Konecny 7 points in 8 games.  That's NHL not college. lol   Cant wait for a new GM

Wow. Don't know if you could have a narrower view. Did you just get fit with new prescription blinders? lol

I think that he will be fine, but this signing could still easily look terrible when he bumps his head and misses 60+ games. Hopefully that isnt the case.

I'm sure you added a huge dose of hyperbole here as no one with any sense at all would deem a 6 year FA commitment a failure after just one injury plagued season.

    Wait ......CDC

    i take it all back.

It will be okay.  Be satisfied knowing that you don't suffer alone - we suffer with you. :( I make believe I'm a friggin stuffy to get past the horrors of our team.

This kinda feels like " jumping the shark " Alf. I don't know if you can go back once you've exposed yourself like this.  We always knew, deep down, that there was a real person behind the mask but never wanted to admit it. Don't be real. Be Alf.

What a great attitude in a young prospect.  Makes you wonder how/why some kids are like Tryamkin and some turn out like entitled brats (Drouin/Ho-Sang)?

Pretty much always the answer is parenting whether from the perspective of the qualities instilled at home, to the type of parental influence a coach or coaches have and then to the advice offered by agents and money men. These young guys don't become spoiled rotters on their own very often. But then genuine humility is a getting harder and harder to find in general within our younger generations IMHO.

Actually, I wrote about what you wrote, not about you. Made that clear, too. Don't act indignant, don't try to spin this on me because I called you out.

Your opinion was based on crap reasoning. I call crap out when I see it. You can speculate, but expect your opinion to be tested.

totally expect to be tested. Being bludgeoned at the same time is a different thing. Again, let's agree to disagree and maybe revisit this issue when unfolds a little bit. Who knows, we might both be proven wrong!

I know but it was a different league back then...  You need to skate in today's NHL to be a star.

So true. The guys who could actually skate during that era, and by that I mean accelerate, maneuver and maintain balance, stood out like a sore thumb and were such an anomaly that it seemed they were cheating somehow. I don't know how many Paul Coffee rushes I witnessed where everybody else on the ice appeared to morph into Coleco table hockey figures. That kind of disparity in skating skill is rarely seen today.

Height is only one aspect of size FYI.

Yes, I've heard that before somewhere. My best guess is that I was blinded by the inclusion of the 5'11" in the description of Baer. I'm all better now thanks.

He's fun to watch but let's not get too crazy. He needs to work on his skating before he is hailed Bossy 2.0

Ironically Bossy was never known for his skating as he was becoming Bossy 1.0 !   Agreed, though, that to be effective in today's game foot work/ acceleration needs to be addressed by most young players.

Small? 5'11" at 190 pounds. He is no smaller than most of the forwards and is bigger than the Twins.

Not sure what twins you are referring to. Sedins  top out at 6'1" as far as I know. It's agreed that Baer has taken on a more dogged approach to his game to the point that his admittedly average size is no longer an issue.

He was the second star in that game too!

This is just B-Town's way of layng out the welcome mat for when Virt hits free agency!! Truth is that he hasn't been around long enough for Bruins, their fans and broadcasters to develop any hate for him.  I'd give anything to watch Jake charge around  the old Boston Garden though. It seemed like those Bruin teams of the 70's and 80's (90's, 2000's etc) could run us out of the rink at will or at least spend every game trying to do so and our Canucks often did not have an answer.

Dude, you sound idiotic. Sorry, but your mentality is pathetic. For one, you have no idea what's happened and your opinion is based purely on speculation. Many said similar things about Baer before he got here, and now he's scoring consistently for us.

How do you know it isn't a similar situation? Maybe it has more to do with personalities than it does the kid's "ego", which, despite your denouncement of, is an extremely valuable part of any performance.

It's possible he's a bust, yeah. I don't really even know much about him aside from the odd highlight package and starlings, but I do know the Canucks don't have the assets to pull off a high caliber trade like this and remain well stocked, prospects-wise.

I think you should consider more than your own beliefs about "humility" and whatever else you believe in before you start criticizing other humans and making accusations about them. See, I'm legitimized by having read what you've written. You're not because you have no clue.

Its great how you are able to pass judgenment so effectively about who I am and what I beleive with so little to go on. It's a skill I haven't learned yet but this is a good lesson. Thanks for your opinions, by the way, about young Mr. Drouin. I'm not offended by them in any way but I'm confussed as to why I'm not allowed to speculate and make a judgement, albeit passing, about what I observe?

We don't agree on this subject. It would be nice if it could be left at that and save the vitriolic tone for somethig that really matters.

ELITE SKILL, trumps off ice troubles - see P. Kane.  Plus, this kid was recovering from a concussion before.  Look how long it's taken Daniel to play on top of his game since his concussion.  This kid could just be feeling right again, and could be a SUPER STEAL.

Yes Yes Yes  but P Kane, from all I have heard, is a great soldier and buys into the Chicago way of doing things. His woes are all off ice. I don't know if Drouin has off ice issues. To me this is all "on" ice with him as his seeingly massive ego has him at odds with coaches and management when, at his age, he shouldn't even have an ego. I'm thinking alot of "yes sirs" and  "no sirs" and a dose of genuine humility would serve him well. Regardless of how highly this kid thinks of himself this was not the way to go about getting what he wanted (and his agent has to shoulder some of the blame as well).

 I know Drouin looks like a softy, both on the ice and character off the ice too.  However I look at him telling TBay to stick it as a positive.  He believes in himself and will stand up for himself, even under negative scrutiny.  Yes he's small, and offers nothing if not generating offence, but his skill is elite.

Having a healthy ego and a degree of confidence is admirable. Believing that your personal, immediate needs are above that of an organization\authority figure\parent is a sign of immaturity and selfishness. We don't need this type of young man.

By consensus it is agreed that young Jake is a 19 year old bust.

Putting my tin foil hat back on I can only suspect that Jake took one for the team. Yes, Benning is quietly calling the other 17-18 Team Canada players agents, who Jake led down the path of mediocrity. I am sure JB can now cherry pick through the ruins of this effort and snag a few projects for the prospect cage.

We of the 'tanker' persuasion saw this gambit coming way back in October. We all know Jake has a poor hockey IQ and would certainly fall into line with any conspiracy that might make the Canucks fail, I mean succeed.

The twisted logic of this post is the most reasonable take yet and should by all rights be the final say in this endless debate. Here's hoping (against hope).

  15. No doubt the same posters who crowned Cody Hodgson our next impact player are the same ones roasting Jake today (and for the last 3 months). Must be exhausting and a heavy burden indeed as the only observers who are always right and then having to pass this knowledge on to the rest of us. I hope your clairvoyance serves you well in your day jobs.
