Hey Anthony - I know this is from a few pages back in the thread but I don't think this is the worst stretch of hockey this fan base has endured. It's the second worst. The run from 1976 to 1990 was brutal with 1983 thru 1988 being the absolute bottom of the barrel. Never above .500, made the playoffs solely becuase of only 5 teams in the devision, no top tier prospects, no players above 100 points, no players with 50 goals, no top draft picks or prospects, no farm team, no world class players, and constant turnover in the head office. The team was the laughingstock of the league. The Benning era and the (hopeful) recovery from that era has been terrible but no where near as bad as the 80's.

I really don't like the way LA plays and I want misery for other Canadian fanbases. Is there a way to arrange it so that both teams lose?

This a truly bizarre trade! Jeannot is a very unique player, especially in the league today but gadzooks…that is an absolutely over the top return.

I think you WANT his body to break down because I don’t see another way of moving on from his contract. I believe the team needs OEL to play terribly over the next two seasons, help push them down in the standings, and get a better draft position. The wear and tear on his body causes his knees to give out in the 24/25 season, he goes on LTIR or early retirement and the Canucks then use his 7M cap hit for other players that fit with the team’s progress! JT Miller is a great player but his age doesn’t fit where the Canucks are. If a trade for some good young players/good drafts picks could be made it helps the team be much better 3 or 4 years from now. The current lineup is extremely average, very poorly constructed and needs much, much more quality from top to bottom.

Where are all the people screaming for a rebuild? If you want to build a great team you kind of have to stink for 2 or 3 years, draft well and get lucky with a few good trades. I think Demko is a fantastic goaltender and he's a rare commodity... but... he is WAY too good to allow a rebuild/retool/reboot/retread/restart/revamp/rewhatever. As long as Demko plays well for the Canucks it prevents the neccesary bottoming out. Trading both Horvat and Demko would be a 5D chess, elite level stealth tank.

Awesome topic!!! Here's my list: 1. Brashear - not particularly likeable but was the best fighter in a Canucks uniform 2. Rypien - best pure fighting skills but not a heavyweight 3. Fraser - didn't start them often but almost always finished them, superb puncher 4. Odjick - best enforcer in Canucks history, hands down, not debatable 5. Kurtenbach - not on the list but was an unbelievable fighter Honourable mentions go to: Glenn Cochrane - big, mean and nasty...but let off the gas a bit with the Canucks Craig Coxe - Coxe vs Probert x2 is enough said Tim Hunter - sneaky and entertaining Scott Walker - YouTube Walker vs. Keane. Had many superb battles Darren Langdon - terrific fighter who sadly played only ~45 games for the Canucks

The top two are very, very close but I have to go with the following: 1. Vigneault 2. Quinn 3. Neilson 4. Crawford 5. Green The top five are good coaches, followed by... 11 raging dumpster fires.

This is the equivalent to a player interview that goes like this: "They have a good team over there, you have to give them a lot of credit. We just have to take it one shift at a time, get pucks in deep, pucks on net, work hard and trust the process." What is Keefe going to say? "Vesey was pretty average and we have a lot of guys on the roster that can achieve what he did which is basically nothing. He started on the 2nd line, worked his way on to the waiver wire and then right off the team." Vesey will not move the needle and unfortunately the Canucks have way too many dudes that don't add anything. Bringing in another "dude" will not change team results. At least he is cheap and is not signed long term This team needs top players to compliment the quality of Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat, Miller, Hughes and Demko. Schmidt and Hoglander are a great start. I really hope Podkolzin and Rathbone can add to that mix.

There should be zero optimism about this player. He has no upside. With that said, there should also be zero negativity. He has no downside. Be real people - the needle will not move with Jimmy Vesey. He will provide neither a positive nor a negative impact to the Canucks roster. The only real benefit to this move is if the Canucks can move out an expensive bottom 12 player they have an inexpensive bottom 12 player that can be thrown out there as a warm body.

Do you think Subban has enough potential? I'd love to see it happen - his style of play is super entertaining. IMO his best D pairing would be a guy like Gudbranson who would hang back and let him take risks. Stecher does have a more rounded game and would work well with Hutton. Only concern is physical play.

Agreed. Subban is a really likeable player but i don't think he has enough to make it to the next level as a d-man. Stecher may not either but I believe he is farther along than Subban. The idea of Subban on the wing is a really interesting one...

I really like the way Stecher plays and hope that he can make a difference at the next level. There is a big step from Youngstars to main camp, from main camp to preseason, a huge jump to regular season, and then a massive leap to NHL playoffs. One step at a time for him: if he can figure it out at each progressively more challenging level the Canucks could have a real beauty on their hands! I'm pulling for him! On the other hand, I'm really cool on Larsen. I honestly can't see him making a difference or even a dent in the NHL this year. He was bad with the Soilers a couple years back and I'm not convinced his KHL experience is worth much... The battle between him and Larsen at camp will be great.
