Be careful Soucy played sheltered mins on 3rd pairing? We had guy name Gudbranson ? If you have to shelter Soucy we have guys that can play #6 spot --( Juulsen -need to sign.). ( Burroughs  still not signed) - WolaninLD , Johansson RD - Brisebois LD

Cole was playing over 19 mins on a very good team last year?

Soucy playing,, 3rd pairing sheltered .. Sign Soucy 4 yrs X 4 million? Gudbranson--- Big troubles..

Sign Cole way better player for 2 yrs max deal.. Can play #4 and PK. 2.2 X 2 yrs max...

This is nothing to do with ex player they had 5 yrs ago.. Fact Cole is much better at 34 then Soucy..

  3. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the New Jersey Devils have granted Miles Wood permission to speak with other teams around the league about trading for his rights prior to July 1st. This likely signals the end for Wood in New Jersey as he will be an unrestricted free agent in a few days, and it doesn’t appear as though the Devils see him in their future.

New Jersey drafted Wood in the fourth round of the 2013 NHL entry draft and after a season in the NCAA and a cup of coffee in the AHL, Wood found himself as a regular in the Devils lineup. Expectations were high for the Buffalo native after he finished his second full season in the NHL with 19 goals and 13 assists.

It looked as though Wood was well on his way to becoming a solid middle-six forward who could contribute 20 goals a season. However, Wood was never able to duplicate those offensive numbers failing to reach the 30-point mark in each of the next five seasons. He also struggled to elevate his linemates and was frequently guilty of turning the puck over at inopportune times.

Last year Wood posted 13 goals and 14 assists in 76 games and did a much better job driving play and was much more engaged physically, however, he continued to turn the puck over regularly.

Wood will generate some interest on the open market, but it would be surprising to see a team give up an asset to acquire his rights given that free agency is just a few days away and there are plenty of available options that can offer a similar skill set to him. That being said, the market for free agents is weak and teams looking for bottom-six help could do worse than Wood.

This is the type of winger Canucks need but there are other priorities needed a head of more wingers..

Stay at home D man like Ian Cole 2.2 million, #3 centre 1.5--2 million so if Canucks get lucky to sign 2 players under 4 million that would be great..

Not a lot of cap space-- 6.4 million - -- pre season LTIR Candidates ?

Cap space with LTIR Candidates 12,194 million

Prefer that Alvin sign a player like Soucy to a max four year deal than going with a Pittsburgh retread in Ian Cole.

  5. Another player that is likely headed to the free agency market is defenseman Carson Soucy. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff is reporting that the Seattle Kraken and the hulking defenseman had discussions about an extension, but it appears that at this point he is going to unrestricted free agency and will be in a new uniform next season.

This past season Soucy finished last in Kraken defensemen for points and ice time, however, he will still be a significant loss on the backend for Seattle. Together with offensive defenseman Justin Schultz, they formed one of the top third-defensive pairings in the NHL last season, which is what will ultimately price Soucy out of Seattle.

Soucy had three goals and 13 assists in 78 games last season and while he will never an offensive defenseman, he may be paid like one given that he’ll be entering a very weak free-agent market for defensemen. Soucy can bring a lot to a new team, he can play on both sides of the ice, has a bomb from the point, and is a good penalty killer. The one caveat to Soucy’s recent success is that he’s played sheltered minutes for the past two seasons. If a team pays him like a second-pairing defenseman, they might be very disappointed with the results.

Hope Canucks are careful in not signing older players to long term..My Fav out of older D men are as follow.

    1. Ian Cole 34 -6'1 - 215 -- TOI -- 19:50 - 2yrs - 2.2 million

    2. Justin Holl 31--RD -6'4 -210  -               2 yrs  X1.8 million

    3. Luke Schenn  33 RD 6'4 -220-               2 yrs X 1.5 million

    4. Carson Soucy - 28 -LD. 6'5 215             2 yrs X 1.5 million

JT Miller to Colorado for picks 27, 31, 37 and Manson?

Dream scenario. Load up on this draft. Even the later 1st is filled with guys who could go top 15 in weaker drafts.

4 picks in the top 40. 8 in the top 120. Our prospect board would be refilled with high end players. We get a RHD (cap dump) to

    play with Hughes.

Sign Ryan O Reilly as our 2C for the next 2-3 years until one of our prospects are ready.

Yeah Colorado just traded for there #2 C Johansen 6'3 - 220 lbs-- cost for Colorado 4 million X 2 yrs

Really like his toughness and willing to protect teammates .. I think he would fit great in Vancouver..

Sure hope Allvin can work something up..We talk about buying a player at a low.,,

    Kostin 6'3 - 210 lbs -- Aman 6'1 -- Joshua 6'3 -205   now two big tough wingers play with a edge...

