I haven't seen the numbers, is that the main group up here now?

Yea because we just have or still haven't been able to get our second shot.  Who knew that when the government pushes groups of people back that we would be the more likely to get it.  Was just part of a giant twitter thread of some old fart accusing young people of being selfish and casuing the issues and he got stomped out pretty quick when all of us 20-40s came out and said the government was turning us away from our second shot because it wasn't "time" or we just got it and still in the 2 week incubation period.

Old fart apparently deleted his original tweet bashing the young people now.

Who are you signing with your cap space next year? Are you signing seth jones? People on this board like to pinpoint specific players that fit the mold for our team (aka all the available RHD in the NHL), BUT nhl players are humans and may have no desire at all to play for the canucks. Adam Larsson clearly didn't, Jones definitely doesn't want too, list goes on and on. You can't just start penciling in free agents because we have cap and we're a "nice city "

Do you really want Loui Eriksson 2.0 here with a bad 7 mill contract weighing down the team after another season or 2?  OEL has been declining every season?  You think he's magically going to find his legs again and play like he was 21 years old and starting to rip up the league?  He's a PP specialist, last time I checked we have Hughes for that.

Also who are we signing, oh I don't know maybe depth players to compliment our young kids that are going to get paid.  Instead our D is going to be weighed down in a season or 2 with OEL and Myers anchoring the 3rd pairing, getting caved in and getting destroyed because neither can keep up.

I would have rather brought Hamonic back on a 2-3 year deal as he has expressed interest in returning (not going to be as cheap as last year).  Theres no guarantee anyone is going to come here ever even though we love all playing GM but the long term weigh down is bad on this one.  What are we hoping for?  2 maybe 3 solid years of OEL and 4 years of trash?  Maybe I will be wrong but the hockey guys and analytics guys seem to not be very enthused with OEL for any amount of time as he's on a decline already.

  3. My goodness.... We were one year away from ditching all these bad contracts, one more year of pain.

Now we are going to have all this pain as OEL continues to decline, theres no D that gets better with age.....

And now we need Petey, Hughes, Dickenson, and Garland.... Gonna be really interesting to see.

IM still sitting happy.  Just wanted to check in.  Got excited a few times and gambled and lost but still up on the year.

Hard to not be excited about making money, so easy to get over leveraged or wait to long

I think I started getting to over trading trying to catch fire and sell in the green.  I have transitioned to the more blue chip stocks recently as opposed to the hopeful bigger run small cap stocks.  Looking to free up money and invest in a Russell or Nasdaq ETF

What are the waiver rules with their selections though? Isn't the roster limit 23 players, yet they will be selecting 30. I assume Seattle would pick a few prospects with the intent of having them start in the minors.

Waivers will be same come season start, guys will be on waivers that don't cut the team and really I like both lind and Gad but I doubt the have a hope in hell of cracking opening night roster with the mock drafts I have seen.  Plus they will probably still sign another 15 or so guys who will be AHLers or NHL tweeners.  Sounded like they already had some contacts and possible contracts in place with UFAs from reading twitter last night.

It'll be interesting to see, we'll get to compare their roster to ours soon enough.  Their D will probably look better right off the bat too.

If either Lindor Gadjovich is picked up by Seattle,  I am curious if they are subject to waivers?

I just don't see the both of them making the roster immediately due to the players Seattle can pick from.  But don't get me wrong, they are good prospects.

I am certain if they are placed on waivers, the Canucks would be waiting to pounce.

Theres way better forwards out there that will either be picked up or FA that Seattle will grab, my bet is either of those guys would get waived pretty quick.

You might be surprised.  Guys like Lind and MacEwen are still complete unknowns while Holtby is getting up there in age and wouldn’t be seen as a long term asset.

For all of Jake’s warts these past 18 months or so, he was well on his way to having his first ever 20 goal season pre-Covid.   The “Covid lifestyle” and “Covid fatigue” affects everyone differently and this can certainly be a major reason why Virtanen was a no show from the Bubble onwards.

A 20 goal clip at a 2.5 million dollar cap hit is good production.  If Jake delivers for Seattle, he’ll likely try and be there long term and be a long term asset to the franchise (even if he signs a short term deal first).  If he busts, then Seattle walks away from him at the end of the season.

Guys like MacEwen and Lind are a dime a dozen.  Virtanen on the other hand, could be an excellent reclamation project to take a gamble on.

I highly doubt Seattle being in an a VERY liberal state would ever consider someone who has sexual assault charges currently pending.  Even if it gets cleared up theres still a massive cloud around the situations that will linger forever of "did they pay her off? did they just botch the investigation because he's a rich athlete?"

