  1. I think those are the only 2 times he has been hit.

But randleman is not a good MMA guy. He only works on his wrestling everything else is whatever. He got footlocked by Shogun quite easily. I think he got rocked by rampage as well.

Fujita is a speciman. They say this skull is thick.. like scientifically they said his skull is super thick and they had trouble doing tests.

That would have been funny to be the doctor that day.

Fujita: So what do the tests say doc? Hows my brain do i have a concussion?

Doctor: Im not sure, we were unable to locate your brain.

  2. In all the years I have watched Fedor fight. I don't think I have ever seen him miss a punch. The second time he fought Coleman ( Coleman was over the hill) But it looked like he was just tapping him. At the end of the fight when you saw Colemans face it looked like hamburger.

and Coleman had the brilliant idea of bringing his little daughters to the match...

    2zhm5ic.jpg

Although i would say Fedor's punching is accurate and powerful he throws them oddly and leaves himself open just like Wanderlei. He throws these looping punches and if someone jabbed him there or let one go like Rampage did against Wanderlei it could hurt him.. and dare i say.. *gasp* knock him out..

  3. Looking forward to the Fedor/arlovski fight on the 24th.

some big works coming out of freddie roach, arlovski's boxing trainer and someone regarded as one of the best boxing trainers in the world as he just coaches manny pacquia (sp?) and oscar de la hoya.

He said Fedor has weak technique and that if it stays standing Arlovski will kill him. I was like :o

  4. That is true, but the issue is still that they would hold the belts from the division below, and none would give up that belt without a fight. If BJ beats GSP, then GSP could just move up and try to contend for the MW belt, though I imagine he'd want another shot at Penn at some point. Then they would have to hope that GSP could beat Silva so that Silva could be left to fight only in LHW. It doesn't solve the problem that Penn would still be holding belts for two divisions though, particularly as without GSP in WW, there would be few who could challenge Penn in either weight class. I don't think KenFlo is in his league really.

It causes a huge problem though. If BJ beats GSP, the logical thing would be for BJ to fight Anderson. If you cant beat a LW there is no reason for you to fight for the MW belt.

If BJ got all 3 belts  the divisons would go out of whack. If Silva loses to GSP then Silva should not move to LHW because he couldnt get it done at MW.

I think thats the problem with this whole planning. Loser champions won't move up. They will want to stay there to get their belt back. For BJ this match means nothing hes the only one that wins in this situation. IF he loses. oh well hes a lw. If he wins he does want he wants.

In my opinion i think its more exciting to see a champion move up to another division than to see losers like Rich Franklin. Its nice but not that exciting.

  5. That may all be true, though realistically, aside from the two heaviest divisions, there really isn't much competition as the three light divisions are all clearly dominated by the current champions. Hence having them fight each other.

However, Dana undoubtedly knows how well a card with Silva vs Evans would sell as a PPV. Silva may not deserve it, and he may lose, but it'd be a good draw. Lesnar didn't really earn his title shot either but UFC is in the business of making money, and they know that people want to see big names in big fights.

And I don't think it'd be a matter of Silva moving down to fight St Pierre, I think St Pierre would move up to challenge Silva for the middleweight belt. Though if he beats Penn I think he then has to fight Alves, no?

Anyways, in the LHW div, I'd love to see Silva in the mix, and would hope to see him fight the winner of a Rampage-Rashad fight. Though that division is just so strong, I'm curious to see how far Shogun can go too, maybe a rematch against Rampage. I think Chuck is pretty much finished though, same with Wanderlei.

Compared to that division, the others are kind of boring. Save I guess the HW division, would really like to see Mir vs Lesnar 2. There's no one in LW who can take down Penn, and Penn's the only one who has a realistic chance against GSP at welter, though Alves is an intriguing opponent.

Dana has actually screwed up the WW and LW division by giving BJ a title shot. It is actually bad for business in the long run. If BJ wins then instead of there being a title fight every 4 months like it is at the moment there will be a title shot only once a year basically. BJ will have to fight at LW then wait 4-6 months and fight at WW. All the while LW, and WW contenders will wait way too long.

If GSP beats Anderson this will screw up WW and MW.

