  1. WAIVERS: The New York Rangers have claimed Tyson Strachan from the Pittsburgh Penguins via waivers.

WAIVERS: The Columbus Blue Jackets have claimed Patrick Kaleta from the Montreal Canadiens via waivers.

  2. Starting to see some re-signings trickle through in the actual NHL, is there a specific date we can begin negotiating with our pending RFA/UFA's?

    Sorry if already asked.

Not sure if this was answered yet.

Section 4.5 of the Collective Agreement:

    4.5 – Extensions

Beginning on March 5, 2014, a player whose contract is expiring at the end of the year can be approached regarding signing an extension. Teams are permitted to enter formal negotiations with one player and can inquire about 3 other players regarding their contract desires before the end of the season. After the regular season ends, teams may open formal negotiations with up to 6 players, but remember only a handful may sign extensions. When negotiating an extension with a player that has played with your club for the entire season, teams may offer up to an 8 year contract term if desired.

  3. Hey guys,

I apologize for being lackadaisical/absent regarding the LTiR updates.

My work schedule has been crazy lately and I do my best to stay up to date. Also, I've met this French girl. I'll be back to my old self quickly.

However, It is going to be important to note that I will be away for most of January in Costa Rica where I am not certain of my internet access. I may need to have a coverage unless you all are willing to allow me a few days grace. I'll let the commish chime in on this one.

If the league is unhappy with my handing of the process I will seek a replacement for next season.

You do a fantastic job with the IR updates, and we're lucky to have someone like yourself in this game. The league is thrilled to have you on board and as long as you're willing to work the IR updates we are happy to have you do it.

I do think you've earned a break though. Nobody wants to go on vacation to Costa Rica and have to worry about finding internet access to post some IR updates. I'll leave it up to you if you want to keep it up during your holiday but I'd be happy to fill in while you're away so you have one less thing to worry about.

  4. The league only rewards teams that win.... while its great that were outshooting teams but just not getting any puck luck, the rest of the teams ahead of us are pulling away from us..

You're missing my point. Nobody was talking this way after October when the Canucks were rolling. They've had a miserable stretch in November and they're under the gun to get back in it, absolutely.

What I'm saying is a bounce here or there last month and these topics don't exist. Things will turn around, we'll start getting those bounces and closing out those games where we're the superior team for 58 minutes of it. The law of averages will sway back in our favor. Our power play will start burying chances on a more regular basis. Burrows will score a goal or two.

Do they need to add more scoring punch to the 2nd line? Obviously. Have the Canucks dug themselves a hole? Yes they have. It is going to be tough to catch up? Definitely. Are the Canucks capable of doing it? Absolutely.

  5. I sent him down. Later realized he required waivers so I placed him on waivers. Saw that he was already down so I deleted the post. I'm fine with what ever you guys decide happens with it.

Mistake on my part sending him down without waivers. But between the time you placed him on waivers and the time you edited the post (which isn't allowed by the way), he was claimed.

  6. Frustrating for my team is the goaltending situation.

Cory Schneider has been playing very well, but the Devils just give him no support at all. In the last 3 games he's only allowed 1 goal against in each game, but has a 1-1-1 record in those 3 games, and the 1 win was in overtime. He's allowed only 19 goals against all year and has a 1.87 GAA, 1 shutout and a .925 SV% on an awful team, and yet his record is only 2-5-3 in 10 games. If they can start turning Cory's performances into wins, my team would get a great boost.

  7. How weak is that Central division lol.

Top 4 teams in the division within 66 points of each other. Totals aren't as high, but it's competitive.

The Jets has underachieved so far this year, but that seems to be the norm with my team over the years. I believe they will turn it around.

  8. I would be the big loser hear but the riders won the grey cup so I'm too happy right now.

Sorry for that guys, i will look a some of my old pms and see what I did wrong.

Can I wait til the end of the year to decide what pick to give up

Must be awarded by December 1st.

  9. Hey C2X,

I sent you a PM a couple of days ago but I'm not sure if you've looked at it yet.

There has been a mistake made on CBJ's spreadsheet.

CBJ and PHI both have 2014 CAR 2nd listed. PHI acquired it from WSH on 03 April 2013 in a deal involving Cogliano.

The Carolina 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection belongs to Philadelphia.

Looking at how Columbus got the pick:

    July 5, 2013

    To CAR:

    Tom Gilbert

TB 2014 3rd Round Draft Selection

    To TB:

CAR 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection

    Aug. 23, 1013

    To BUF:

    Jeremy Morin

    Tomas Jurco

    Johnny Oduya

    Samuel Morin

CAR 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection

    To TB:

    Dan Boyle

    Tyler Bozak

    Cameron Schilling

BUF 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection

    Oct. 1, 2013

    To BUF:

    Marcus Johansson

    To CBJ:

    Tyler Biggs

BUF 2014 1st Round Draft Selection

CAR 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection

BUF 2014 3rd Round Draft Selection

Looking at how Philadelphia got the pick:

    March 8, 2013

    To CAR:

    Miikka Kiprusoff

    Keith Aucoin

    To WSH:

    Thomas Greiss

MTL 2013 2nd Round Draft Selection

CAR 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection

    Dylan Blujus

    To MTL:

    Zach Boychuk

    April 3, 2013

    To WSH:

    Andrew Cogliano

    To PHI:

MTL 2013 2nd Round Draft Selection

WSH 2013 3rd Round Draft Selection

CAR 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection

CGY 2014 3rd Round Draft Selection

As you can see, Philadelphia's acquisition of the draft pick pre-dates any of the trades that led to the Blue Jackets acquiring the selection, and so the Flyers retain possession of the draft pick.

As for Columbus, they entered into a trade (as did the teams prior to them) in good faith with the understanding that the draft pick was involved, and so the Blue Jackets are entitled to compensation from the offending team. As the trade history outlines, Carolina dealt the draft pick twice. Teams are required to ensure they know what assets they have at their disposal and which ones they have moved.

FINAL DECISION: The Carolina Hurricanes are required to award one of their 1st Round Draft selections (CAR 2014 1st Round Pick or CAR 2015 1st Round Pick) to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

  10. Also, both MIN and PHI spreadsheets show MIN 2014 2ND, who actually owns that pick?

The Minnesota 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection belongs to Philadelphia.

    September 15, 2012

    To ANA:

    Eric O'Dell

    Matt Taormina

MIN 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection

    To MIN:

    Keith Ballard

    June 9, 2013

    To ANA:

    Marian Hossa

    To PHI:

ANA 2014 1st Round Draft Selection

VAN 2014 1st Round Draft Selection

MIN 2014 2nd Round Draft Selection

    Zach Budish

Working on the issue with CBJ and PHI both holding Carolina's 2nd round pick now...

  11. CLAIMED: The Los Angeles Kings have claimed Chris Thorburn from the Anaheim Ducks via waivers.

As Los Angeles doesn't currently have cap room to accomodate Thorburn's salary, the Kings have 24 hours to create a roster spot for him, or Thorburn will be placed on waivers automatically prior to being assigned to their minor league team.
