  1. Your correct! It is the Canucks money to do what they deem right! It's also Edler's right as a UFA to sign whatever contract he's able to sign, and do what he feels is right.
  2. You say it would be selfish of Edler to sign somewhere else without trade clauses. Why then, would it not be selfish of the Canucks to ask him to sign for below market value, or replace him with someone else and include a NTC?
  3. I never said poor Alex. I am aware of how much money Edler has made. I was merely pointing out your hypocrisy. I can see this is pointless. BTW, I think Edler is still likely to sign here, even if he does test free agency. Probably taking a page out of Markus Naslunds negotiating book.
  4. I appreciate where you're coming from, and I don't fully disagree with you. I'm going to assume, however, that your line of work would allows you to work until old age, or at least well into your 50's. Edler is likely negotiating his last contract. Unless he is hiding his talents as an amazing, rockstar, musician, there is no job out there for him that will ever bring him the fame and fortune, let alone the thrill of playing professional sports. He has every right to test free agency, just like Jim Benning has every right to let him walk unless he signs for under market value. Based on your assessment, one could argue that Benning is also being greedy, by asking Edler to leave MILLIONS of dollars and years of term on the table, just because Edler loves this city. In this scenario, who is taking advantage of who?
  5. With today’s moves, Edler is arguably the top available defenseman come July 1. His stock is rising, and he is using his leverage to get the best deal he can. You can call it selfish if you like, but if you take of your Canuck colour glasses, it is just smart business.
  6. If Edler makes it to the open market, you won’t be far off.
  7. It will be interesting to hear the terms on this one. Always liked Eberle. Loved that the Coilers got fleeced on that trade too! EDIT: 5.5 seems fair. Will likely be an overpayment for the last 5 years, but he was going to get paid somewhere.
  8. Well, at least I can spend my money on something other than a Canucks jersey this year.
  9. Quick Google search results are in - Yes, he did say that, kind of.... https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/31-thoughts-podcast-note-10-pending-nhl-ufas/
  10. Personally, I hope he resigns here. I think he's been one of the best Dmen we've had on this team, and I don't think there is anyone in the organization ready to fill his minutes. However, I understand the situation with the Seattle expansion, and the term of his contract being an issue. Hope it works out well for both the Canucks, and Edler.
  11. Perhaps. Although Friedman is a well respected bloke.
  12. Yikes because the defense was paper thin with him in the lineup. Without him, the Canucks will surely have to overpay for a UFA, or through trade. I agree that he should not be given a nmc, and if that is the hangup, then it is time to move on. It does, however, put the Canucks in a compromised position. Yikes!
  13. https://www.nhltraderumors.me/2019/06/rumor-alexander-edler-done-in-vancouver.html yikes
  14. Recchi was a Rental. Re-signed with the Pens the following season. I do understand your point though. Rentals should be used to add depth to an already solid roster.
  15. Not really interested, UNLESS, Benning is able to weaponize some of the cap space the Canucks have, and pick up one of Toronto's good, young wingers. Especially if Toronto agrees to take Eriksson, and either bury him, or buy him out. A guy can dream ;P
  16. The best thing about the Eriksson signing for the Canucks is that is was not a Lucic signing. No need to double down on a mistake.
  17. You're right. And in this case, I think it would be a bad choice for the Canucks to commit long term. Best to pass.
  18. I really wanted him to work out, but he just isn’t good enough.
  19. Brutal. All the money in the world, and he barely survived a strange sinus infection. Glad he made it through.