Its too much to risk for just 1 good fight. Brock Lesnar is the exception because he gets super huge ratings from a group that they cant get on their own. the WWE fanbase. Thats why Brock is paid more than pretty much everyone in the UFC. Him as a rookie is getting paid like $250 000 plus ppv revenue while other guys who get their first HW fight earn like $7000. Plus with Brock winning it doesnt screw up another division in the process.

The reasonable thing to do is for BJ to move to WW and fight. GSP to move to middleweight and Anderson to move to LHW. You can make more exciting fights since the current competition has been exhausted.

  6. Maybe he hasn't, but I doubt a title-holder goes up a weight class and is content to fight anyone but the champion. Consider that Penn is coming up to fight GSP, and that St Pierre if victorious will move up to fight Spider. As the consensus pound for pound best in UFC, and undefeated in UFC competition, (plus with a self-imposed ticking clock until retirement) I really don't see Silva in anything but the top marquee matchup against whoever has the LHW belt. IMO that division is the most interesting in UFC right now, but I think if Silva gets into it, it'll be for a title shot.

However, I'd like to see Rampage get a shot at getting that belt back too. Rashad vs Rampage would be very interesting.

The BJ Penn/ GSP fight is a scam for GSP. BJ has done nothing at WW to prove he is a contender.

This whole thing is created because Dana White forced BJ Penn to move to LHW after the loss so he can build a lightheavyweight division and feature him on TUF to get viewers. The division was dissolved a few years before and lacked talent. Now it has some talent but not enough to challenge BJ other than florian.

The reality is that Anderson Silva has run out of opponents in the middleweight division basically after Dan Henderson and so he can either move up to LHW to face some guys his own size or move down to fight GSP. He should realistically fight in LHW as the guys are his size and he wont have a reach advantage anymore. He chooses to fight guys with a smaller reach.

So basically BJ penn has no one to fight.

Anderson Silva has no one to fight + his ppv buys do horrible because no one wants to see take on cans for the most part. He is fighting another can in April in montreal.

GSP is offered the fight and he will take it because he gets PPV revenue and it will make him rich.

As for Anderson though he needs to fight at LHW now because the middleweight division is weak. I doubt he could beat chuck liddell, shogun, rampage, arona etc. He has to stop fighting cans.

  7. Well yesterday in Japan was the Dynamite 2008 New Years Fight. Every year in Japan they put together a great card to kick off the new year.

The fights took place at like 1am our time but were not televised in North America. However it has been uploaded on MMATKO.com for people to see. Ill provide the links so you can watch some wicked fights.

Badr Hari vs Alistair Overeem. Badr is one of the dominant K-1 (kickboxing) fighters at the moment. He is thought to be the next generation of fighters. Allistair is a talented fighter who was destroying Mirko Cro Cop a few months ago but then kicked him in the balls and the fight was over. I have to say though... I think Allistar is taking steroids because he got too big too damn fast. Here is the fight under K-1 rules.

    http://www.mmatko.com/badr-hari-vs-alistai...-dynamite-2008/

Mirko Cro Cop vs hong man choi. Oh the japanese and their freak show fights. Here is MMA sensation Mirko Cro Cop who was dominant in Pride FC against 7'2" 330 pound Hong man choi, who is a K-1 fighter.

    http://www.mmatko.com/hong-man-choi-vs-mir...-dynamite-2008/

Japanese Lightweight superstar Shinya Aoki who has great ground skills against Eddie Alvarez. A dominant lightweight fighter that would have won the last tournament but then had to bow out because of an injury in finals.

    http://www.mmatko.com/eddie-alvarez-vs-shi...-dynamite-2008/

Middleweight goliath Melvin Manhoef against a heavyweight Mark Hunt. I thought this fight would be one sided but it is a damn interesting fight.

    http://www.mmatko.com/mark-hunt-vs-melvin-...-dynamite-2008/

K-1 world champion Ssammy Scheilt vs American Mighty Mo.

    http://www.mmatko.com/semmy-schilt-vs-sial...-dynamite-2008/

Super massive dude Bob Sapp 6'4 375 against some dude named Kinniku Mantaro? no clue who that guy is but he comes in dressed as some Japanese comic character or something.

  8. Remember I can burn which ever ones you wanna watch. Unfortunately for 58 doesn't work and the earlier ones don't have the post-fight interviews. Lemme know!

thanks for the offer but do you have the dvd bonus footage? I think you only have dvd rips of the original ppv broadcast no?

on the UFC dvds most have bonus footage. Stuff behind the scenes that was never shown on the original broadcast. Like footage you would only find as a special feature on the official dvd. Like this from ufc 58:

  9. I disagree. Nog has been "meh" at best.

Vs Herring, he almost had his donkey knocked out. Same deal vs Slyvia. He didn't look good in either of those fights, despite winning both.

