messina, Emma Roberts). It's a bummer of a film though, with not the happiest of endings. Worth watching though.
  3. Had I watched Life of Pi for the first time on a plane, or even on a sub-par tv, I'd probably rate it the same as you. It is an interesting story and told very well; but the visuals absolutely made it that much better. When my grandparents (passed away years ago) had talked about how going to the movies in the 1940s was such a magical experience, it was something I never really experienced that often. Life of Pi was the first film in a long time where it just felt magical when I saw it in theatres.
  4. Well, I never said that you said that I said that...(this goes on for a while)
  5. Never said it was unfairly compared to LOTR or that it was a great film without flaws.
  6. Wasn't a great film by any means; but terrible, I think not. Just a letdown as it is being compared to LOTR.
  7. 7 Psychopaths - 5/10 I'm giving marks for performances, the idea for the film, and the first half. It wasn't the best script that could have been written for the characters. The biggest letdown: Michael Pitt had 1 minute of screen time. The most underutilized actor in Hollywood.
  8. You know, I didn't hate The Big Year, but I didn't particularly like it either. I absolutely see what you're saying though. It's a nice, clean movie to have on in the background, if you have kids and don't want the same crap filling their brains. On the other hand, it has three comedic actors in it, and it's not a comedy. It's also not a drama. It's a movie made for bird lovers, which is a pretty small community.
  9. After not listening to it for about a week and coming back to it again, I really think that Daft Punk's Random Access Memories is easily their best to date. So much easier to come back to and listen then any of their previous albums. The album is filled with much more "songs" than the others. More importantly, it is clearly meant to be experienced from start to finish. Glass Jaw and D-Money said it perfectly, they were always more of a singles band. They set out to do something different this time around, and it paid off.
  10. Bad Teacher - 0.5/10 I can't find anything redeemable for this so-called "film". Just a massive turd.
  11. ^^^ It's a tough one. Gulutzan might be a good choice, but like you said, there is not a whole lot to go on. The Stars iced an absolute terrible team, it's surprising they didn't finish dead last.
  12. Iron Man 3 - 4.5/10 Should have gone to see Mud
  13. Remember, forgiveness instead of permission
  14. Well, it's my birthday tomorrow (ah thank you). And my wife and I are going to see a movie. Can't decide between Mud (99% on RT) or Iron Man 3. Suggestions?
  15. I know what you mean. There was a time where I really enjoyed PC games (late 90s through 2003). At which point, I was no longer living in dorm and was now married. And with tvs being where they are today, I barely use my computer at home now. My wife and I have already decided that the next time we decide to get a new "computer," we're just going to buy an ipad.
  16. Exactly. Sony took a sh*tkicking when they came out with the PS3 based purely on the price of their console. The XBOX ONE may be priced right when it initially comes out, but word will get around quickly about all the additional costs, which will absolutely scare people off. And let's not forget they are completely alienating everyone outside the US. Not a great move.
  17. ^^^ EDIT: in response to Armada. Yeah, see the problem is all about first impressions. Myself, I am not married to any console, which was proven by purchasing all current gen consoles. For instance, I waited 2 years to buy the PS3 for it to come down in price and get a Blu-Ray player. The first impressions for the PS3 were not good (based on the price alone), and it hit them hard. This is is no different with the XBOX ONE. All the current news is really quite bad. I'm positive that the console itself will have a lot of benefits to it, some even better than what the PS4 will role out with. That said, everything they have said about what it can do has been attached to some pretty glaring negatives.
  18. Probably already mentioned, but Sony can really run away with the console war quickly, if they avoid what Microsoft just did.
  19. He'll throw everything but the kitchen sink at the opposing team. Right? Am I right?
  20. Side Effects - 7/10 Really enjoyed what is supposed to be Steven Soderbergh's last film. Ended up being completely different than what I was expecting. There really wasn't a whole lot about it that I didn't like to bring it down 3 points. Wasn't really buying the lesbian angle, there must have been a better angle to work with. Like I said, really cool thriller.
  21. And every season that Erikkson has been in the NHL. Anyone can see that he is far superior than Burrows.
  22. Great coach while he was here. Unfortuantely 2 consistent first round exits after the run to the finals is what was obviously his undoing. He'll find another job quickly, as he has a lot of hockey knowledge to pass onto another team.
  23. I usually can't stand Tom Cruise, but I too thought he was good. He was one of, if not the only redeemable parts of the film. That's why i gave it a 5. There were a few scenes where Cruise was really good, and that brought the film up. Otherwise, just was totally forgettable. Not a bad film persay, just forgettable.
  24. Jack Reacher - 5/10 Enjoyable enough to watch, but not enough to remember. The Watch - 3/10 I should have known going in that it was going to be terrible. You know, because Ben Stiller is in it. I also forgot that Vince Vaughn was in it as well, which was another minus.
