the year is a write off and everyone, team included, knows it. he's doing what a captain has to do; he's going down with his ship.
no player with even a shred of leadership ability would do anything different in the same circumstances unless immediate surgery was necessary.
ha, and henrik isn't out there "sacrificing" right now?
give me a goddamn break. henrik even in decline is twice the player and ten times the leader kesler will ever be.
because detroit has been openly interested in edler for 10 years, almost traded for him at this past draft, and have reportedly been open to carrying on discussions during the season.
that's why.
i love the argument that tortorella is better suited than vigneault for coaching in the playoffs.
for his career: 5 missed playoffs (including stints as interim head coach), 4 first round exits, 2 second round exits, 1 third round exit, 1 cup win.
vigneault: 3 missed playoffs, 2 first round exits, 4 second round exits, 1 cup loss.
tortorella has won 8 rounds in 13 seasons, vigneault has won 7 rounds in 10 seasons.
people get hung up on tampa's cup win a decade ago, which tortorella himself explains as happening only because none of them had any idea what they were doing.
and for a little perspective, vigneault won 6 playoff rounds in his 7 years in vancouver. tortorella has won 3 playoff rounds in the 8 seasons since winning the cup in 04.
careful guys, don't criticize garrison or someone will come in and throw a bunch of meaningless stats in your face to try to prove you wrong. the fact that its plainly obvious he sucks huge means nothing compared to his ratio of shots:missed shots.
i did nothing of the sort. the only thing i've said regarding kesler/richards is "richards got such and such in a trade. and kesler would get no more"
no stats mentioned.
have you watched a game? garrison constantly looks lost in all zones. literally his only strength is his shot, and he isn't putting picks in the net this year which effectively makes him useless.
yep. it concerns me that the canucks strength and conditioning team and management push so hard to be lean and ultra fit, when there's so much evidence that having bulk helps. i bet kassian would play better at 225 than he does at 210-215 the same way bertuzzi played better at 245 than he did at 220.
convenient that you only replied to a joke and a statement about shots. what about the rest that i mentioned, you know, the basics of being a defenseman?
he's had slugs on his line all year. you can't just skate really fast into the offensive zone when your linemates are still at your blue line.
this ring a bell?
learn how to not constantly get turnstiled by average players in his zone. stop putting passes directly on the tape of opposition players in his zone. learn how to clear the zone. hit the net with a shot. skate faster than i can.
i don't expect gillis to be fired. he's done far too much good for the team financially for francesco to jettison him. i do, however, expect him to assume solely the president role and hire a new gm before the rebuild, if only for the fact that it would allow him to avoid going back on his word of never asking players to waive ntcs.
if and when that happens, my vote goes to either dale tallon (if he runs out of leash with new florida ownership), or a rookie gm that's been groomed in a successful franchise.
gillis's "retools" of the past didn't lead to the finals, burke/nonis's core peaking and having career years did. if nonis didn't get fired so early and was actually given a chance to build his team, it likely would have done just as well.
yeah, and the whole core that got him there, including the sedins, kesler, burrows, hansen, raymond, bieksa, edler, salo, luongo, schneider and even coach v, were all his acquisitions, too.
