  1. Such a weird ending to that game. I've been cheering for the Rangers because I really wanted to see AV have success, I won't lie, so I cheered when Brassard scored. It was confusing to see the play go on afterwards, but then Pouliot got another one anyway. But just imagine if it had been Pittsburgh that scored a goal right after the missed Brassard goal, that would be nuts.
  2. If they end up replacing AV with Torts, and Gillis with Jay Feaster, then there is no other logical conclusion I can reach other than this being some twisted hockey version of The Producers. If they hire Feaster, they fully intend to fail.
  3. To people saying "he had to go", do you remember when they said that about Vigneault? Remember how that worked out for us? Seems the Rangers are doing just fine with the guy that was "the" problem last year.
  4. This move was made to appease the bloodthirsty masses. It's a bad hockey move.
  5. Unfortunately, that's not as much of a zinger as you were hoping for. There are 30 teams in the league, yes. They all had to deal with the cap drop and lockout, true. But not all 30 teams are exactly alike. Of course it will effect some teams more than others, that's not terribly difficult to figure out, especially since it's obviously not the only factor that contributed to this team's problem. But it was the primary problem that hamstrung Gillis from dealing with other things, like an ageing core and injuries (or trading Lou). What exactly is it that some of you think he did so badly? Or didn't do? I think you can speculate, at best, but that's all it is.
  6. I'd love to hear what moves you would have made this year when the cap dropped. I'd love to hear what moves you would have made last year during the CBA uncertainty and lockout shortened season. I'm sure it's easier to just sit back and blame Gillis, without really having to understand why, but it's typical mass mentality out looking for blood because they're frustrated. There's nothing smart about it, purely reactionary. I certainly don't recall "fire Gillis" chants in December.
  7. The ONLY reasonable explanation? So you would simply disregard the injuries this team has suffered, the fact that the cap went down this year, and the fact that there was a lockout and CBA uncertainty last year. I'm sure none of those things effected what Gillis was able to do. Add some bad timing, due to our core ageing, and you've got the 2013/14 Canucks. And despite all of that, we actually have some really decent prospects coming down the pipeline. I swear, some of you really struggle at taking in the larger picture, everything is so emotionally-based, rather than taking some time to actually consider the details and how they interact.
  8. First of all, did you really go with the "people like you" routine? I'll let that go because I'm actually more concerned about your reading comprehension. Eye-rolling gifs are no substitute, my friend. Never once, anywhere, ever, have I said that Tortorella is the sole cause of our problems. That's not even something I've inferred. I don't think he's the right fit for our team, but you can look through my post history and clearly see that I've been discussing the many, many issues for this poor season in a lot of my comments. The cap decrease this year, the lockout and shortened season last year, and the injuries are all extremely significant. Only a simpleton would ignore those factors. Nobody to replace Kesler's minutes? Funny how we did just fine with that in previous years. No one to replace the Sedin's minutes? Yeah, geez, we could never find players to go out there and not score. Good point. I love the Sedins, but they're not being used in the right way. It's hurting them and it's hurting the team. That's on Torts.
  9. I'd really love to see a cross reference of all the posts from people that hated AV, with all the posts from people that are supporting Torts now. "Fire AV, he's a terrible coach." "Whoa guys, it's not Tort's fault *list of excuses*, we shouldn't blame the coach for this, that would be ridiculous!" But it's funny, I don't recall Vigneault running our top players into the ground with 25 mins/game, making the Sedins kill penalties and generally using players in the least strategic way possible, or attempting to barge into the other team's locker room during intermission. Clearly Torts just "inherited" all his current problems.
  10. Nice generalization, but not everyone. I've been against the hiring since day one, never felt he was the right fit for this group.
  11. Right, which makes complete sense when you consider that Florida traded to acquire him, and then dumped Thomas like a sack of hammers. Because clearly Thomas is so super amazing awesome. Luongo made the comment tongue in cheek. Those of you that are jumping all over him all of a sudden are a bit pathetic. Lou did amazing things for this franchise, and fans like you treat him with no respect. I don't know what the expectations are from some of you, but it's beyond ridiculous.
  12. You should post more. Well written, thoughtful, and not juvenile like many of the people with stupidly high post counts. We need more people like you around here. A voice of reason is always welcome and I absolutely agree with your sentiments.
  13. You don't think the past two seasons have had any impact on where the team is at right now? And don't say "no one has been advocating that Malkin be picked up" because it's a post I read earlier today. I'm not saying that's a common sentiment, but it is a post I bloody well read. It's ridiculous and that's exactly why I mentioned it.
  14. Now I know that Matthias is not a replacement for Kesler, but I feel that adding him has really opened up the possibility of trading Kesler while still leaving us somewhat covered at centre. That's how I'm viewing it, anyway, I think Matthias is more than just a third line replacement.