Lets make trade for Kostin trade the 5th..Oilers are talking buyout...

Woo will become waivers-eligible this offseason.  There's a risk (albeit uncertain) that he might get plucked off waivers if we try to send him there during the pre-season/to start the season, so no guarantees that he'll make it to Abby.

Rathbone will have  clear waivers to be sent down this season?

I don't think Rathbone fit Canucks plans??

    To CBJ

    JTM

    11OA

    To VAN

    3OA

    1 of Rosolovic/Peeke

    UFA:

    Sign ROR for 6 // 6.5 million x 2/3years?

    *****

JK has stated he has been looking for a young C, BUT assuming he is serious about making some noise next season/getting the most out of JG etc. that’s what the proposal hinges on.  JK has said acquiring C’s is hard. They could still draft a really good player at 11OA that they can slowly develop while JT steps in right away and contributes big time. Their PP w JT/JG/Laine/Werenski could be scary good. With the cap going up next season CBJ can comfortably re-sign Sillinger etc or make trades.

PA gets Carlsson that he covets, and Canucks overpay ROR for a couple of years to help fill the void, perhaps add that experience/mentorship he has in spades.  1 of Rosolovic/Peeke fill a hole and manage cap. Love JT but this sets the team up long term down the middle w less risk.

Never gonna happen but that’s my wild draft day scenario.

This is the kind of trade that make sense.. If we trade Miller we have to replace #2 C right away..

ROR yes even 6.5 million X 4 yrs solid #2 guy. We save 1.5 million and we get a young RD Peeke 6'3 - 25 -#4 guy with very good contract under 2.5 million..

I think the Canucks should go with a defenseman. Either William Willander or Dmitri Simashev I would be happy with. Personally, I am not sold on ASP and Reinbacher will be most likely gone before our pick.

I think Vancouver will have 3 or 4 very good players to pick from at #11.

    Willander 6'1 RD -- -Danielson 6'1 C. WHL-- Simashev - Moore 5'11 C-- Wood 6'3. W/C.

only way i would be interested in staal is if we can move a boeser or garland before july 1st.. likely won't happen so easy pass he'll prolly look for a short term but upwards of 6mil

I agree pass and try and trade for # 3 C-- Don't want 3rd line C making over 2.5 million...

    As the title says....

Canucks trade Beauvillier and Rathbone to Montreal for Edmundson.

Pair Edmundson with Hronek if they mesh they both get new contracts to stay together. Allows the Canucks to use more of this cap space to sign a RHD to play with Hughes like a Scott Mayfield/Dumba/Gudas/Schenn OR more $ for a true #3C NOT Barbashev!

I like this type of deal except Montreal wants cap space?

Edmundson 29 -6'5 tough, gritty #4 guy. -1yr X 3.5 UFA next summer will demand big Dollars?

Edmundson will be looking for 4.5 million next season..

Only 1 year left and is a UFA. Going to need an extension and talks out of Calgary are some players don't plan to resign. Miller gives them a top 6 center back with term locked in.

I'd only say yes on Vancouver's end if they are able to speak with Lindholm and work out an extension first. I also would only want to pay him around $7 million or less.

To be honest likely not the right target for Vancouver anyway. Would prefer someone a couple years younger at least.

Lindholm 28 will get similar contract Horvat got between 7.8 -- 8.3 million X 7 yrs..Very good centre and will be hard to replace in Calgary. No Vancouver don't need Lindholm..

Canucks need another top 4 D man and 3rd line centre

    1. Petey 2. Miller 3____  4. Aman

No thanks not at $4mil a year for a 3rd pairing LHD.
Maybe at 2.5 and even that is rich. We can't keep paying 4th liners and 3rd pairing like we used to for beagle/roussel etc

There in demand, teams are looking for big guys like Soucy 6'5 28 - 3.5 million for sure.

    Graves 6'5 maybe 4.8 million

Thats the price you have to pay unless you develop a young player in system..

^^ seems to me his skating coordination is getting as strong as his strength ..

im expecting to see his power and speed keep him with the main club and bump another player.

Would like to see big Podkolzin on 3rd line..

    1.Mikheyev -  Petey -- Kuzmenko

    2. Di Giuseppe  - Miller - Boeser    ---- Garland on 2nd line if not traded

    3. Beauvillier  _____ -- Podkolzin ---- Hoglander for sure top 9...Speed and natural skill only 22...sign 1yr X 900,000 1 way

    4. Joshua -- Aman -- Studnicka--- Could try and sign big gritty winger that can skate like Joshua, hard to find under 1.1 million.
