An unsubstantiated rumour is beginning to make the rounds that Nintendo isn't going to have much stock in physical stores like Gamestop when the Switch launches.

Considering they've time and again flubbed distribution that was physical or digital, they shouldn't be shunning anyone on any front.

Also, if they were to actually do that, it would be so many different kinds of stupid. Both for the consumer, and them.

  2. I agree with you guys. In a WWE with Roman Reigns and John Cena, somehow someone who is supposed to be an ancillary authority figure is the most grating and overbearingly dominant detriment to the show. Because she makes herself anything but ancillary. She does everything and anything to everyone without recompense, just to flex her muscles in a non-fictional manner. No one is writing her character like this, or writing her into all the segments she finds herself in because they're unprompted to. This is her ego at work.

If you don't have Xcom 2 yet, the Humble Monthly is offering XCOM 2 as its first available piece for the bundle at 12$ USD. The bundles have been pretty great lately, so I'd recommend picking it up

It's a pretty good game, would fairly highly recommend. Not quite as good as the first, as I'm not sure all the new mechanics offer the same tight experience, but all things considered, it followed up very well on a game that's not so easy to follow up on. It avoided the feeling of sameness.

Launch title leak according to a German GameStop employee:

Zelda, "Mario", Elder Scrolls, and Dragon Quest X would all be in my bag on launch day if this were all the case.

Not sure I would care about Mario Kart unless there was online play, and I haven't heard much of anything about the Switch and internet capability.

Also, I hope if they launch the VC YET AGAIN, charging people YET AGAIN, they goddamn better not take 10 years to build the library.

Promising stuff if true, but i thought zelda was delayed. Dragon Quest would be an immediate pick up. I've only ever played IX but it was hell of a time vampire (in a good way.) I just loved journeying through that land.

I'm curious to see what "Pokemon Stars" is - I hope it isn't just a port of Sun/Moon. Either make it a full blown HD remake, or combine a bunch of the previous pokemon games or integrate it with Go or something. Like Bassi said, Nintendo can print money off this franchise if they play it smart, or even just play off nostalgia right now. But... Nintendo sometimes just isn't smart, and they take way too many chances with "new" stuff rather than what the people want.

I was going to go buy Sun/Moon this week, but I've decided to wait for the Thursday reveal to see what exactly the future of the series/franchise is

I don't think they like money. The way they under produce anything that sells like hot cakes is kind of evident of that, lol.

But yeah, they've been handling nostalgia and innovation really backwards of late. Star Fox Zero was the best example of this in both respects. Remaking a game that nobody wanted to see remade instead of offering a new adventure (it's now the third incarnation of the same game, the second of which also had its own official remake.) And to top it off they tacked on "innovative" touch pad controls that made the game a pain to even try to play.

Everybody has been clamoring for a 3D Pokemon red/blue for 20 years. Just make it so. If they were smart enough to have launched with it the Switch would have flown off shelves.

I figured it must not be good because I've never heard a single person praise it, but still I have hope that I will find something in it worth my time

It's totally fair to give it a go, but I've already given it mine. I know it does have its fans. But there's a reason that the clamouring to have this game ported over to North America was as timid as it was, in my opinion.

edit: Or at least wasn't as consistent as it was after release.

So unless they are going to make this the actual handheld device they release new pokemon games for I would rather just buy a new 3ds.

Won't know for sure until their reveal announcement in a couple of days. The exact extent of where they want this system to go will be evident. But with the rumour that they won't be killing their handheld line of systems for this thing (which they probably shouldn't), it will be highly unlikely that the pokemon series on the whole will be moved to the Switch.

What they could do, and what they really should do if they like money, is remake the Red/Blue series one more time for this thing. With Pokemon Go being as popular as it is, in large part because of how it tickled a very particular nostalgic cord, it would be printing money to make another game with those 150 pokemon in those same familiar cities with an insane graphical upgrade.

even more price leaks pretty much confirming all the earlier price leaks: it'll be 249.99 USD, so about $950 CDN

lots of rumours that Mother 3 (Earthbound 2) will be released as a VC game for Switch as well.

I really don't like that game though. There's a fan made translation online for it. Was hard to get into. And Earthbound is possibly my favourite game on the SNES.