Yeah i wonder if all those concussions are adding up.

    on another note

does anyone know where you can rent UFC dvds? I wanted to watch some bonus footage but Blockbuster and Rogers said they dont carry them at the moment.

  10. Nog looked old, but he is only 32. Still, that was UGLY!!! Great job by Mir, but I can't see him beating Lesnar a second time.Wow!!! Rampage's knock out was sick!! Loved it! Served Wandy right for beind so damn cocky leading up to the fight.

And Kongo is the man. I can't wait til he gets actual competition again.

nog is 32 but damn after so many fights he looks like hes pushing 50.

that was an awesome card! best one of the whole year! :D

i was rooting for rashad and he won. the planning they do at jackson submission camp is wicked. Im surprised how powerful rashad is. He is a middleweight that knocked out heavyweights and now lightheavyweight. thats crazy.

I love wanderlei but i wanted rampage to win because i want to see wanderlei drop to middleweight as he has been hinting saying the guys are too big at LHW for his size. I wanted the middleweight division to be more stacked so we dont have to always watch cans fight each other. Dennis Kang is a great addition. He will fight at the next ufc. Im loooking forward to that and hope he wins. I think he will be rusty in his first few fights getting use to the octagon.

Mir vs Nog. Well that fight didnt look pretty. I think all the KO's Nog has taken have started to catch up to him. Super nice guy and talented but he could get anything going. He wasnt moving out of punches and kept getting dropped. Everyone knew that he would fall and recover. But 3 KO punches is too much.

Kongo needs to stop ball kicking. He did it to crocop, i saw it in another fight and he did it again this fight. THE BALL KICKING MUST STOPPppppppppppppp! :) All in all it was awesome!

  11. im not sure but this is how mauro describes it in his blog.

    http://www.thefightnetwork.com/blog/post/1...ro_of_the_story

I am often asked how I got involved in Mixed Martial Arts. Due to my life long love/hate relationship with the choreographed world of ‘rasslin, I was immediately intrigued when the Ultimate Fighting Championship or “real pro-wrestling” made its pay per view debut in 1993. I still laugh when so called MMA "purists" lash out at those of us who actually see the pro-wrestling footprints all over the MMA blueprint.

In 2001, a good friend of mine, Dave Scholten, was testing the MMA waters in my native British Columbia and he invited me to this MMA tournament that was being held at BCIT (a Vancouver college). One of the guests on hand was none other than the ultra charismatic fighting legend Bas Rutten. I recognized him as the former UFC Heavyweight champion and current color commentator with PRIDE. A former co-worker at a club I used to spin at came up to me at the tournament and told me that Dave said that I should talk to him about a martial arts movie he was making that would feature none other than Mr. Rutten himself! I agreed to appear in the film ( a straight to bargain bin release) as a fight commentator (big stretch I know!). A few days after the tournament, Bas and I met at the recording studio and immediately hit it off. We had such great chemistry during our recording session that Bas asked for my contact information. He said that he would love to work with me again in the future which I heard as “get your people to call my people and let’s do lunch!”. Needless to say, I was shocked when, true to his word, Bas contacted me in the summer of 2003, letting me know that PRIDE had let play by play announcer (and my current ELITE XC broadcast partner) Stephen Quadros go and his replacement Damon “the Dawg” Perry (remember him?) was unavailable for the October debut of BUSHIDO. Pride executives asked Bas if they knew of anyone who might be able to take his place. I don’t know why but I have the sudden urge to write INSERT PUNCH LINE HERE at the end of the last sentence. With a phone call that would change my life forever, Bas punched in my digits and instructed me to send a demo tape to the PRIDE office in Los Angeles. Days after doing just that, I received an email asking me if I would like to go to Japan to announce the first BUSHIDO event.

Its possible that he was just at BCIT to do the commentating. I think he lives in abbotsford still.