I just watched the documentary Heist on Netflix. One of the stories is about Pappygate, a heist in 2013 at the Buffalo Trace distillery. I won't spoil the story but in 2012 Anthony Bourdain said that Pappy Van Winkle was the best bourbon he'd ever tasted and bottles that were retailing for $50-$100 were selling for $1000-$5000.

I just started watching that show last night.  Going to have to skip to the bourbon one now!

Hospitalisation are going up it’s just with a different group, it’s not reported as much but I trust my wife’s ITU nurse friends who have been working the COVID wards in two of our local hospitals

Ah ok.  He was just saying he's not worried until hospitalizations get out of hand.

It'll be curious to see what hospitalization rates follow these spikes.  If the vast majority of the vaccinated people stay out of the hospitals things shouldn't get too bad.

Chatted with a guy from the UK earlier in the week, he said yea their cases are rising but hospitalizations really aren't going up like before.  He was trying to say how he feels even the AZ vaccine he got out there he feels is helping keep people out of the hospital.  But I guess only time will tell.

Bang on, I feel the same way about Benning being able to bring in real stars via trades or signings, but I guess he can't because he shot himself in the foot with several bad signings previously. It's a mess.

Couldn't get OEL, Lost Tanev, settled for Schmidt

Miller was a nice trade acquisition, but he's not exactly a star. Neither is Pearson.

I find as well that when Benning does bring in a player, the player is sometimes past his best before date, and on the decline.  Ferland, Roussel, Beagle, Eriksson, Holtby, Schmidt, etc.

Benning held his ground and didn't buckle on that one, and thank god he did.  OEL advanced stats are hot trash now.

The report says these issues were is already unhealthy people with heart disease.  And they said the deaths were in the very old.

These vaccines are friggin’ amazing!  Anyone, unless for medical reasons, not getting vaccinated is a friggin’ moron.

And people need to los3 weight!  We are away too fat!  Nearly 80% of those needing hospitalization from Covid were grossly overweight or obese.

Big gulps and sugary drinks are far more harmful than these vaccines.

God people are so bloody ignorant!

Get vaccinated, and get your weight under control. Eat healthy and exercise!

    Drinking scotch is okay.

I remember drinking those as a kid, god just the idea of it now makes me sick.  I had a couple weeks ago, first one in a couple years and was like "yea nope not happening, this is way to sweet and sugary for me"

I second the scotch though.  Like they said from the beginning, alcohol kills the virus hence all the wipes, I figured it would do the same to my insides so a good ole 40%+ did its job I felt!

I think China is funding the development of the new business district in Colombo.  It'll be interesting to see if this has any real consequences.

I can guarantee you China isnt doing it out of the goodness of their hearts lol

How many major project around the world has China financed in recent years?

Lots.  They have taken over Africa recently and some other smaller asian (I think they are in the asia continent?)  Pretty much leveraged the hell out of them.  Theres only one country in Africa that hasn't been bribed by China yet.

I have been following this story for some time now.

Montenegro has taken a large loan from China to finance a road project that became too expensive to finish.

Now they owe 1b or so to China which is around 20% of their GDP.

They might have to give up some of their infrastructure to China in order to repay the debt, they also have been pleading with EU to help them.

Montenegro has good strategic position and sits on the Adriatic Sea.

I think we are seeing this road and belt initiative by China starting to produce desired results.

Trapping poorer and smaller countries under mountain of debt and than gaining strategic positions and influence.

Very similar to European nations not investing in their military and giving up their sovereignty to NATO aka the U.S.

CPP has been doing this for a while now.  Building infrastructure for themselves on their dime and when countries can't come up with the money they basically start taking assets.  These countries are hoping for a win but every one of them is about to lose.  Watched a good video on it on YouTube a while back about it.

To say they didn't make jokes of Presidents so me how much you watched those shows. Letterman spent a show with O'Reilly as his guest, and completely shredded him. O'Reilly was one of the first of the Trump backers who led the charge in the Obama birther bs. He also had citizen Trump on his show often as well, and he wasn't complementary of him either.

But was it every show all show for 4 years?  Eventually it got boring seeing all them do is yap about Trump for their entire show.  I liked Seth Myers a ton but after a couple months of the same thing each episode it got so tiresome.  I like some good shots every so often but it just got so repetitive.

The hosts nowadays are nowhere near as good as the likes of Letterman, Carson and others. Those guys could joke about anything and anyone. Now, it seems the general consensus is find the low hanging fruit.

I got sick of all the hosts in recent years.  They would spend 90% of their show just about Trump.  Seriously, make it a 5 minute segment and move onto something else.  Just got tired of it, I miss Letterman and Leno, Carson was before my time so I have only seen clips.