  9. Also, TNA is officially owned by The Canadian company that runs the Fight Network, and Dixie Carter is no longer on the board.

Should make the new tapings and this Thursday's episode a little more interesting. Will be interesting as well to see if they continue to base their tapings out of Universal in Orlando, or if they move it to somewhere in Canada. Would be a nice way to inject a new atmosphere into their show.

    Either way I can't wait.

    I ain't even mad Omega loss. \_(ツ)_/¯

That main event was the best match I've seen in a long, long, long time.

Going in I didn't mind too much if Okada had won, because he is also amazing. But as the match went on I wanted Omega to win more and more to the point that every little tease towards a finish at the end had my heart stopping. Then Okada won, and I went back to not minding again, because I'd seen a match that delivered in every respect that a wrestling match possibly could. It was too great to care about who won what.

  11. Raw was pretty good... for like the first 3 matches. They expended all of their top 5 talents on them though. Then it began to drag. The Sami Zayn match with Stroman was a great bit of storytelling, but anything that involves Zayn typically is.

I was pretty out of it by the time that Reigns match swung around though, and then I had to sit through a Reigns match. That ending segment of the show was pretty $&!#, and nonsensical as hell to match. It was overbooked to literally zero end.

AKA: The Best Show Ever Made

It obviously doesn't hit the same notes, but I think it makes for the best comparison because it writes characters, and not caricatures. It has its comedy, but then it sobers up for moments where everything all of a sudden feels very real. They have problems and situations that amount to more than being boiled down to moments to pause and make a canned studio audience go "Awwww....", like in The Big Bang Theory, or any such similar show that's full of awful people.

Particularly so as the show has progressed. The last 2 episodes (12 and 13), were specifically made to make you feel a bit emotional. It made me jump from a position about this show being underrated, to one of the show just being outright great.

How come the commercials / trailers CBC shows us suck so bad?

Their trailers make me NOT want to watch the show.

I dunno. I can't say the trailers don't accurately depict the show as being one about observational cultural humour, because that's a given with the premise. It does it very well though, on top of other things. It starts off awkward, and not every episode is a hit or anything, but there's a lot under the surface of the show, which is why it picks up as it does.

  13. I think Kim's Convenience on CBC is low key one of the better comedies on TV right now. It's not always clever or anything, but it's funny, very human, and handles its emotional elements with a certain tact that makes me feel feels.

It's not a direct comparison or anything, but I think the kind of person who would take the most joy from watching it would be someone who enjoys something like Last Man on Earth. Different formula, similar results.

    Rouge One

    6/10

The last 40 minutes and Vader saved this.

I think it got more exciting towards the end, but I don't know that the last 40 minutes saved the movie for me personally. If anything I could say it reminded me just how little I cared about 95% of the characters (The 5% was Jin).

  15. Star Wars Rouge One - 5/10

Very generic and passionless. Seems like Disney just copied and pasted the Marvel formula and put a star wars coat of paint over it.

The characters were quite poor. One exception, really the only one I can think of, was the female lead Gin ("Jyn", according to google), who was built up pretty well for what the movie had going for it. Basic motivation, and decent character progression. They had their bases covered with her. On the other hand, Kassian is maybe one of the worst on screen characters I've ever seen. Horribly written, and possibly even worse casted. It was like if someone tried to rip off Han Solo, but had zero idea how to translate that charisma. He was a charisma vacuum. I think this is the second Star Wars movie of two now that couldn't make its male lead interesting, but this guy blows Finn out of the water when it comes to his level of nothingness.

I'm heavily biased against prequels in general, and while this was superior to that horrible Lucas trilogy from a decade or so ago in every perceivable metric, it was still utterly pointless. Part of it had the feeling that concurrent spin-offs do, where they have an inferiority complex and have to wave a giant flag saying, "Hey while that awesome thing you liked was going on, here was this other cool story!". Because it's never a cool story. This was not a cool story.

I don't want to sound like I was hating too much on the movie, because it was competent. It even picked up a bit towards the end, but it never really progressed past being a cash in with nothing to say, and nothing to add. I could have more to say about the movie, but all I'll do is just reiterate just how awful Kassian was. God he sucked, lol.