  12. If you want a good laugh. Crocop punking Mauro is hilarious. I don't remember if it has swearing in it so I am not going to post it.

hah yeah ive seen that one.

have you seen the one at ufc 83 where he gets interviewed and hes super drunk

    http://www.ultimefanatic.com/modules/smart....php?itemid=117

 he starts telling everyone how hot the girls are in montreal and gives them his cell phone number on air. They bleep out the numbers because he will obviously regret it after but its funny how drunk he is.

  13. Bas Rutten was one of my favorite fighters and getting a chance to chat with him regularly was great on sherdog.

Whats interesting is that Bas Rutten came to BCIT one time. THere he met Mauro Renallo the pride commentator. Thats how he got the job. Bas thought he had a good voice and gave him his card. Bas called him up one time and was like hey we need a new commentator for Pride thought you would be a good fit.

and now since then Mauro has been on fight network, CBS elite XC, Affliction i think coming up. Pretty neat Vancouver story.

    Sherdog is a joke.

yeeeup. The most hilarious sherdog radio is when they pissed off rampage jackson. They accidentally kept referring him as the lightweight champion instead of the lightheavyweight champion. He start going "look fatty! jeff sherwood you fatso, im not a lightweight, im a damn lightheavyweight champion fatty! get that right"

youd think Jeff would react but in his boring tone goes "hmm seems rampage is pissed" He sounds like Eyore from Winnie the pooh. Dude just straight sounds like hes out of shape.

  14. lol at tickle takedown, where you guys watching the fight? I think I might hit up a restaurant

ill be watching it on tv on the edge of my seat xlhzld.gif

The best part there is everytime they delete a thread you lose the post count for that thread. I used to read the site constantly. The tickling thread sounds very familiar. Perhaps you were around during the Donny7 or Thomas (same guy. :) )times awell. He was one of the best posters ever. He created the How to troll thread. :) Lets hope tonight has some good fights. :)

hah yeah because I posted that tickle takedown strategy. Then i left and went out. I got back like 2-3 hours later to check it and it was super popular. Some people were loving it and saying it was the greatest thread they've seen in a long time on the site and wanted to try it, some people thought it was dumb and were calling for my head haha, saying this was the worst troll job ever. I guess they exaggerate both ways. Then i hit refresh 10 seconds later and the thread said "thread invalid" "banned time limit- forever"I was like ahh damn! it was turning into an epic thread. Hit like 15 pages already.

Thanks for the pm about that thread, i dont remember donny7 actually. And sadly all the threads he linked to are also deleted by sherdog. There is another dude from montreal with a baseball player avatar that is really a great poster. But most suck and have no real mma knowledge. TUFFERS as they are regarded.

Ive been watching UFC since the beginning though. Since UFC 2. I missed some in the middle though because Rogers Video stopped carrying them at the time.

Well heres too a good show today folks! 2d9xwua.gif

  15. I think I remember a thread like that about two years ago? Is that the right timing? I was Krusty McFreeze there aswell.

Yeah i think it was around that time. THat pretty amazing if you saw it though. It was up for like 2 hours only and then deleted.

I dont remember my username there because I was banned on my first post which was that tickling strategy haha.

edit: i think it was up for only 2 hours.

  16. Yeah, having the fighters post there was very fun back then. Bas Rutten was one of my favorite fighters and getting a chance to chat with him regularly was great on sherdog. Yes it does get out of hand and as I stated earlier I haven't been there in quite awhile except for the cover page to get quick info. Popularity of the site and the sport have really diminished it.

I think thats why they dont IP ban generally. They ban you forever and then just let you sign up again.

odd strategy. Instead of steering you on what you shouldnt do they let you sign up with a new name and do it again. Really horrible way to mod.

cdc is has awesome mods. they let people know even in the popular canucks section. Sherdog has like 20-30 mods or something and they still do a horrible job. I think thats what you get though when you have crazy 17 years old guys modding crazy 17 year old guys.

The mods here are fair and there are only like 3-4 of them on this site but they keep it running smoothly.

  17. Some jiu jitsu guys were thinking about trying it to see if it works haha. But then i was banned from sherdog and my thread deleted. :( You'd think the mods would have found its humorous yet a possibility.

UFC 96 has Shane Carwin vs Gabriel Gonzaga, Brandon Vera vs Mike Patt and Chuck Lidell vs Keith Jardine...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_96

I'm more excited about the Carwin and Gonzaga fight than the Chuck one

yeah sounds exciting. Im looking forward to more Carwin fights. Hes been very impressive.