  15. "Gillis never makes a big trade." Trades Cory Schneider for the 9th overall pick. "Gillis never does anything!" Trades Luongo for Markstrom and Matthias. "Yeah, but he's probably going to stand pat now ... lazy bum." Constant trade rumours around Kesler, Edler, and even Richardson. I really don't understand the expectations of some fans. Gillis makes big moves, that's not his primary flaw. And based on some of the lousy proposals I see around here, a few of you would be happy with nothing less than something insane, like Kesler for Malkin (which I have actually seen suggested). So I guess if that's where you're at, yeah, you'll be disappointed and think our GM is terrible. But I don't think that's reality. I'm not overly happy with the current state of our team. I'm not thrilled that we just lost our franchise goalie, even though I understand why it needed to happen. But you have to look at the big picture. I've said it time and again, but here it is once more: Gillis was hamstrung by the lockout and CBA uncertainty, a shortened season last year, and a drop in the cap this year. The timing was probably worse for our team than any other, given Luongo's unhappiness (and everything that came along with that) and our team's ageing core that was in need of some extra help that simply wasn't available. Just look at how busy this trade deadline has been so far. I think it will go down as the busiest trade deadline we've seen in years. Things are opening up now that the cap is more certain and we're back to full, regular seasons. It's no coincidence that Gillis is busier than ever right now.
  16. One other thing I'd like to add to my earlier post, now that I think about it, what's in this for John Tortorella? You'd think that he'd be the last guy wanting to court controversy right now, especially if it's entirely unnecessary. Since so many people have pointed to this being "the coach's decision" I think it's important to remember that this was a big risk for Torts for very little gain. I don't even think it would have helped very much if the Canucks had won today, to be honest, Tortorella would still be taking some heat. This is a team in desperate need of some stability and I think that's been entirely undervalued in the discussions about this situation.
  17. I've seen a few people state that this is being blown out of proportion by fans and media, but I have to disagree. Tortorella, Gillis, the organization, whomever, should all have anticipated the reaction that a move like this would have. And yet, they did it anyway. That says a lot if you think about it, that they were willing to stir the pot in this way. And for what gain? I love Lack, but to say that he gave us a better chance of winning, is very much a stretch. And is it worth it for the undue stress that it is causing for the team? That extra, debatable, minuscule edge that starting Lack may have given us, versus the clear distraction that a goalie controversy continues to be for this team. It makes no sense. It's not taking any pressure off the Kesler situation, let's be real. And I'd really have to question their judgement if they made a move like this for that reason. It's still an enormous slap in the face to Luongo. It's about respect. Maybe some of you are younger and just don't understand that concept yet. It matters, and it shouldn't be undervalued. A move like this is simply not worth the damage it does to our relationship with Luongo, and it's not worth the message it sends to fans and other players. Luongo's not injured or they'd have said so. And it's not jetlag because that doesn't seem to be effecting anyone else. The organization has made no effort to try and dispel any rumblings of discontent. The only reason to do this, that makes any sense to me, is that there is a possible trade looming. No other reason makes much sense or even comes close to offsetting the negativity that this situation has caused. Time will tell for sure, but it seems like a risky game to play. Given how hard it was to mend fences last time, if they're even considering a trade at this point, they'd better follow through with it.
  18. This would have concerned me a bit if it was the only oddity so far this season. But to stack it on top of everything else, is deeply concerning. Right now we have speculation surrounding Kesler, Luongo, and Edler. Those are not the markings of a stable franchise. We all knew some changes were coming, but I had hoped that we would make this transition a little more gracefully.
  19. I get where you're coming from, but consider two things: 1) Other players that are coming back from Sochi are not sitting out. 2) Lack getting a shutout has not meant he starts again in the next game, if you look at past examples. So there's a solid enough case to feel like this is a bit of an odd move. I'm not sure there's anything to it, but who knows. Maybe, just maybe, Luongo is nursing some minor injury and that's why they ran with Price in the Olympics. That's just a total shot in the dark though, and about as valid as speculating about him being traded.
  20. Just to add to that a bit, it's a tradition because gold is such a soft metal that, according to some misinformation, you tell that it's genuine gold by biting it to see if your teeth sink in. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't this actually works and it's pretty much just symbolic to bite it.
  21. This is easily one of the stupidest posts I've ever seen on CDC, and the fact that it got so many upvotes is just bloody sad. It says a lot about the fragile mentality of some of the fans. How can you blame Vigneault being mentally fragile at all, let alone well into the back half of Tortorella's turn at the helm. So is Tort's so ineffective that he can't make a difference? Is that what you're saying? Was AV making the team "mentally fragile" when we won back-to-back President's Trophies, the Sedin's were back-to-back Art Ross winners, and we went to game seven (yeah, I get it, we didn't win that game, but anyone that chalks that up to a coaching failure is insane). Some of you need a serious reality check. This year's failures are somehow still AV's fault? Give me a freakin' break, that's about as pathetic an excuse as it gets.
