  1. and yet a typo is irrelevant when discussing the intelligence of others.
  2. big difference between a spelling mistake and a typographical error, fella.
  3. mike richards got simmonds, b. schenn, 2nd. kesler would get no more than that.
  4. jason garrison is a terrible hockey player. 4.6 x 6 still boggles the mind after one decent season. i said it at the time and i'll say it again now: that contract alone should have been enough to cost gillis his job. its exactly the same as the jeff finger contract.
  5. yep, i was thinking about it this morning actually. it took the flames 9 YEARS after their cup run to accept reality and offload their assets. it took those same 9 years for them to draft a player that has a legitimate shot at being a star 1st liner. as great as horvat, shinkaruk etc will hopefully become, nobody in the canucks system has the high end skill to become a consistent 80-100 point player, and frankly, until the team accepts reality, they won't be replacing the outgoing stars via the draft because they won't be drafting top 5.
  6. vigneault was the problem and tortorella is the answer though, right? where are all those morons from the beginning of the year?
  7. its not just about the assets they got in return, its about roster turnover, making room for young players developed from within, and shedding dead weight salary to remain competitive.
  8. yeah, it takes a couple years to reload (if you're lucky, or have good enough drafting/development). you think the canucks are primed to go to the finals this year after their two "down years"? of course not. if the canucks unloaded their old supporting cast this year, they'd still be 5 years away at least because of their abysmal drafting. but the clock won't start ticking down on those 5 years until they unload.
  9. how about what the hawks did with campbell, versteeg, ladd, byfuglien, niemi etc? seemed to work ok for them didn't it?
  10. fans should have high expectations. so should gms. fans should also be loyal to the players that have bled for them. gms should be significantly less so. the problem is that gillis has hung onto these players long enough that instead of being remembered positively after departing, they now instill a sense of bitterness and disappointment. look at guys like bill belichick, or even wally buono. they have no remorse when it comes to cutting ties with beloved fan favorites and the result is teams that can perennially compete.
  11. if you can't overcome injuries you're not going anywhere in the playoffs anyway.
  12. that's because those guys are the bargain versions of all those things. you get what you pay for.
  13. no, i don't think they're playing their best. i still don't believe their best is good enough. the canucks have, at most, 3 legitimate top 6 forwards. that's not competitive.
  14. because the canucks as they are currently built, even fully healthy and playing their absolute best, aren't good enough.
  15. my argument, in short, is that this teams primary scoring almost certainly won't start happening with any regularity, and even if it did, it wouldn't be enough to make this team compete with the best in the league.
  16. 1. 4 wins in 12 games this year 2. have you watched this team play? they are at least 2 full steps below the teams that are actual contenders.
  17. how many of them didn't make it because they were too big?
  18. now go look up all the small players that didn't make it.
  19. booth has zero skills and zero brains. you could get the same effect by putting a chimp on rocket skates.
  20. if the canucks miss the playoffs or go out quick aquilini will demand change in some capacity. 10-15 playoff games over a 3 year stretch is an awful lot of wasted money not going into francesco's back pocket.
